It's not bad. Interesting take on The MMO

The download is massive. As for patches I've let PSPlus handle it late at night and It is not an issue

Thanks. Format did not delete account info, so I did that after. Also did the 'reset to default settings' so when it's turned on the next person gets the entire setup mode (language, video settings, etc).

Funny PS3 "quirk" about formatting, set it up for a full format overnight (estimated 10 hours) and I wake up to a dead controller and a final "hit X to reboot" screen. I plugged it in but wouldn't sync so I had to wait until I had a charge to do the final reboot.

You would think they'd program the controller to go to sleep while formatting, but I guess not.

In the system setttings, you can set the controller to go to sleep after X minutes of inactivity.

PS+ probably helps a lot. I quit playing before PS+. I would get some free time and decide to login for an hour only to find that I needed to wait an hour or two before I could even play lol

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

So I filled my PS3 hard drive this weekend, apparently, downloading free PS+ games. What do I do at this point? Switch out the HDD? Hook up a USB external HDD? Is it the saves? Too many saves? Should I do saves only in the cloud now?

Hooking up internal USB will not work. You could update your hard drive, which isn't hard, but you'd have to do a system backup to an external first and then restore after you upgrade (both of which take forever) or just redownload everything once you put the new drive in. How big is the HDD you have now?

Alternatively, if there's games you've downloaded that you know you're not going to be playing any time soon (or ever) you could just delete them. They can be redownloaded at any time as long as you're still a PS+ member.

Your game saves are tiny compared to the game installs. Deleting them and/or moving them to the cloud will buy you minimal space.

PS Plus members should ahve all their games automatically backed up to the cloud (assuming you've set your system up to do it). It's a godsend if your PS3 ever dies unexpectedly.

My problem with this is in order to do it, you need to setup your console to always automatically login as you when it starts up. I specifially have my PS3 setup to force you to choose a user to login as when you boot it up, because when I don't do that, the stupid shit my wife plays ends up on my trophy list (I've got a trophy from "Get Fit with Mel B" that I "earned" before I did this).

It's not exactly automatic. It'll prompt you the next time you play, but if you want to back up old saves on a game you haven't played for a while, you have to go through each game and flag the saves for cloud backup.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

So I have the disk for Uncharted 3, but I also got it free on PS Plus and would rather play it off my hard drive.

Anybody know whether I need to download the "Single Player 2D Movies" file along with the single player game? Is that the cut scenes?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

I also downloaded several of the Vita titles but I don't have a Vita (yet) so maybe if I transfer those to a USB jump drive then that would free up room, too, yes?

No need to transfer those files. Just delete them. They're still in your download history and you can re-download them onto your PS3 any time in the future when you do get one (or alternatively you could just download them directly to your Vita).

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Sweet, thank you for the tip. I assume that's for any of the games I downloaded, including any PS2 and PS3 titles via PS+ so I can also delete some of those to make room for other upcoming PS+ titles.

FYI, It's a 40 GB file for the Single Player game. If you have nearly unlimited HDD space go ahead; otherwise I'd stick with the disc.

Also some of the downloadable SCEA games with online passes have game saves that are incompatible with previous disc-based game save files. Don't know if Uncharted 3 is one, but I do know that R & C All 4 One, Sly Cooper HD and LBP Karting have incompatible game save files and progress in the disc version will not be reflected or recognized when you switch to a PSN copy of the same game.

Oh yeah, if you ever downloaded a title it'll be in your download history and available to re-download from your list, which is located under Account Management. That list is not sortable and can be a pain in the ass to browse through. Often times it's easier to go to the PSN store and search for the item there. There will be an option to re-download the game from the game page (instead of an option to purchase the game)

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

So let's say I convince my wife we need a PS4. You know, when they're down to $249 in a few years. Will I be able to get those PS+ games onto the PS4 if I only have them in my download history?

As long as they don't implement something like where you can only download PS4 games from a PS4, you should be able to purchase them on your PS3 or on the online store and you will always be able to redownload them as long as you're still a plus member.

Right now they answer is: We don't know.

We know that the PS4 won't play PS3 games "directly", i.e. it's not backwards compatible.
They have an streaming option that has been rumored they may use to play PS3 games. And some people hope they may allow you to play the digital games you bought in the PS3. So that's a lot of ifs there.

So if the planets align the answer may be yes. Since you are going to be waiting until the price is $249 you may be lucky. I guess you are keeping your PS3 and PS+.

Oh, are you talking about downloading PS4 games in your PS3? That's even harder to answer. I mean, again it's: We don't know.

But if we want to speculate, Sony, as an incentive to current PS3 PS+ people, may allow them to mark the games as "downloaded", so the games are ready when they upgrade.

This is true regarding current PS+ games. My previous response was meant to be regarding any PS4 games that are offered on PS+ between now and when he picks up a PS4.

This doesn't actually seem to be the case. There are 4-5 files in that 40GB bundle and most are Multiplayer. I'm not at home to see the breakdown, but I'm thinking the "Single Player Experience" was closer to 15ish GB, but there are also both 3D and 2D movie files in the 10ish GB range, which I'm thinking might be the cut scenes.

I would bet a lunch on it working this way...just like it does with the Vita.

I'm not sure. you can't "buy" ps3 games on your vita. the only reason you can buy vita games on the ps3 is because that is 1 method of getting the game onto you vita. but you should be able to do it on the online store to get them into your d/l list.

But you can "buy" all of the games in the online store...
