Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Couple quick question on the new Netflix app. first, I can't seem to figure out how to fast forward. If I hit the right arrow key I get the regular screens that you saw when you FF on the Disc version but for some reason the fast forward buttons on my remote don't do anything. Any ideas?

Also, is there a way to quit the app except for holding down the PS button on the controller and selecting quit? Most times I use my IR Universal remote (which I have an adapter for) and it works perfectly (save for the possible FF issue I mentioned earlier) but I can't find a way to quit the app from it. It's be a pain to have to use the controller just to quit the app.

I just downloaded & installed it and came here to ask the exact same question. Seems they forgot to include the FF or Rewind buttons on the update. I have tried it with several different remotes and no go. Back to the Xbox for the moment.

I do like the search feature and the layout. Going thru your queue is much better than the way the 360 is laid out.

Fix FF and Rewind and I my PS3 will likely be my main movie machine.

I'm using a Harmony remote and the FF/Rewind buttons work just fine, so they have to be mapped to something. It gives you the little arrows to show the speed of of FF/Rewind on the screen when I press them on my remote.

I haven't found a way out of the app other than the PS button, though.

'Straight up beast!"
I doubt that has six axis but its pretty much like the afterglow one I mentioned above that I saw at costco. Also dig that his Time Warner is SHIT. I thought I was the only one

One thing they really need to change about the Netflix update is the Friends online/offline indicators. It would be a constant annoyance while trying to watch a movie.

Ok I solved one of my questions, it looks like the FF/RW buttons are mapped to the left and right directional keys. Not ideal but that works. Now if only there was a way to quit the App from the menus without requiring a touch of the PS button. Checked out Season 1 Episode 1 of Damages in HD tonight, worked VERY well despite my downloading of several big files on my Mac during the time.

That's why it's best to not have any friends.

AFAIK, you don't have to be signed into PSN for the whole time, just initial boot of the app

This. I have none on PSN, since I don't play games on it.

I exited out of the app, signed out of PSN, and then tried accessing the app again. It needed me to sign into PSN. It's okay, I don't mind the notifications, and they can be turned off in the settings IIRC...

Worked great for me last night and was nice and fast. I have no problem with the interface but I use the Blutooth remote control when watching movies since the controller is not intuitive.

But then you turn it off for games too, right? Hopefully they will allow you to turn off the notifications on a situational basis.

Why did you do that? You sign out of PSN while in the app

I usually just leave myself signed in for everything, was just testing it out. So you access the XMB while in Netflix and you can sign out w/o any problem?

I like the new Netflix interface. Finally we can see multiple titles on the screen. Loaded up very fast. Currently streaming "Matchstick Men" in 1080p. Looks pretty decent for streaming.

I wasn't interested in Netflix until checking it out yesterday. It is awesome and definitely worth the 8.99 a month. I also have Blockbuster and will likely do away with that.

It's TOTALLY worth it now that the streaming client is working so well and the variety of titles is increasing so much. Having the discs available to rent is almost like a nice bonus. I get the blu rays too so I pay a bit more but it's still easily worth it especially now that the streaming on the PS3 has a new disc free and improved client.

Agghh! Totally forgot about the first 5000 thing. I'm sure I didn't make it.

As a side note, any annual subscribers to Qore, go check your download section. They added the Qore Arcade today to the downloads which compiles ALL the Qore games and puts them right on your XMB. No longer do you have to save the Qores to play the games.

If you're a fan of mini-games and whatnot, it might be worth the 24 bucks or whatever to get the annual and get the full set of games. About 400 megs worth.

Another side note, Amazon Warehouse just had a Like New PS3 320GB Move Bundle for under $300.

I'm assuming you can stream the 1080p stuff even if you don't pay extra for Blu-ray discs? And how much extra is Blu-ray, a couple bucks?

You can stream unlimited for $8.99 and you get 1 disc at a time. That plan adds $3 if you want BD. I think 2 and 3 at a time adds $4 extra.
