I'm a pretty competent expert plastarist, and I'm probably going to have to start over on easy pro-tar, due to them being two drastically different sets of skills. The only thing I have going for me as a plastic guitarist is that maybe I have good rhythm and timing, but the picking of the strings will be different (I just use my thumb right now), and the fretting is vastly different on a real guitar. I'd say if you have more than a passing interest in learning real guitar, go ahead and pick it up now if you think you'll stick with it.

Well I should also add that I will be learning keyboards too, so getting the cool guitar is third on my list after mastering expert and playing through keyboards.

That's what I was thinking, too - I'm going to start with the keyboards and hopefully by the time I feel like tackling pro guitar, the price on that one will have dropped a bit.

Screw it, I'm just going to sell a kidney so I can afford to get the Keyboard bundle, Realtar, and another kick pedal, all at launch. Then of course I'm going to have to quit my job to have time to play all of these instruments. Then I'll just continue selling organs until I run out.

from the way people have been talking I thought they released some info. The game looks amazing, i'm super pumped for the new instruments. I've failed at learning the guitar my entire life, but for some reason I can play expert guitar on RB pretty good. I think the new guitar may finally be my bridge to learning the real thing. I've been dreaming about a game like this for for 15 years, glad somebody finally figured out how to pull it off.

In addition to playing the keyboard parts of Rock Band 3, the Wireless Keyboard Controller can also be used to play the lead guitar or bass parts of the game.
any ideas on how this will work? how do you strum? or will the keys work like the solo-buttons, i.e. no strumming needed. Maybe I'll finally be able to beat GG&HT with this as the guitar...

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do

Yeah, you don't strum, just push the keys.

I think I'm in the same boat. I'm at the point now that even on expert I fail only the most difficult songs.

I don't mind starting all over on easy Pro especially if the skillz are for realz.

I think it'll be a little bit different for drums. You're mostly playing real drums right now, they're just throwing a couple more things to hit at you. Guitar is going to be a totally different beast.

I'd say at your skill level on drums, you can probably jump right into expert at lower-mid tiered stuff and do just fine. You may have to drop down to hard for like a day or something to get the hang of it, but then you'll be right back to where you're at.

I can do hard/expert drums now. I picked up drumming because I was starting to master the guitar as best I could. No I don't GS every song but I don't ever expect to. I do expect to get better over time and I have.

Having a real guitar is going to be awesome. So any of those artists that have some beef with playing a "game" (Prince, Led Zep. etc.) instead of picking up the "real" thing ... what's your excuse now?

Absolutely not. I posted this on the RBA comments from my phone when my internet was down this morning. You cannot disagree without being a douchey, crybaby elitist:

I think this is fantastic news to further expand the fan/custome base for Rock Band. My daughters and their friends will love it and I will happily buy it ASAP when available.

Haters gonna hate, but they know it’s not a bad thing. Luckily they don’t have to buy it and at least these songs aren’t on the RB3 disc to force ownership, regardless of the ability to hide/disable songs in the new library interface.

Yeah, its definitely a good "get" for Harmonix. Just like the Lady Gaga, Country, and various other stuff I personally don't really care for. Although even in the country packs there are some fun songs on drums that I enjoy playing.

Were a Miley Cyrus track announced to be on the RB3 disc would the "douchey, crybaby elites" be able to question your point? :)

No, but then they'd have more of a reason to bitch. Here it's completely tertiary.

Also: suck it. You have to put stuff like that over there for the unwashed masses. Here, we're much more logical and sane to even need to broach the difference.

I want every song ever made available for Rock Band, so you'll get no complaint from me.

(But I won't touch that shit with a ten foot stripper pole.)
