So far, so good!

The biggest downside is so far is some screen tearing. But the game is paced very well, at least in the opening episode. I'm only allowed to talk about Episode 1, and even then there's a list of things I can't talk about (dialog, plot, licensed songs, etc) - so i'll have something written up by the end of the weekend I imagine.

Can you say whether or not you think this is going to become a huge innovative IP for Microsoft like Heavy Rain/Demon's Souls was for PS3 (or like the original Mass Effect was for MS?)

I hope it becomes a big seller. The production quality is pretty nice, and the general creepy feeling you get when reading a Stephen King story is throughout the game so far. As most King stories are 'something fucked up happening to a normal person for no reason' it seems like that's the case here. Which I enjoy.

From what you've seen so far, will there be much/any replayability? Or is it pretty much a one shot through the story and that's it?

Like, from the achievements... Multiple endings, choices, paths, difficulties, etc. AFAICT, that information hasn't been published.

Seems very linear, but completion requires playing on multiple difficulties. (there are 3)

Preview is up btw.

Read it, sounds promising

I'll wait to see if this is a title to own or simply borrow/rent.

I'm still not convinced. I'll wait for impressions from more reputable sources before I decide whether or not to buy this. I mean, L&O is a former Canadian, for cripe's sake!

I'm still hoping that this will show up in my Gold Box before my GoW III credit expires next week. (although I did also preorder from Gamestop using their 25% off discount as a backup.)

As far as I know, this is the first preview on the web...if you guys want to help spread the word I wouldn't be disappointed. ;)

I have this preordered and am pretty jazzed for it, but I hope they fix the screen tearing mentioned by L&O. That shit drove me nuts on Darksiders, almost to the point where I stopped playing the game.

I think I may have found a workaround to prevent that. Apparently, the issue stems from setting the 360 to 1080p when the game itself is NOT 1080p... I am going to set it down to 720 and see if that removes the tearing.

Mok 04-26-10 07:57 PM

I just hope the game is not short. I just finished watching the 2 Bright Falls episodes on XBL, I can't wait to see more.

Re: Alan Wake

Not sure if this was already mentioned, sorry if it's a repost : At Best Buy, you can preorder the game for $5 down. Not a big deal usually, but here the preorder comes with a trio of download codes which net you an avatar I Am A Wake shirt (male or female) and a very nice premium Bright Falls theme. Like all Best Buy game preorders, it's fully refundable, with reciept only, after the game comes out (not that I would ever encourage such behavior; just nice to know if by some chance one finds a better deal elsewhere).

Re: Alan Wake

are those videos going to be included with any edition of the game? LE?
I checked Amazon and it doesn't mention anything. I think read somewhere about it, but I can't remember where.

Re: Alan Wake

The game just keeps getting better. Put aside any doubts you had folks, the long development time seems to be worth it.

Also - I changed my video out settings from 1080i to 720p last night (for some reason, my 1080p setting is greyed out...even though my receiver AND TV handle it) - and the screen tearing stopped happening. I need to play more to make sure it really happened, but making the console not have to upscale seems to lessen the issue.

Re: Alan Wake

Glad to hear it's living up to the hype. Between this, Red Dead Redemption, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Modnation Racers, May's going to be a hell of a month.

Screen tearing is one of my biggest pet peeves as it tends to give me a major headache. Hopefully it will be patched like Darksiders was.

just saw on AOTS that first run copies of the game will have the 1st DLC included.

I doubt it seeing as the workaround is simple.

Wonder if it has any replayability though.

I'd like the LE as well, but since Amazon isn't giving a $10 credit on the LE (yet), it works out to be a $30 difference in price, and that's too much $$ for the extra content I'd be getting.

They rarely give the bonus on LE/CEs. Very lame on there part. But I only buy 2-3 games a year, so $10 isnt a big thing

Re: Alan Wake

If somehow you have some Best Buy GCs lying around you can preorder there. Standard and LE editions give you 150 Rewards points or something that's basically a GC for $10, same as Amazon.

That's what I plan on doing. 500 bonus points for preordering through the games club or whatever they call it, plus as I understand it it'll be 60 toward the 150 needed for $10 from the games club, and 60 towards the 250 needed for the standard $5.

Yeah, but with California tax being 8.25%, it would be a wash.
