This is the first time I've ever been able to say that I'd rather have the extra hard drive space than the free content.

I still haven't finished this game.

That said, on the few occasions I played Multi it was actually pretty cool. But I'm not interested in any new maps.

The PS3 Limited Edition of this game, which also comes with DS: Extraction, is $19.99 at Sears right now. I just picked up a copy myself. It is marked at $59.99, but rings up at the $20 price. I haven't even finished the first one, but had to go ahead and get this.

Re: Dead Space 2

I borrowed this from a friend. Played through on Casual. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Great game. The first time I played it, I got video game vertigo and was considering giving it back to my friend. I'm glad I didn't. I didn't have any issues playing through the other times. The story was great as was the ambiance of the game. Really creepy in a few parts and made me jump a couple of times.

Re: Dead Space 2

This game keeps freezing up on me on my 80gb PS3... first time it froze during gameplay (level 6 or 7?) now, freezes at the neuron-net cutscene right after the Dead Space 2 title... any ideas how to fix?

Re: Dead Space 2

Just finished the game tonight....thought it was great. Just as good, if not a little better than the first.

However, I will point out that the last 2 or 3 chapters really pissed me off.

Spoiler:
The unkillable creature you had to run from really drove me nuts. At one point, I had no stasis left, at another point I had no health left.
So I would keep dying as I figured out which direction to go and how to maneuver past the baddies. Then after about 20 or 30 tries, I finally made it through chapters 14 and 15.
It's a damn good thing they give you full health for the final boss or I would have been screwed...and I would have been MAD! haha.

Did enjoy the "radio message" after the end credits and I have to admit, I thought Isaac was going to die in this one. I also thought there would be a jump scare at the end like there was for the first.

Stross taking that girl's eye was a surprise, especially when he comes after you with the eye still on the screwdriver!
Chapter 10, back on the Ishimura was a great throwback.

Looking forward to DS3!

Re: Dead Space 2

I loved the game except for the final battle. I thought it was weak compared to the rest of the game, and it seemed 'rushed', like they just threw it in there to get the game done on time.

Re: Dead Space 2

Definitely late to the party on this one but got it the other day (ended up costing me 1.58 after 25 dollar gift card and 5 dollar reward zone). I loved the first one and this one seems great so far too. The fact that the PS3 version came with Dead Space extraction is cool though I'm not sure how fun it will be to play with the analog stick since I don't have or have any interest in the Move.

Re: Dead Space 2

Extraction is way more fun with the Move controller. I got Dead Space 2 at launch and got tired of Extraction after the first level. Then I picked up the Tiger Woods 12 Move bundle over the summer and was having so much fun with the controller that I went back through my library looking for more Move enabled games. Popped in Extraction and wow! It was like a completely different game than what I remembered with the analog controller. It was actually so much better that I went and picked up the Sharpshooter to go with it. Extraction was a very pleasant surprise. But like I said, with the analog, I'm not sure if it's as enjoyable.

Re: Dead Space 2

Just finished the single player. I played DS1 but didn't really understand the plot that well. Count me as just as confused on this one. Especially with the unitologists and how they relate to the market/necromorphs.

There's some good info here about the relationship between The Marker, Unitology, and Necromorphs.

Re: Dead Space 2

Finally played played this awesome game! Loved every second of it. Play it on casual and just used the Plasma Cutter fully upgraded. I like how they basically went through a whole checklist of improvements they could fix from the previous one and they did it so well.

DS1/DS2

Isaac=boring quiet character/Isaac=Kick Ass muthafucker.
pretty same levels=Ishimura=/Different Scenery= The whole city was great, loved the Daycare.
Zero G=limited/ Zero G Freedom=liked the Space level a lot

... My favorite suit is the Security one, so fucking .... The eye scene was sick... game was way more intense... stomping Necromorphs is more brutal... seamless level progression... ELLE is a queen!

... still got more DS2 playthroughs to do at a later time. One of the best last year.

Glad they're making a part 3!

Re: Dead Space 2

In anticipation of Dead Space 3, I spent the last week torturing myself in Hard Core mode. That was some nerve racking shit. Not so much from fantastically creepy atmosphere (since I've played through this game 4 full times now), but from knowing that one little mistake could set me back 6+ hours. And, yes, that happened... many, many times. No other game could possibly punish me that much and make me want to keep playing. It really is a testament to this series' greatness.

Re: Dead Space 2

I'm a couple years late this this party, but I recently finished this (and the Severed DLC) and thought it was fantastic. Something about these games, just get sooo much right. The sound and atmosphere is just amazing. Haven't picked up DS3 yet, but I hope it isn't as "action packed" as some of the trailers and reviews made it out to be. Also really pulling for DS4 on next gen consoles!

DS3 is more of the same. It has the option to play co-op too.

I'm actually in the middle of DS3, really enjoying the game. It's not as scary as DS2 but still a lot of fun.

Re: Dead Space 2

I got this some months ago. Got DS3 too. Among every other game I wanted from the last gen. Just haven't had the time for them.

Anyway... I really like this. Not sure if I totally liked having Isaac be an actual character in comparison to the last one. I really liked how you were put into Isaac's template. This one they gave him a template. And remarkarbly it worked well for him. He's still not a badass, at least too much, in character. I really liked this one more probably cuz the addition of Elle. A very strong female character and... not romantically involved w/ the lead. So that's nice. I kept thinking if they did a DS2 movie Blunt would be awesome as Elle. She was a nice addition to it all. I'm on my second round and holy shit am I raping these necromorphs. I've got the advanced Elite suit now. I'm a monster.

Re: Dead Space 2

I liked this one as well. The last 2 chapters were really f'n tough for me. I just started DS3 a couple weeks ago and they tweaked that one quite a bit. Only 5 chapters in on that one...and not sure what I think yet.

Re: Dead Space 2

I didn't find it that hard. The regenerating necromorph put you in a very inconvenient spot though. Good thing I had a shit ton of stasis.

EDIT: Let me clarify though... I unloaded a whole damn clip and a half of the pulse rifle thinking he was one you could take down. And then I noticed why... the damn hacking. Stasis that bitch. Shoot off limbs. Run and run.

I did like the end though. I really like how they did that. I almost would have preferred it went the way I thought it would from what they were showing you at first. The callback to the DS1 was cool. And was to happy to see it done like that for the end of DS2. I was happy for Isaac if for just a moment cuz I'm guessing DS3 has more horrible shit coming to Isaac.

I don't get scared at movies. But games allow me to immerse myself into getting into a character's head for fear and etc. DS1 was a creepy bitch. This one added on to it. I think DS1 is better only because it was a bit more unique possibly. The novelty of that world isn't the same w/ DS2. I THINK DS2 is as good as a game as DS1 but.... I think DS1 edges it out a bit more because of where it had to go. Where DS2 takes you onto essentially the continuation of Isaac's shit, which isn't bad, but it is a "softer" experience because of what Isaac went through in DS1.

The deaths as always awesome. The crazy shit they do to him. Arms cut off by a door, he head cut off by a door, Torso cut off by a door. Doors seemed a lot more dangerous this time. lol. Loved being able to shoot some windows to make room w/ a these necromorphs around then try to close it. I hope DS3 lives up to it. Cuz DS1 and DS2 are pretty equal to me. DS2 is what Quantum of Solace was to Casino Royale. A direct continuation but not bad....cuz QoS wasn't a worthy followup to it.

I agree with pretty much everything Snake said. A solid addition to the series, but it didn't feel as awesome as the first.

Re: Dead Space 2

it's funny playing this on Round 3 on Zealot mode. I don't stomp much but Isaac is soooo goddamn tired w/ these damn things that just starts calling them motherfuckers when he stomps them for a while.

BTW.... Is severed worth getting, the DLC add on? It's like a little separate story with someone else.

Re: Dead Space 2

I liked Severed. If you like DS2, you will like Severed as it is more of the same. Note that it has been several years since I have played it so take that with a grain of salt.

I love the Dead Space universe so I will play or read anything I can get about it.

Re: Dead Space 2

Was Extraction any good. I like on rail shooters but I'm very picky on them cuz they are either hit or miss. With close to nothing in between of the extremes.

Re: Dead Space 2

I enjoyed Extraction to for what it was. I am not a rail shooter fan but if you like them and the DS universe, I don't see how you wouldn't get some enjoyment out of it. Of course it is a completely different way to kill the necromorphs than you are used to but that is part of the fun.

You should be able to get it cheap. I played it on the Wii way back so that was extremely different than using a standard controller. I never did try the controller version on the PS3 (though you could use their motion thingy as well).

But again, I am partial to the DS stuff. Others may have hated it but I really don't remember what the reaction for Extraction was...more like a non-reaction.
