Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
Sounds like the Dandy's went with an unscrupulous RBN creator.

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
There are some Dandy Warhols songs that I would still pay $3 for were it the only option.

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
About the $3 RBN songs..
*ALL* of the stuff that's been put up by EMI (the label) has been priced at 240pts/$3. There are other "major" labels putting stuff up at $1 or $2 (Century Media, SubPop, Nuclear Blast). This is either EMI being greedy, *or* it could be an effort to get them out of the big hole that they're currently in. According to this link from last month, they're several billion in the red and need to come up with 160 million to not default on a loan. They're struggling and they may be taking it out on the consumer. http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2010/...n-default.html |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I think $3 is a threshold I can't cross. Maybe for a really long or beloved track, but even then I would be hesitant to support that price point. The exception would be if it was completely independent and none of the money went to a major (i.e., greedy) label.

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I think the $3 price point is going to bite EMI in the ass. People have been buying official HMX dlc for over 2 years now and haven't breached that $2 price point, even for the fucking Beatles! I think they'll get a few bites at $3 from big fans and huge songs (like Bullet with Butterfly Wings or Dancing With Myself), however they're gonna lose out a lot on people who won't buy it on principle.
XNA content is able to change price quarterly, so RBN songs definitely have the ability to drop (or raise) in price. They might try to get as many people to buy at $3 during their first quarter and then drop them to $2 to pick up everyone who was sitting on the fence. Personally, I won't pay $3 for any song. There's even a 10-minute track (the max length) up on RBN right now, and it's only 80pts. It's from a signed artist too, so it's not like it's just some unsigned band putting up their own stuff. |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I think with the exception of Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin or a HUGE band I wouldn't pay $3. Though, I suppose if it's an amazing song I'd CONSIDER it. But $3 is a bit much. Hell, most of my friends think $2 is too much for a track.
I'm hoping for something amazing today to supplement Business Time, 3rd Eye Blind & Lady GaGa. Though, OT, does anyone feel like Poker Face and Let's Dance sounds VERY similar? |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I posted this on CAG, but the only way I cross the $3 threshold is for a Dream Theater epic, and there are two factors at work there. One, they're my favorite band, and two, I'm talking the 13-24 minute epic tracks.
$3 for a standard track by your run of the mill band will get passed over pretty quickly. |

Is Bullet with Butterfly Wings EMI? If so, I'll wait for them to wise up and lower the price. It's a shame, I was looking forward to it.
Blondie - Atomic The Dandy Warwhols - Bohemian Like You Billy Idol (with Generation X) - Dancing With Myself Slaughter - Fly to the Angels That's all I see up there right now. Bullet With Butterfly Wings is no longer up. Playtests generally last two weeks, but an author can pull them at any time to fix things and put up a new version. So one of those two things happened to that track. |

Oh man.
Slaughter would be incredible to have in the game. I don't think i could bring myself top pay 3$ a track though. |

$3 for a standard track by your run of the mill band will get passed over pretty quickly. I understand they have a 10 minute limit. This sucks because I really wanted some of the epic Phish songs like Divided Sky, but 17 minutes is too long for Rock Band. |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
^^ I was never a huge fan at the time but I would love some Skid Row in RB. A nice 6 pack would do nicely.

There's probably something in the XNA guidelines that say you can only use so much RAM at any given time, and 10 minutes is probably close to that limit. |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I've been talking with the guy doing the tracks for Umphrey's McGee, trying to find good live versions under 10 min. Hopefully they lighten up on this since that's one of the things I want out of RBN, the epic rock tracks that go beyond 10 minutes.

As long as we're wishful thinking, I would kill or die for Montrose's debut album in RBN.
