Re: Alan Wake
Didn't they recently confirm, or at least strongly hint, that the 2nd DLC will also be the last?
|
Re: Alan Wake
I finished the first DLC this morning. I then traded in at Gamestop for credit towards Halo Reach. Alan Wake was not bad but I most certainly did not live up to the hype. IMO.
|
Re: Alan Wake
Any idea when the 2nd DLC comes out? I'd like to trade this in too -- before it's value falls anymore.
|
Re: Alan Wake
I only got $18 in trade from Gamestop..

Re: Alan Wake
The game has an MSRP of $39.99 now and comes with a non-reusable DLC code. It's a game that's been out for months and has very limited replayability. I'd say that 45% of new retail price is actually a pretty fair value, all things considered.

Re: Alan Wake
BTW : I did Episode 3 last night and I sort of see what Rival11 was talking about, saying the game picks up at that point. Still, it wasn't that different (though it was certainly longer). I'm going to play through since I like the story and want to see where it goes. I'm wondering if I should have played the game on Hard as there really isn't much challenge on Normal. In any case, it's not a slog and I sort of enjoy the game. It's just not that great as I thought it would be.
Did you folks fight the flying machinery or just avoid it? |
Re: Alan Wake
The different difficulties only make things harder to kill and sort of limit your supplies. There are very few fights, even on Nightmare, that you HAVE to do. Most of the time you're just running. It's sort of a catch-22, really, from a development standpoint. So I wouldn't worry too much about Hard over Normal (especially now that you're slightly more than half-way through ;)). But if you want more, Nightmare can be pretty fun.
Oh, and you should love the sequence in Ep4! Wear headphones after the little one(s) go to bed and crank that shit up! |

I ordered a cheap used copy of Alan Wake through goHastings and the DLC code was unused!

Re: Alan Wake
I beat this last night and felt disappointed. That final chapter felt like a total slog. I think, in the end, there wasn't enough variety in the gameplay to keep me interested. I have the first DLC and will probably try that, but unless my roommate wants to play it I'm going to sell it. Call of Cthulhu was a better horror game and experience than this.

Remedy announced the last DLC comes out Oct 12 for 560 points

Re: Alan Wake
FUCK! I'm going to be so broke. I need some MS points deals...
|
Re: Alan Wake
Yep, day 1 purchase for me.
|
Re: Alan Wake
How many packs are there? I have the first one in the unopened LE I just got. I haven't played any of them yet.
|
Re: Alan Wake
Including this new (and final) one? Two.
|
Re: Alan Wake
Hmm, I thought there was more. At least three.
|
Re: Alan Wake
Quick question.....I think I'm going to buy the first add on The Signal - I really did dig the main game even though it got a little repetitive.
My question is......do they have any of the kick ass spring falls tv shows in the signal - I love those. |
Re: Alan Wake
Nope :( The game comes with a code to get The Signal for free. I'm guessing you know that and don't have access, but just in case...

After finishing the game, I decided to wait a while before checking out The Signal. I felt a little burned out by the sameness of the gameplay. I'll probably check it out in a few months and wait for The Writer to go on sale before picking that one up. |

Re: Alan Wake
Question : will anything in that clip above spoil anything with The Signal?

Re: Alan Wake
I need to still go back and do nightmare, but I am stuck on a late chpt of Halo Reach on Legendary now...(fuck you checkpoints...no health, no ammo and you give me a checkpoint in the middle of 50 fucking elites?) Still I am actually very excited about this dlc...a sign of how much I loved the game... I don't get as excited for DLC for Mass Effect 2, Red Dead, Bioshock 2...and those are games I rated higher after playing them..I would still rate Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead as the better games, but it makes me wonder why I get more excited for dlc for Alan Wake...???? |

Re: Alan Wake
I'm definitely in for the next DLC... to me, the game wouldn't be complete without playing thru it.

Re: Alan Wake
I felt that the original game was a full and complete experience by itself. Anything else is just cake, and I like cake enough to pay money for it.
I would've gladly bought The Signal if they hadn't gone against the current trend and included it free with the original game. So, bonus points to them. |

How is it a full and complete experience? He is looking for his wife who disappears in the beginning and still has not found her yet whether it is alive or dead. That is like starting a game where you are required to restore light in a faraway kingdom thrown into darkness by an evil spirit yet the game ends before you even have a chance to complete your quest.
The Signal and this other DLC coming out should have been a part of the original game. |

I will say this; if for some reason The Writer completely wraps everything up in a tidy bow -- then yes, I agree with you 100%. If it leaves things open ended like both the original game and The Signal then I guess Remedy can justify the DLC cost :) I suspect it will be the latter.

Re: Alan Wake
I guess some people saw a wildly different ending cinematic than I did. Or perhaps they didn't watch it at all.

Re: Alan Wake
"The Writer" DLC is scheduled to be released today. Joystiq's review says it's much improved over the first DLC (90 minute playtime, like most other episodes). http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/11/al...writer-review/
Comments section says the difficulty is more like the main game and not like "The Signal" |
Re: Alan Wake
So what do these DLCs do for the story? Any additional word on a sequel?

Re: Alan Wake
Just finished the Writer....
Not as good as I was hoping for. I think I liked The Signal better.... The game has some control problems for me...jumping and climbing on things seemed clunky, and during one part on a bridge my character would keep getting stuck climbing up stairs... Also some fucking STUPID design choices...one part where you had to jump was just bad...it asks you to focus by clicking on your left stick, and while the scene is playing out, and you keep having to push focus...I must have still been moving and as soon as I came out of focus I fell to my death... minor spoilers...not giving away the ending, just how I felt about it Spoiler:
this next one is major spoilers...don't click unless you have beaten the Writer Spoiler:
As far as the game went, it was still fun, but as was said above, I am ready to be done with it...6 out of 10...with the main game being a 9 out of 10.... |
Re: Alan Wake
How much do you think is a fair price to pay? It looks interesting but i think i'd wait till at least $20-$30 range.
