I understand what you're saying but there are quite a few gamers that like overly simplified games with heaps of repetition because they feel comfortable there. A good friend of mine like no story and gameplay that I just spoke of that is repetitious and safe.

Re: Brink Game official thread

My problem is the game was push and sold as something it was not...

It was suppose to be a revolutionary hybrid of Single player/coop/MP....

It turned out to be a MP game with bots....

There is nothing wrong with a MP game with bots...just don't act like you shit a gold brick when you actually just spit out a few rabbit turds...

They really Molyneuxed this one....

I was at Gamestop today right at opening and there were six guys ahead of me, each looking like they came right out of a skateboarding convention. One guy had a Nightmare Before Christmas hat on, leather boots, striped pants, a wallet chain. Of the six dudes, five bought Brink.

I went and bought, then immediately returned the copy I had paid off. Two other guys were there picking it up. I stayed quiet and let them buy it...should have warned them

Well...with the way reviews are coming in from mags and users there will be one person who loved it and one that hated it.

Re: Brink Game official thread

So far I love it. Got the PS3 version. It runs at a smooth rate and I've had no slowdown during offline gameplay. As far as online gameplay goes there is no shooter in the world that doesn't have lag when it first gets up and running. The controls are precise and highly customizable (There are controls settings that are obviously named after all the major shooters out there - i.e. Duty Calls, Green space marine, Field of Battle, etc...). Not as precise as CoD but better than BFBC2. The campaign is minimal and the gameplay is fast and frenetic. The bots are not as dumb as they are made out to be in the reviews but they are still bots. The weapons feel well balanced as nothing seems to overpowered. The parkour is OK - it feels like you just have to get used to it. If your into fast paced multiplayer this gives a different take.

For anyone who picks this up - I'd highly recommend doing the challenges first as it walks you through things and lets you unlock attachments for your weapons upon completion of objectives.

I tried it out last night for a bit and have the same conclusions (Xbox). I tried to jump right into the story, but it was so frantic I was confused, especially since I didn't know how to operate the controls. I went back and did some of the challenges to get a better handle on how things work. They helped, but they could have done a better job with getting you accustomed to the controls.

This may be obvious to others, but if you want to slide you have to hit the duck button while you are already holding down the SMART button. From the videos I had the impression that the SMART/parkour button, coupled with whatever direction you were looking would dictate how you get over/under and obstacle. However, that is not the case. Also, I have yet to run along a wall.

I do like how it really forces you to think 3 dimensionally as well.

Re: Brink Game official thread

Well two of my online buddies got theirs and played last night. And what he had to say fit's inline the general thought.

He said it is a bit confusing and the "normal" setting could be "hard" for other games. And yes the enemy AI is a bit better than your support ones.

He had no issues with frame rate and the game looked good (360). Some lagging on a few online matches. He said he could see the coop play and MP being better and more predictable than straight out AI Bots.

I did read over at the Offical Brink site where one of the DEVs chimmed in on the AI Bots. he said they'll get better as you get better. And the more "human players" the better and more constant the AI is. They won't react as fast as human players but they will.

Very true. If you are worried about having a high K/D ratio look elsewhere.

Completely agree. It also makes you realize that alternate routes and flanking are far more effective than running in straight ahead with guns blazing.

How are you playing online on the PS3?

He did not say he has played online. He only stated there are no online games without lag. He did indicate there was no slowdown offline.

BTW...this online fiasco with Sony is a joke!!!! Still no access after all of this time. Not very good for business.

Re: Brink Game official thread

I was surprised to find the 360 version of this at my local Redbox today (not nearly as surprised to see the PS3 version was also available). For $2, I'll give it a spin before I have to return it tomorrow night. I don't think this is my sort of game, but am curious to see for sure.

Re: Brink Game official thread

This sounds like the perfect Redbox game. Play through the 8 maps in a couple days, and return.

As long as there's not some sort of bullshit "Project $10" online-access code, right?

Re: Brink Game official thread

Yeah, I checked online and saw that was available here too, in Redbox.

I wonder about the PC version, that seems to be the best option, if you have a good enough card. I may try it when it hits $20 in Steam.

Brink gets patch and news of free DLC

From Teamxbox....

Bethesda and Splash Damage's team-based shooter Brink may not have had the smoothest of launches this week, but they've announced a patch and news of free DLC that should help address some issues with the game.

The patch, which doesn't require a Title Update, fixes some multiplayer issues by altering the amount of human players available in some modes, which should assist in connecting to other players. They also announced that the first DLC pack, which is currently set for June and is said to contain new maps and additional content, will be free
