correct - you should not get prompted for an update.

I don't know if that update is still out there or not, but it's not being pushed (I've played the last 2 nights and I wasn't forced to update).

The update was removed. I turned om my system Wed afternoon for the first time in a good few weeks and had no update available.

Hey, is there a way to transfer saved game data from one PS3 to another? I want to start playing The Last of Us on my nephew's PS3 this weekend, and resume where I left off when I come back home.
My brief research yielded contradictory info:
- No, you can't do it because saved game data is tied to the PSN account.
- Yes you can, but you have to log into your own PSN account before you install/play the game on that "foreign" PS3
- Yes you can, but only if you have a PS+ account.
So, which is it?

You can copy save game data to a thumb drive but it's dependent on the game. Some lock the save to the system. If that's the case and you're a member of PSN+, you should be able to grab it from the cloud if you log yourself in on the other PS3.
I copied my Ni No Kuni save to a thumb drive and emailed it to a member here a few months back.

Depends on if the Last of Us is a locked save or not. Anyone have any idea?
If it's not locked, you can put it on a USB stick and take it anywhere, you probably should login to your PSN account on his PS3 just to make sure you can still play it when you transport it back (also so any trophies etc. will be tied to your account and not his).
If it's a locked save, you can only transfer it using the PS+ cloud.

Ok thanks, neither me nor my nephew has a PS+ account, so I guess I'll have to figure out if "The Last of Us" has locked saves or not.
Good idea. Maybe I'll install it on his PS3 and play it until the first save. Then exit and log into my PSN account and see if I can still play it.

OK, the new system update is out for the PS3. It's 4.46 and I just got hit up for the download. And much like 4.45, it went smoothly for me.
Sony also posted instructions on how to fixed bricked systems:

Alright, help me out. I'm gonna dump one of my Slims on Craigslist. What do I need to do to wipe the sucker clean? Just "format" it in the system settings? Does that take care of PSN account/CC info stuff too, or is there something else I need to do?

you need to de-authorize for both Games and Video. I'd delete the accounts too, format will probably do that, but just be safe.

Since Last of Us fell flat for me I finally decided to give Journey a spin.

It's beautiful and can be kind of a cool experience when you meet up with another traveller, but as an actual game, I think it's vastly over-rated and pretty boring (and short). It won several GOTY awards, including IGN's, and I really have no idea why.

Wait, The Last of Us fell flat for you? I'm the complete opposite right now, I can't stop thinking about it when I'm not playing it. How far are you (% wise)

Has anyone played DCUO? I'm not really an MMO guy, but I love DC. I'm thinking about trying it out.

I need more information than that. Why was it "sheer delight in video game form"? I want to know why everyone thought it was so great when it barely moved the needle at all for me. It just felt boring and uneventful -- a pretty landscape portrait I got to stare at for a few hours, with a few other museum patrons from time to time. I don't get the adulation and I never have.

Yeah, I'm obviously missing whatever everyone else "got" out of Journey. I loved Flower, but Journey? Whole big ball of 'meh.' I did like the MP aspect where you can't talk to your companion, but it felt like an unfinished game. The score was fantastic though.
Part me, part genre is to blame. Loved the story & presentation for the first few hours but I'm not a stealth fan. I'll tolerate it when games toss in a level or two but a whole game is tiresome. I'm playing the game for fun and the story and the game is punishing me for not playing it a certain way the developers intended.
The notion of clearing a room in a stealth game, only to fail in the last 10 seconds which results in sending you back 10-15 minutes to redo it all is antiquated design. Why don't stealth games have a rewind feature instead? I got stuck on the first Clicker room. I'd clear all 5, and fuck up in the next hallway. Go back, redo it and clear 4 and screw something up with #5. Start over. Clear the first 2 and the 3rd takes me by surprise. Start again. Okay, got all 5 again, try something different in the next hall and still fail. Start again. Not. Fun.
Take Tomb Raider, I'll play a chunk of it stealthily with the bow but I'm never punished for making a mistake and alerting another enemy.
I can't slight the game for it. I'm just not up to it.

I also didn't like Journey, but then I also wasn't a fan of Shadow of the Colossus (loved the concept, didn't care for the game). Last of Us was well produced but I agree that as a game, it left something to be desired.
