Awesome ending

Speaking of the ending, did anyone else get
Spoiler:
"FUCK YEAH!" shivers after the Edgar Ross duel, Jack turns around, walks into camera, freeze-frame, go to all red and the Red Dead Redemption logo splashes on screen? That was one of the most cathartic moments I've ever experienced in a videogame...

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I did.

BTW, dueling is seriously broken. Why can I not just fire ONE bullet to disarm someone? I haven't to paint all their vital organs to win, it seems.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Um, what? I only ever fire one shot to their hand in duels.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

How do you fire then? I have to fill up a bar higher than my opponent by setting "good" targets over and over and over.

Pull LT, paint spots with RB or RT, time over - highest bar wins.

Tell me your secret to fire at will, please!

I think I am near the end. What's up with all the missions with
Spoiler:
your son, wife, and the Uncle? It feels like a tutorial.

Without spoiling the ending....Is there a point to them?

I would say yes, but I do agree with you on those missions.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I'm 98.2% done with this game. I have 2 things I KNOW that I haven't done.

1. all gang hideouts 24 hrs
2. Get the last 2 outfits (one of the outfits you have to get 100%)

If I do all of this does it sound like that would be 100%? I know its kind of a stupid question but I'm just wondering.

IMPORTANT: If anyone is having trouble with five finger fillet, I've have read that if you skip watching your opponent, that will accelerate your timer making if damn near impossible to win.

Do you need to be hooked up to Xbox Live to keep the Gentleman's outfit? I hooked back into my laptop yesterday while playing the game and lost the outfit.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Finished the game at about 90%. Need to do some bounty missions and buy a few more houses to complete it.

About the ending:
Spoiler:
Overall I loved it, really didnt expect Marston to die and then play as his son. I think the missions on the ranch were more of an epilogue for Jon than anything else. Most games would have ended after he killed Dutch.

Agree that when his son walks away and the screen freezes is very badass. Loved how they tied the story back to the title of the game.

I love GTA, but this game kills GTA4 for me. Been waiting for someone to make a great Western game, and Rockstar definitely got it right.

Right now I'd put this at a very, very close second to Mass Effect 2 for my game of the year. On to Alan Wake.

Yes, it's to get you more involved in Mareston's character so that when
Spoiler:
the ending does come, it has that much more impact....think about how out of place it would have been when Mareston died and you just started playing as his son - I mean, they could have gotten away with it by just watching a cut scene or two with Mareston and his son but that would come off as a bit lazy, doing those missions and getting involved with all of the dialouge makes it feel more complete

yeah I am back and forth with this and Mass Effect 2 as game of the year....

Absolutely had that feeling. Very bad-ass way of doing things.

As for what it takes to reach that conclusion...
Spoiler:
I'm glad it was open-ended like it was in being a Stranger mission. You had the option of going back to Blackwater to avenge the old man if you wanted to. I was disappointed you couldn't just storm into the police station and drag Ross out but doing it the way they did was extremely gratifying.

I finally got 100%. I had to do around 3 straight hrs of bounty missions and it was a pain in the ass.

So, is the Fox "movie" available anywhere online?

I'm having the same problem. For the life of me I can not figure this out. Dueling and killing those cougars with a knife are driving me up a wall.

foxdvd 05-31-10 12:34 AM

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

when it comes to duels... You have way more than this, but I always felt it was two choices, unless I was fucking around

A: go for the kill...in which case I waited for it to say draw...I hit and held LT....moved my cursor up to the head, and blasted over and over on the RT...this filled the good bar up easy every time to max

B: Go for the disarm....which is actually quicker and easier...you follow the same steps as A, but instead of the head, aim for the hand area...you only need to click RT once...that is it...if it does not immediately go into a disarm animation, you did not do it right....you are hitting the arm, or some other part, and not the actual hand...keep trying...

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Use my save trick I posted above (Have at least two deeds for horses, and change them when you want to save)...go to Armadillo, and cheat at poker...this way you can practice dueling over and over easy...

I checked it out on my DVR this morning. Not worth the time. It's just a bunch of cut scenes from the game, nonsensically grouped together IMO.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I still haven't scratched the surface of this game and it's a laugh sometimes and frustration at others. I did get my lasso working and dumb me was letting off the LT just a bit.

I lassoed two escape bandits from a lawman. I brought them back and laid them down like it said right at his feet. He thanked me and then shot them in the back on the ground and ran off...I was like WTF was that!

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

The grizzly bear attacks are crazy - I must of ran into a family because I had to take 4 down (one after another) I did not know they came at you in packs like that - One was standing on its hind legs not too far off in the distance while I was killing the one closest to me - the game so damn realistic...I was getting all tensed up...Ha, I would shit my pants in real life if any type of bear was coming at me.

I guess the only thing I haven't done is drag someone yet...I'm guessing all you have to do is drop the victim on the ground at the horses feet.

The arm wrestling is a lot of fun to. Not sure I like the five finger fillet though.

multiplayer really needs to be fixed - too many disconnects (from xbox live, not just the game) and again....I'm still not all that impressed by it - I'm hoping it will grow on me though.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Now that the game is over

Spoiler:
I feel absolutely no guilt in going for the achievements related to having a high bounty or evading the US Marshals. Something about gunning down all the local law enforcement while Jack says "The Law killed my dad!" makes it all seem justified.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

I'm having the hardest time locating the first treasure in the treasure hunt challenge.
Spoiler:
I searched around Hanging Rock, assuming that was the spot. I couldn't find it so I moved on to an area in Gaptooth Ridge with no luck. Without giving it away could someone give me any tips on reading the map? I thought I had it with Hanging Rock, but I couldn't find anything. Am I looking for a chest like the ones I find in towns? What are the numbers 1 & 11 on the map?

Thanks

It's not a 1 and an 11, it's a I and II.

You're in the right ballpark. You are looking for
Spoiler:
a pile of stones, not a chest.

Although the treasure map makes it look like
Spoiler:
you want to be some distance from Hanging Rock,
you actually want to search
Spoiler:
very close to the rock

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Found it! Thanks Jason.

Spoiler:
My problem was I was searching from a distance. It would have been much easier had I known I & II were separate images and not one big picture.

edit: No problem w/ treasure #2.
