Post the Best FPS you ever played.

i did 1st ever, but now interested in what your all-time best FPS you ever played, especially with the rash of highly acclaimed FPS recently released.

with only 2 under my belt and a third in the hopper (that has the makings to be my top when complete), have to go with my unsurprisingly 1st ever...

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I have to give the nod to Bioshock, with Bioshock 2 a close second. Runners up: Half Life 2, COD 2 and 4, and Halo 3.

I don't consider Fallout 3 a FPS, but if I did, that would probably be on the list right around # 2 or #3.

I'd say Fallout 3, but since I played it more like a turn-based strategy than a FPS, Half-Life 2.

COD: Modern Warfare 2

I know a lot of people prefer COD4. But I think MW2 added a few tweaks and perfected the FPS.

Modern Warfare 2 may have went bigger, but I'll always have the soft spot for the original COD4

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

Nostalgia - Half Life (original PC release). Had the music, atmosphere, story, weapons selection, expansion mods and then followed it all up by giving me online TFC.

HM - Area 51. The first game (although I don't know if this was the original) that provided the ability to lean out from behind walls to shoot. This feature won me over to FPS. And I really enjoyed the story.

Call of Duty MW 2. After playing this game online I have difficulty going back to any other FPS. The gameplay style is near perfection.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

I have played tons of FPS games since I am mostly a PC gamer. The best I have ever played is easily No One Lives Forever. It is so sad that very few people have even heard of the NOLF series let alone played them.

A very close second would be the original Deus Ex. It is the only game that has perfectly blended FPS and RPG. I desperately hope that Deus Ex 3 is more like the original than the craptastic sequel.

NOLF was my second choice after SS2. (Unless the Thief series counts as a FPS, then it'd be my third choice.)

Thief is a FPS but not a FPS... The developers themselves called it a first person sneaker.

But yeah I agree Thief is another great but yet criminally unknown by the masses trilogy of games. It is one of the rare cases where the entire trilogy is pure awesomeness. Although the third game does have a bit of the "dumbed down for consoles" feel it is still a good game, unlike Deus Ex 2 which had the same feel and was a much worse game than the original.

Re: Post the Best FPS you ever played.

Based on the time they were released, obviously every game eventually ages:

Console: Goldeneye 64
PC: Half-Life
