If you don't think the single-player experience of those games would be improved were there no co-op, you're high.

For example. Just Cause 2 is 10 times the single-player game that Crackdown is, solely because they didn't have to worry about restrictions that adding extra players would bring to the experience.

I, for one, think the single-player in Borderlands was an after-thought. Never played it, but L4D seems built the same way

In one sense so looking forward to having 4-player co-op, but in another already dreading the achivements that will go with it.

Play co-op campaign as Marcus
Play co-op campaign as Dom
Play co-op campaign as Baird
Play co-op campaign as Cole

So yeah, play the campaign 4 times just for these achievements alone. WHo knows? Otherwise next April can't come soon enough, a definite 1st day buy.

Well yeah, that's my point. It depends on what the focus of those games are, and anything they add to it will take away from that focus.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

I'm with ya. I just think that GoW seems to slant towards the co-op side anyway based on my admittedly limited experience with just the first one.

It's not like ODST where you're a lone recruit unless you're joined by other lone recruits online

Apples and oranges. (Not to mention hypothetical since it doesn't even exist as an option.) Crackdown was a ton of fun solo or with others for me and the inclusion of co-op didn't compromise anything IMO.

The generality that co-op and solo play together compromises both experiences in totality and without question is a ridiculous statement.

OK....but does that inclusion of a solo play option compromise the co-op experience? I would say definitely not. (Not to mention that I still enjoy both of them in solo form.)

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

I just caught the 'Ashes to Ashes' trailer....not bad at all and two things i noticed...

First Female character

And those killer looking plants....looks like there will a be a 3-way fight. Something that reminds me of the first Half-Life for the pc. This could prove interesting in combat.

So are you arguing that Co-op has hurt the Gears of Wars games? Or... not.

Just that the single-player game would most likely be better were there no co-op and vice-versa.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

Dude face it. You just don't like Co-op or Multiplayer games.

Nintendo has proven that Social Gaming is HOT and HOT = $$$$$$$ You can't blame the rest of the industry for servicing the Co-op and Multiplayer gamers. Hell, I'm mostly a single player because I don't have the schedule to allow more of it. I'd play a lot more Co-op and Multiplayer if I had the time and especially with the right crowd.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

I am way more a multi-player gamer.

For the most part, unless the name of your company is Bioware, i couldn't give a damn about the single player.

I thought the single player in GoW 1/2 were excellent. I had no complaints.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

Cool trailer. Just enough to wet yer appetite. I agree, the single player portions of Gears 1 & 2 were awesome. Can't really get into the multiplayer thing but, of late, i have been playing the Blur Beta so, I may yet give MP another chance.

Great article in the latest Game Informer.

There should be some information online pretty soon.

And a pic (not a spoiler)

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

They have the article up at Teamxbox and though little it's enough for now. Probably the big things is four-player co-op, female character, a Arcade Mode and wilder new enemies. The highlites have to be the ability to swap weapons, new weapons and upgrades...

To fight the new threat the players have access to a new "Pendulum-era lancer with a bayonet and more powerful, close-range rounds. There's also a redesigned hammerburst with a standard zoom, a sawed-off shotgun, and a massive one-shot rifle. One strange new weapon is the digger launcher which fires piranha-like creatures into the ground where they then seek and devour their targets.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

So Beast mode will be like playing the special zombies in versus L4D?

That is problematic though.... How will Bungie copy that for Firefight-not-inspired-by-Horde-mode-at-all?
