i have CoD: Modern Warfare and Half-Life 2 from The Orange Box and looking very forward to playing. as well as, Bioshock. still think my next one will be a 3rd person game though. perhaps Assassin's Creed 2 or Dead Space.

Not to go off-topic, but IMO the best game out of your list there is Dead Space.

As for FPS: if we're allowing Fallout 3 to count, then that. Otherwise, probably Call of Duty 4 or Bioshock 2.

Yeah, thats Half-Life 2. If you want to play a 3rd person game, I still recommend Gears of War.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

One of these days i will eventually play Half Life 2. I have had the Orange Box since release and have played it for maybe 20 minutes.

I would say my fav FPS were all old PC titles:

Thief
Tribes 2
Wheel of Time
No One Lives Forever

I know Wheel of Time was poo-pooed but i thought it did some really creative things. Especially with setting up your base before the match.

Fallout 3...even with the RPG roots, and VATS..it still is a First Person Shooter...so I have to go with it.

Half-Life 2 is second...

Surprised to not see this one mentioned yet. While the first Bioshock was the game that got me to pick up a controller for the first time in years again........the second one improved on everything and is truly the stand out game of the two for me. One of those rare instances where the sequel was very enjoyable.

As for Call of Duty....No way on the single player - multiplayer is a different story but it still has some strong competition.

EDIT - just saw someone mentioned it

I'll go out of the norm and say Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 & 2.

Out of all the FPS's that I've played, I can never get bored with it and ALWAYS end up going back to it (especially a good round of Terrorist Hunt).

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I know Portal isn't a FPS, but it is in the FP perspective, and you're shooting something in that game, so I would like to count it. That would be my fav.

After that, probably Halo. I don't even really like that serious that much, but the first game was really a blast to play. It was also my first FPS, so that probably has something to do with it.

I've never played Half Life though.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I'd have to say:

Obviously it isn't the best ever but this one just kept me coming back so many times with its over the top action, etc. This might be the only FPS that I actually went back and played through on Hard and Insane. A great game from the folks behind burnout that kept me busy for many, many hours.

I always loved the way your enemies said Grenade in that game...

I'll 2nd Quake 2.
And right after that, Half-Life.

Not Half-Life 2, but just Half-Life. Incredible.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

Half Life 2 was definitely pretty cool (played the orange box 360 version) - the first time the cops chase after you in that game.......damn man, that shit was intense.

Agreed, but I think the episodes were even better than the original HL2.

To me they're almost interchangeable. While being able to use plasmids and weapons at the same time is a huge upgrade, it didn't have the same "WOW!" factor the first one did since it's basically just a continuation with a different character, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

For single player, I'd say HL2 unless Oblivion could be considered a FPS.

For online play, Vegas for sure. The only other online game that had me as hooked was the first SOCOM when it came out.
