So, I guess, here's my question... Can we at least backup the save using the backup utility? Or with the new firmware update with transferring saves across PS3s on the same network, can we transfer that way? Or are these saves still locked from those things as well?

Transferring it by ethernet cable allows the protected saves to be copied over I have read.

Are you sure? How do we go about doing this?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

You use that transfer utility.

However, note that:

When you perform this operation, all data that is stored on the PS3™ system that will receive the data (the "destination system”) will be deleted.

If the transferred data is saved game data that is copy-prohibited or data that is copyright-protected, it will be moved to the destination PS3™ system and deleted from the source PS3™ system.
Here's some more information about it: http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...erutility.html

I don't think it's going to work for what we want, which is a way to just make a copy of a game save in case the system dies or the drive crashes. The utility's intended purpose seems to be for "migrating" to a different system (like to a slim).

Did anyone try the Dark Void demo?

I played it on the 360. It feels like a Rocketeer movie. I wasn't impressed by it. I'll pick it up when it hits $20.

I did. It seems like a cool idea, but the demo didn't do a whole lot for me. It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't that great. Still, I'll see what reviews have to say about it...

I need to migrate everything on one of my 60s to my slim but I think that I will lose all copy protected saves once restoring them to my new system.

I really disliked the demo. I was a big fan of Crimson Skies, but this demo did not remind me of Skies.

Yeah. Pretty good voice acting in the opening cinematic, but the flying controls sucked. Pass.

Crimson Skies is in serious need of a revival. Even if just on XBLA.

If you migrate everything to the slim, why would you need to restore anything? If it's for a bigger hard drive, it should work as long as you migrate, then back up the slim's default drive, replace the drive, and then restore the backup to the new drive.

If you restore a backup to a new system some of the contents (protected) will not be carried over to the new system. They can backed up and restored over and over to the original system with various hdds but once you try and restore them to a new system you lose some of that data.

I know, but I thought you could do the transfer to the slim first, then do the backup if you want to swap the drive.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

I just read an interesting article about games that were developed on a PS3 using a power glove-type control that helps kids with hand injuries get rehabilitation. The article mentioned that other VR type games could be developed in the future. I could see ths kind of thing developing with Sony's eye toy.

Glad to see the PS3 is still doing its part to save the world.

Since Uncharted 2 got 10's on many of its reviews, does that mean GOWIII will get 11's?

Uncharted 2 was a very special game. It was fresh, exciting and very well acted. I'm sure God of War 3 will be excellent, but at least with the demo, it felt a lot like the last 2 games with better graphics. I'd expect a slew of 9s, but I'd be surprised if it scores 10s. Based on the demo, it's not innovative enough in its gameplay to warrant perfect scores.

Then GOWIII has really to step up from the demo.

Isn't God of War also being developed by a different team than the first two games? Or was it only Jaffe exiting the only difference?

That demo was spectacular. I must've played it a dozen times.

The demo for GOWIII was a step up from the first two but it didn't blow my mind. For someone to be left speechless it needs to be much better than that.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

For me, the gameplay in GoW was mediocre at best. I was in it for the story. I do worry that with Jaffe being gone that it'll suffer in that regard, but I hope they have enough foundation and precedent to know where to go with it.
