Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

HL2 is still the best, IMO. Several reasons:

Graphics - jaw dropping for its time.

Amazing physics

Long SP campaign, HL2 was over twice as long as most FPS campaigns

Great story, atmosphere and sound effects

Half Life 2, by far.

It's the only FPS I've played more than twice, and am itching to play it again.

CoD4 is a distant second, but it's just not nearly as satisfying as HL2, nor is any other FPS.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I am a FPS fantatic and for me there are too many to choose from. But my favourites are:

1. Unreal Tournment (original and 3) - Both great games and spent endless hours on each.
2. COunter Strike Source - The single best online game i have ever played.
3. Half Life Series - All great...well maybe not so much for Episode 1. But original and brilliant design and intelligence behind it all.
4. Deus Ex - Loved the story and open endedness of it. Looking forward to part 3.
5.COD 1, 2 and MW: 1 and 2 - Loved the original 2 games and the 2 modern warfare games. Really incredible stuff.
6. NOLF 1 and 2 - Both great fun and mindless fun.
7. Oblivion and Fall Out 3 - Ok so not really FPS, but both truly amazing games.
8. Timesplitters 2 - Really enjoyable little game.
9. Duke Nukem - Great old game.
10. FarCry 1 and 2 - Loved both these games.

Sure there are more out there, but can't recall off the top of my head. I always felt that Halo was massively over rated. It is a horrible game really. Same thing for Gears of War.

As a console only gamer I'm also gonna toss my vote in the hat for Goldeneye (N64)

one great thing about HL2 was the great sense of distance you traveled - other than the brief teleportation sequence, the amount of ground you covered was essentially "real time".

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I'm not going to come in here and say it's the best since it technically isn't, not even close. But it just may be the most fun I've ever had with a FPS:

Red Faction 2

Maybe I was just in a really good mode when I played through it or maybe it's just because I only play FPS games for the single player experience, but for some reason this game has really stuck with me in my mind. Now I haven't played it since it first came out, and I'm sure it has aged and it's dated by now, but still. I loved it to death when I played it, and few FPS games have stuck with me quite like that one.

speaking of counter strike...not sure if this was posted before, but it really is a funny video...for any competitive MP really. The first 2 minutes or so is just random shooting until the actual guide starts, but stick with it, you will laugh.

I've gotta go with Half-Life 2 as well.
