Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Does anyone have any recommendations for a tool I can download to format an external hard drive for use with my PS3? I bought a 500GB drive, but the PS3 can only recognize FAT32 and Windows Vista can't format anything larger than 32GB as FAT32.
After some searching I found some recommendations for something called Swissknife (but that doesn't seem to work under Vista), another tool called fat32format (but I don't know how trusted that tool is), and HP USB disk storage format tool. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and what you all recommend? |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
fat32format is a great tool for formatting large drives.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Another question for those of you who have used an external hard drive with your PS3. Has anyone encountered any problems with external usb drives with no separate power supply?
That is, has anyone found any issues with the PS3 usb connection being unable to supply the necessary power for the external drive to spin up? And is there any risk of damaging my PS3 by drawing this power from the usb connection? |

No issues here.
And my resolutions: finish inFamous (bough it in release date) and Heavenly Sword... |

I do think it's awesomely hilarious that every 360 owner has more or less said "This looks like a really fun game" and every PS3 owner has said "This can't hold a candle to GOW."

I'm just glad that we finally got someone who has a PS3 and a 360 and who said he still is looking more forward to Dante's Inferno. As for me, since I don't have a PS3, I've decided to obstinantly insist that GOW sucks and Dante's Inferno is going to rock. Ready? Here we go: People who prefer God of War to Dante's Inferno are dumb-dumbs. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
I just got my PS3 a couple of weeks ago and played the Dante's Inferno demo and liked it a lot. All of the GOW comments did make me wanna pick up the combo pack though. So I'll probably be picking that up soon, I've never played them before so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

My 60G got the YLOD this weekend. Sony offered to upgrade me to the slim for $150. I'm waiting for my coffin now.

Has anyone had to send in a PS3 where they swapped out the Hard Drive? Just curious how Sony handles that situation. I would assume most people still might have the original drive, but what happens if you don't?
As for repairing a 60GB...I think it is more expensive...like $180 or something. I thought there was a report on one of those gaming sites. |

If you don't get that exact same unit back then your hdd will have to be formatted. I lost over 100gbs of information on my 320gb hdd when my PS3 got the YLOD last March. They sent me a refurbished unit and it had to be formatted for me to use it with this refurbed unit.

I had no idea that PS3s had a Yellow Light of Doom, but after hearing that, I'm starting to think that this generation of consoles was designed by Geoff Johns.

Ouch....I actually have been backing up my PS3 to my external 320GB drive. I could try to RESTORE if mine ever died.

Shouldn't the 'copy protection' not be an issue if you are logged in with the exact same PSN account? If not, Sony are doing it wrong.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Question: On the BD version of the movie District 9 it allows you to make a copy of the movie and transfer it to your PSP. Is it possible to share this PSP version of the movie much like you can share PS3 games?

If you backed it up and restored it to another unit then you would get back all of the data except for the game saves with copy protection and downloaded games. You would then have to redownload your downloadable games to your PS3 as well as any added on content like Rock Band songs, etc. It is a real pain in the ass if you ask me and Sony needs to make the hard disc drives system swappable.

Anyone else getting these weird errors when trying to access the "What's New" section and in the Playstation store icon under Games?

Can you explain a bit more about the game saves with copy protection? I thought with an external hard drive I'd be able to back up my game saves, possibly delete them from the PS3 hard drive if I run low on space, then restore them again from the external hard drive?
