One of them is "Spurred to Victory." If you've completed the story or are about to do so, you may be out of luck. You have to not change horses via a hitching post for 20 missions. The easiest way to get it is to just not let your horse die from the beginning on, and you'll get it after the 21st mission (the horse you are given in an early mission isn't considered a change). I don't know if you can just replay the missions to get it.

I believe that one is the only trophy that can be missed along the way and may require you to start over.

 Wish I had known that at the time. Since I was forced by the mission to get a new horse and my old horse disappeared at the time anyway, I switched to another horse shortly afterwards. This is the kind of thing that frustrates me about this game.

Speaking of being frustrated, I just found out that the reason my fame had stopped going up for the last several missions is because I was wearing the bandana. I think honor was already maxed out at least.

I can't make any progress through the story of this game for all of the side missions and bounty posters that constantly pop up. Is there a point where you've done all the bounty missions for a particular location, or do they eternally spawn? Same question for side missions as well. And is there a way to buy a f#!@*ing lock for the Armadillo shopkeeper's place? ;) He gets robbed daily it seems.

So, anybody get the Warhorse code from BestBuy? I put it in and under downloadable content it says it is there but I don't see it anywhere?

Also, I can't seem to get the Gentleman's attire either. Social Club says I have it by my inventory doesn't show it there.

When playing the game, press select, and find your Warhorse deed and click it. That will activate the horse for you. Just whistle and it'll come to you.

You can always go away if you want. These missions are intended to be done whenever you feel like it.

I've done some of the hideouts more than once, but mainly that's because a stranger mission took me there or I had to look for an outfit piece I missed the first time.

So a Bandito and a Bandita were robbing some chica in Mexico. I killed the dude and hog-tied the lady and figured it would be a good time to go for that Dastardly achievement. I threw her on the back of my horse and made my way towards Blackwater (my next stop) and found a nice spot up north of the RR camp to do the deed.

Toss her down on the tracks and go up on a nearby cliff to watch the show when two cowboys mosey on out of the forest behind me, down the trail, and right to where my victim is. They reach the tracks just as soon as the woman explodes in a shower of gore and they couldn't have seemed to care less. I left my spot, tipped my hat, and went on my way. Bros 'ere Hos, y'all.

I did a free roam mission with a buddy last night that required blowing up some crates and had my first big laugh from this game. He didn't realize I set the charges on one of the crates already and went to set them himself, he panicked but apparently couldn't stop the sequence of setting charges and was blown halfway across the canyon.

(is there a way to cancel that sequence?)

So on the next duel, I hit the dead eye button right before pulling the LT and smoked him. So I think all duels need to be in dead eye mode. :)

Ok, I'm still confused about duels. I've been in two so far, the first tutorial one and then one at the ranch (guy kept calling me yellow, had to put him down). I've won both but still unclear as to how I did it. When the duel starts, it already seems to be in Dead Eye mode as everything is slowed down and it makes that wooshing noise. IIRC, I hit LT to draw my gun, moved the reticule around the guy and either hit A or RT (I can't remember) to "paint" him with multiple targets/reticules (I assume these spots are where I'll shoot). Then, after a short time, either Dead Eye expires or I somehow leave it, and I blasted him away.

Can anyone give a little more clarity as to how duels work?

Also regarding Dead Eye, I know you press the Right Stick after LT has been pulled to enter Dead Eye. I assume that is what you do in duels as well?

Finally, funny story... I was wandering in the plains out near Armadillo. A women runs up screaming and is being chased by a pack of coyotes or wolves. I promptly kill the beasts and as she is in the middle of her thank you speech, a cougar springs out of nowhere and mauls her to death in one swipe! Sad thing for me was I didn't think I got the fame/honor credit as she wasn't finished thanking me yet before she died. Oh well, still funny though!

Thanks

Deadeye is automatic as far as I can tell, I haven't had to push in the right thumbstick during duels. There is a blue meter and a red meter. As you are pressing the RT, the blue gauge fills up. The red meter represents your opponent. You get to the top first, and you give him a toxic case of lead poisoning.

THIS! is the part I've been missing. I'll have to try that next time. I try sooooo hard not to kill the fuckers, but I never could figure out how to mark one shot and then shoot for a disarm.

Thank you!

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Remember, on duels, the vital body areas fill the meter faster. I just aim for the head and pull RT 4-5 times and it fills the meter every time.

I've done a story mission and a stranger mission each involving duels where I didn't want to kill my opponent, though.

Those instructions really needed to be in the manual. Or some way on any mini-game to review the tutorial/help at will.

Yup, I totally missed the duel explanation. It's ridiculous that you're trying to perform an action and a little box pops up in the left explaining stuff. Half the time I don't notice it until it's disappearing, and I can never find it again. Terrible that they don't let you review that stuff. I even looked in my journal and it wasn't there.

Yeah, those are tough. I had one where I just nicked his shoulder and they counted that as a win for me.

And remember, in duels don't just go crazy placing a mark on the other guy. That will work at the very start of the game, but after a number of duels into the game you all of a sudden get to a point where that doesn't work anymore. You need to place the mark when the icon sorta zooms in and becomes white for a split second. Doing that will make your shot more exact, and fill the meter faster. If you do it just right, place a perfect mark on the hand of the other player, you can win duels in just one shot.

I have done one duel so far where I have to hit the guy while he was holding a hostage. The Dead Eye 3rd level is great, I love it.

I've read about these levels of Dead Eye. Do you automatically start out with every level? Do you gain levels as you progress? How do you access the add'l levels?

Not sure if it has already been posted, but another tip for saving the game in the auto-slot is to change the aiming controls (casual, normal, expert) in the options. I noticed it saved the game when I was going for the Gunslinger achievement and had to change my aiming control to expert and then again when I went back down to casual.

***EDIT***
Looks like I was wrong folks. It saves the options to a different file. Not to the auto-slot game file. Sorry!

As you progress through the game, in certain missions people will have you do certain things, a tutorial of sorts, and then it'll pop up that you have went up to the next level.

I totally didn't notice when it said I went up to the 2nd level. I did the mission, but I sure didn't notice it when it happened. I totally noticed it when I went up to the 3rd. If you are past the mission where you
Spoiler:
shoot the hat out of the air
then you have reached the 2nd level.

You know, I casually noticed that when you change any options it saves for you but I haven't actually heard anyone flat out recommend doing that just for a quick save. Good tip there.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

It seems that each time I start playing, there's a bunch of shit I completed that still needs to be done (collecting flowers...etc.). Anyone having issues with autosave versus regular save? Also, if I die and they place me in a hotel room, should I continue or start from a previous save? Also also, is there a way to tell if I'm wanted anywhere? I have several pardon letters but have not found where at the train station to turn them in. Maybe I need to visit a different station.

Beyond that.....I tried multiplayer last night and got killed about 50 times by the same guy since I kept respawning right in front of him and he had all the guns, lots of dead eye, dynamite...and so on. I did, at least, get a rifle to go along with the pistol I started with....
