I've got it set to record, but probably won't watch it until I finish the game.

BTW, I'm central and it's airing at 11:35pm Saturday, so you may want to check your time again Scott.

I tried to lasso one but I could not yank it off its feet to even get the hogtie prompt to appear.

The Sharpshooter Level 10 challenge is just not going to happen. I'm never getting it. Nope. Not a chance. *sigh*

You guys wanna know a real bullshit challenge?

Sharpshooter - Rank 10

Spoiler:
Disarm 6 enemies without reloading or changing weapons.

I can't even think of a good area to go to try that. I've finished Treasure Hunter which was the most fun and Survivalist which is just a PITA more than anything. Thank God for those maps! Halfway through Rank 7 of Master Hunter now.

I was trying to set up camp and I got a message "You don't have time to camp now." Does anyone know what that's all about? I'm not in the middle of a mission or anything.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Ok, so I just opened up Master Hunter - Rank 8 and THAT one is bullshit!

Spoiler:
Kill a bear with your melee knife and collect a bear pelt.

I've read that a good way to take care of that is to...

Spoiler:
Attack the bear while on horseback and ride back and forth swiping at it with the knife.

It'll be a pain in the ass but there you go.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I tried that a few times along with a couple variations. I'll come back to it later :)

I just stay on my horse and stab from there. Ride in really fast, slash, ride away. Repeat.
Makes it easier.

You can also
Spoiler:
shoot the cougar or bear in the leg or ass a number of times, then when they get weak and decide to cower and run away you can chase them down and stab them either on foot or on horse.

I wonder if the throwing knives work too.

As for the short film that airs tonight, they say that as long as you have made it to Mexico then you can watch it without fear of any spoilers.

Then, I guess I just record it and watch it until I made it to that part.

That's the approach I used. You can use the weakest pistol to get the most damage in without a kill shot.

Level 10 is pretty easy. Go into one of the saloons and get behind the bar. Pull your gun on somebody and they'll usually pull theirs. Just don't do it to any sheriffs. You can use the bar for cover and just use dead eye on each guy's gun.

A decent place to kill at least one cougar with the melee knife is on that mission in Tall Trees where you make your way up the snowy mountain to get the binoculars. After the bear, there's a spot where a cougar is guaranteed to be, and he'll be right in front so you can get into position. He'll come at you and if your timing is right, you can do two quick slashes in succession to take him down. If you get killed, you start from a checkpoint and try again. Afterwards I faced another cougar, but then again I jumped off the cliff to see if the first one would respawn so I could do it again.

The guide says Gaptooth Ridge is a good place. Inside the mine. Says it's not as hard as it sounds.

I would try and stab it once, or twice and then heal yourself, and then do it again.

I found a guy asking for cougar pelts there, but I died on the second one. Bastard.

I am starting to get freezing issues. The game has frozen on me four different times. Twice in multiplayer right after a match, and twice in single player.

The loud fan on my PS3 slim also went on, and that's never happened before.

I don't know or think it's me but last night I did the "Get the Lasso" mission again after it failed to save it and I couldn't rope a single horse in an hour of trying. I just gave up. The night before I did it the whole thing in less than 15 minutes (two horses and broke them both) but last night....I'd rope one and I'd get "you got em'" and then the rope would fall or vanish and the horse rode away. Even with them right next to me almost dead still I couldn't get it to stay on...

Are you keeping the left trigger (or whatever the aim button is if you are on ps3) held down after you throw the lasso? I didn't realize at first you had to keep it held down to keep the lasso tight.

Oh, okay. It sounds likes it's just scheduled differently, because it's airing after Wanda Sykes here.

Any advice on "win five finger fillet at torquemada"? I have a feeling this is going to be the only thing keeping me from getting 100%.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Nimble fingers. You just have to be aware for the BYXBY pattern. Skipping that 2nd (and 4th) X is the key.

yea but I'm on the ps3. I think it might be easier to do this on 360.

About the ending - SOMEBODY PLEASE CONFIRM IS THIS TRUE OR NOT....

Spoiler:

ok, so you basically just have to raom around aimlessly to find the last mission?? I ask because there are no indicators on my map as to where to go next....I'm not looking for the answer...just curious to know if an icon wil show up or not

And my main reason for asking at all in the first place was due to the amount of glitches in the game ;)

Memorize the patterns and dial them in as fast as you want. Once you start thinking of it as a combo rather than trying to react to the onscreen prompts, you'll get it.

And of course, use the lowest bets you can. I think I had to win 3 times in a row, with bets of $1, either $5 or $10, and $25.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Ok, I just beat the game - best single player game I've ever played....was not expecting what happens.

With that said
Spoiler:
I did NOT like that the last missions were "Stranger" missions - small gripe but it did kind of irritate me as I really thought it was over after the grave scene

Not too big on the multiplayer as of yet, so far I only played for abuot 15 minutes, took out the Bolinger gang and am already a level 4....not sure if that makes me good or not though. I don't think mutiplayer is Rockstar's thing but I'll have to give it a few more go arounds.

The game is definitely a masterpiece like others have mentioned though.
