Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

So all I need to back up is the save files, right? There are no music or video files on this system. Do I need to do something with the trophies or is that tied to the account and will be there when I sign on to the new slim?

And after I get the save files I deactivate the account and do a system restore?

Anything I'm missing or not doing correctly?

Thanks

Trophies are saved locally, but are also synced to their servers when you look at them (while signed in). So make sure you look at them before deactivating the system. When you get your new system and sign in, it will download the trophies info.

Yeah, I just did that. It said "syncing trophies" so I think I'm good.

Yeah I was ready to go ahead and do it anyway, but Gamestop said they won't take it if the warranty sticker is off, so I'm out of luck there.

So after even MORE flip-flopping, I've decided to trade in my 60GB (i wish I wasn't such a sentimental sap - I went to go get the box it came in to pack it up and was all "I can't give up my baby!" ). Anyway, I'm all set to go but have run into a small hiccup - I can't find my original Sixaxis controller. Why? My 15 month year old is obsessed with controllers/computer mice/remote controls/etc. (she treats them all like telephones) and has apparently hidden it somewhere. I asked her where it was, she pointed at me and said "Da-da".

My 20 month old does this all the time. It has taught me to keep them up out of reach.

New Qore episode for this month hasn't been released yet. So I think we'll find out on Tuesday yes or no.

Does anyone know how long the 3-month bonus offer for Plus lasts? I'm not sure if there's enough I'd want for the first month, so I would wait if the bonus will still be offered next month.

There's not a lot of transparency with the US stuff, but the EU blog said their deal ended on August 3rd. So my assumption is that they are the same expiration date.

Thank you guys so much for pointing out the gamestop deal, saved me 200 bucks.
They accepted an opened console back? What is Best Buy's return policy for consoles?

Thanks. I went ahead and signed up yesterday for plus, after doing some more searching I came across others saying the same thing (first Tuesday of every month). I did talk with one of the guys I work with (who has subscribed to Qore since the beginning and just subscribed for the 3rd year in June) and evidently Sony has no offers to "upgrade" them to plus.

Looks like you are right. Yesterday I got my first issue of the Playstation Magazine from that $5 Amazon subscription - it has an ad that says "new Qore episode July 6th".

So I finally did the Gamestop trade in yesterday - and the result is I'm happier than I thought I'd be, I guess I never reallized how loud my old one was. I loved the look of the phat PS3 but I'm really digging the look of the slim. Heck I could probably stack the slim on top of my PS2 - ta-da! - backwards compatibility within the same size of my old phatty!

Anyway, after the trade of the consoles and some older games I'll never play again - I ended up paying around $6 total ($5.50 plus the tax on that $5.50).

edit: I also did the 20% off squaretrade warranty deal online - 3 years for < $30.

good deal ... like I said I too didn't realize how nice the slim looked and how much smaller it actually was until I had it in house on the same shelf where the phat stood

I also opted for a ST warranty at a discount (under $30) however it really is only paying for the 3rd year for the most part as the hardware has a 1 year mfg warranty from Sony and my credit card company will match that for the second year. ST does however provide for covered shipping of the hardware while I believe the cc company doesn't

I wondered about that. I don't subscribe to Qore, but can't they cancel their subscription and get partial credit back?

Evidently not, according to post over at the Sony forums all purchases are final. If you were one of those that renewed your subscription at the beginning of June your out of luck, you have to pay an additional $50 for Plus.

That is some shitty customer service. You would think that they would throw the Qore customers a bone to get all them signed up. It just makes good business sense.

The whole Qore sub thing sucks. I reupped my sub back in April. So basically Plus cost me $75. (Divided by two thanks to Kmart but it still sucks all the same.)

wasn't a problem, I'm pretty sure it's 30 days like anything else (but it's possible its 14 but it was only 2 days for me)

Ive read in several places that their PS3s make alot of noise, a guy noted that he actually saw a 2 hour movie and it didnt make a sound! Are these only certain models? I decided to pay attention last night and I had a 2.5 hour Blu going, than played a game for another 2 hours or so.... my PS3 never made a sound.

I have the original 80GB model. (4 USB, memory card, PS2 b/c) When I first bought it, it was very quiet. Not completely silent, but it was dramatically more quiet than the launch-day 360 that I traded in to get it. But with each firmware update, the system became louder and louder. (I think that they tweaked the cooling settings in the firmware to help them run cooler)

Funny, the PS3 sounds even louder after picking up a 360 slim.

Are last week's deals and freebies on PSNplus still active as well?
