Brink is my favorite game this year! A+!

Spoiler:
I was paid by Splash Damage to say that.

Re: Brink Game official thread

finally got my copy in today.

So far not as bad as i thought but just started a small bit of the campaign and yes the AI Bots are a big time....PITA.

Did one of the 'challenges"...which I say do since the AI in it IS EASY and a good way to know the controls and movement. Plus you do get XP so it'll help upgrade some stuff before jumping into the campaign part.

The customization is really fun to play around with on your character.

We're playing againhere shortly...coop campaign...and I'll see how that goes. Doesn't look that bad to me. i'll wait till I play more.

Well, I guess you could argue that. You could also make a case that masturbating is technically "having sex", but neither argument is very strong.

Re: Brink Game official thread

Well we played with four player coop and it was brutal. I know it states..."8 vs 8" but we swear it was more like "8 of us vs 16 of them". And all "16" were both Medic and Soldier rolled into one and all were "Veteran".

I've been playing games for a long, long time and have seen my share of "AI Bots". I still consider the Bot play in Unreal Tournament about the best in terms of ability and intelligence. But I've never seen "Bots" like this. The skill and agressiveness is way up more than I've ever seen. Not only camp in the right areas but run and charge without hesitation. We were pushed back and overran countless times. And if you killed two, four would show up in no time. They would respawn around the corner, behind you, in front of you, just about all over. On the other hand you and your Bots would respawn way back at the starting point. And on the Turrents, they would run up to yours, shoot and in two seconds it was toast. no chance on doing that to theirs.

We did finsh a few parts but it was tiresome and frustrating at times. I was beginning to feel like Custer at Little Big Horn. With so-called "patches" and DLC coming, I hope something will change with the "Bots".

sad to hear....my son used his bday money to pick this up...I tried out a little single player, and found the game to be lacking. I have yet to go into the campaign, just doing the challenges...but I am just not finding them interesting...I did watch my son do the first mission and it seemed ok...I think I will wait until a few friends pick this up before I have a go at it..

The "First" challenges are not bad at all. Some challenge to do at first but I completed them all. BUT....

I started the "Second" part of the challenge and it's a major wakeup call from the first, The Bots in the "First" cahllenge are what I'd call easy/easy medium. The Bots in the second....about the same as in the game; smart, deadly, brutal and plain out agressive.

if you remember the 'First" challenge where you have to put a bomb up and blow it up. Second time around "All of them hang out right there and not only that, put up turrents right there. Not only that they litterly "charge" up to our respawn point. A few times I was taken down when I came around the corner and didn't get a shot off.

I'm not certain if I'll even try the "Escort and Defend' second part, just the run and tag the light beans. I've read several comments over at the teamxbox and offical Brink forum the second challenges are tough and the "Defend" is almost impossible

Re: Brink Game official thread

When you say "second" challenges...I am confused...

From what I can tell there are 4 different kind of challenges...and each has 3 levels...is there another part I am missing? I find these to be very easy, and I only have the 3rd part of the final challenge to finish...

Also, I am having a lot of fun with single player...I am only 3/4 the way through the freedom fighters missions, but so far it has been fun...I did find absolute proof the game cheats...

I was laying down, waiting for a medic, and I counted all 8 enemies on the stairs in front of me keeping our team from climbing,....I got tired of waiting for a medic, so I just clicked to re-spawn..since NONE of the them were down when I re-spawned, if they had died right after me there should have been 10-15 seconds before they could re-spawn...I decided to take an alternative route...this would take about 40-60 seconds to get to from the stairs...and only 5 seconds for me, and I found 4 enemies waiting for me....WTF?!!!! Really? I can't wait for some videos to pop up showing this shit...

Re: Brink Game official thread

I read some more about the challenges...apparently they are a lot easier if you do them with a level 1 character...the enemies scale with you...

I finally did the last mission with a level 10 character...it was tough until I realized there was a shortcut back to the command center...I was running the LONG way around every time I died...also the grenade launcher is the best attachment in this game...instant crowd clearing...

Yes, that is correct using a Level one and from what I've gathered your weapon mods come with you, not the abilities.

on a side note it was way, way better last night. We did "open" coop and actually did four campaigns (Security) and only lack one. The big difference....

Upgraded weapon and abilities....I started out at Level 12 and with a few weapon tweaks and right choice it made a world of difference.

Second and more important...human team members vs a mostly Bot one. A few matches didn't pan out but the ones that did everyone was on the same page, ditching out med, ammo and with the same objective

On the "Second Challenges" that's where after you finsh all of them you go back for the "Second Round" which is much tougher and slightly different but basically the same thing on each. If you do all four of those then there's "Third Round".....note: when you pul up the 'Challenges', look on the right side and you see one star, two stars and three stars. That's what you get if you complete that level of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round

I was just confused, because I got the 100 achievement points for finishing all four 3rd level challenges, and just wanted to make sure I was not missing something...

Re: Brink Game official thread

i will pop in to offer my 2 cents:

i am playing on xbox 360. there are some texture pop ins, but these are not all that noticeable to me. i have played through about half of the missions on each side in online versus (sorry - achievement whore). i only had one game out of many that had poor lag (ie slide show). the rest have been very playable and not all that different from my TF2 experiences (a game/hat simulator that i love).

as many have posted here earlier, do the challenges with a level 1 character - the enemies do level with you. i found the parkour ones the most difficult - probably becuase i did not realize that you could switch to a light body type in the challenges. the weapons you unlock, unlock across ALL of your characters and are quite useful.

there is a depth to the customization. my two characters are a medic/engi and a soldier/engi. both have a medium body type. however, i may switch my medic to a heavy. i played tonight with a guy who was a heavy medic with a heavy MG - he would mow a swath of enemies down, rumble over to his downed team mates, revive them, then mow down the next wave of enemies. it was beautiful to watch.

anyway, i like the game. i may grow to love the game. it really does offer a different online shooter experience than what you can get from COD/BFBC2/Crysis 2. i had planned to use crysis 2 as my go to shooter, but the leveling was way too much of a grind. i think brink has easily supplanted it.

great fun. recommended. for reference, my favorite online shooter (console) experiences this generation have been MAG, halo:reach, crysis 2, and brink.

Re: Brink Game official thread

I may try tonight to jump in some randon coop and see how it pans out. I'm use to the "friends" I play with since we're on the same page and not wrapped up as to who gets credit but if something is completed. This is deinitely a Team Base one and not for hot shots on a lone mission for mega kills.

Re: Brink Game official thread

Thoughts after playing a crap load of coop...single player and versus...

Versus is broken...to the point of being one of the worst experiences ever...most of it is the lag...and if they fix that it might actually be fun, but even fixing the lag...you have an unfair advantage when you defend maps compared to being on the attacking team...One map in particular, 10 times I tried being on the attacking team, and failed EVERY time...all with random players each time...I have never lost an online match when I am on the defending team...not even close actually....

Single Player is fun...the game cheats, and ultimately it would not rate any higher than a 6 out of 10 from me, but it is worth 20 bucks just for the single player...the cheating just makes you play the game in ways to get around it...when you are on a defend map the game is actually a blast...

Coop...this is where it is at. Once you get at least 4 good players, and really 5 makes even more of an impact...the game is REALLY good...

You work as a team, adjust for the way the map is playing...and the levels have a HIGH replay value as we try different things, and change up our classes...this is going to get 20 plus hours of play time out of our group alone, not counting the free dlc...

If you have at least 3 other friends to play with, I can highly recommend this game. If not, skip it until you hear more about if the patch fixes the problems...and if you plan to play single player alone...wait till it drops below 20...

Online Versus 2 out of 10

Single Player 6 out of 10

Coop with at least 4 people...9 out of 10...

I haven't seen any, but I don't know that it was necessarily a lot.

I played with my friend some on Monday for about an hour. It is much better with real people that you coordinate with. However, the game menu and load structure is a pain. We'd both load up the level to start then once you're in you have to invite something. Instead of just switching one of us over it forces you to reload the entire level again!

I'm hoping it will be better with more understanding of the maps, more friends playing at once and the new additions via the DLC.

World wide it sold 147,000 on the ps3 and 387,000 on the xbox week one according to vgchartz....so just a bit over half a million week one...

They only have Europe's week two at this point and those numbers fell 50%...which is normal...so it looks like it will be at 750,000 or more all systems after 2 weeks...If they patch this, and with the free dlc, this could end up moving 2 million copies, which just goes to show you how much demand there is for solid coop....(and NOT just another horde type mode)...when a game gets blasted this much, and still does well...

What about PC sales?

I'm not sure how you can extrapolate 2M from 750k in sales - that sounds like a big stretch to me. With your 750k figure that puts them around $40M and I wouldn't be surprised if this cost more to make than that since they've been going around saying it's a AAA title.

I base that off what games usually end up doing with week one sales of 500,000 and only a 50% drop week 2...most of the time that ends up at 2 million. Mafia 2 did about 40% less week one sales, fell about 45% week 2 and still ended up doing 2 million...

As for cost...this game did not cost that much to make...Very little voice work and cinema scenes...this does not have a big budget...I just don't see how....My guess is this ends up turning a nice profit for them...

Re: Brink Game official thread

I forgot the pc version...but it did 32,000..but that is only box sales...vgchartz does not have sales from places like steam...

I don't have any idea how much steam and other digital sales do for pc games...I heard at one time it was 50/50...but I am not sure...even at 50/50 that would mean after 2 weeks all formats they are right at 850,000 in sales...

Re: Brink Game official thread

Well I stand corrected...Brink fell a lot harder in America than it did in Europe..(75% drop vs 50%)..so as it stands, with digital versions it is probably around 800,000 units sold....at this pace it probably is going to hit 1.5 million tops....

Hey...sorry i haven't replied but we're getting some of that "Mid America" bad weather. We lost electricity for awhile but back up. I haven't played since Monday night but I'll try to get on tonight for awhile or Friday.

It's been sparse with online coop which is a shame. it's actaully quite fun with a about 4-5 human players on your team filled in with bots. I played 8 matches on Monday and didn't see more than 3 human players on the team at once. I'll look for you next time I'm on.

Re: Brink Game official thread

this game has to be the worst game of the year.. I had more fun playing Man vs. Wild. I played Brink for a total of 30 minutes, i went into like 3 games that were ridiculously laggy, and then I couldnt take it no more, good thing Amazon is giving $31 for a trade-in.

I dont think the developers played this game before releasing it, if they did they wouldn't make us suffer with this junk.
