Seriously, you're talking about $50 for a year of service, or $4.17/month for 12 months of promotions like that. (Even less with the occasional deals, or essentially $45 right now at TRU if you also buy a $50 PSN card, a 4000 point card, or another year of Plus for another $45 as well). Also there's a ton of really good discounts (as opposed to, say, our buddies at Microsoft who decided that for this week's "Deal Of The Week" we Gold Members should qualify for 50% off Borderlands DLC....again). There's no way you don't get your money's worth unless you really hate games.
Even if you have no self control at all and buy almost everything right away (like me, for example) you still make out okay because they've been better with giving away some games like Awesomenauts and Rock of Ages last month as well as Virtua Fighter 5 this month for free the moment they debut on the PSN Store.
Corvin : Don't think of it like GameFly, think of it like Netflix streaming (if they had anything worth watching on Netflix streaming, that is). Do you not want Netflix because if you cancel your membership, you wouldn't be able to watch Netflix streaming any more? No, you enjoy it while you have it and complain that the selection of movies sucks.

I've been with PS+ since the beginning, I do t download everything but I do click download then back out. This way I can save room on my HD and anytime I want to start playing a game I can go in and download it.
#4028
also, if something is discounted on ps+ and you get it at the discounted rate, you keep it forever even after cancelling ps+.
#4029
I've had PS+ since the beginning also. Totally worth it IMO. They offer some pretty outstanding titles for free. And even if it's not free, almost everything is discounted for Plus members.
I'm psyched for InFamous2. I got the first one for free last year around this time. Fantastic game. Also in for LBP2, Lara Croft, and Ratchet & Clank.
I recommend Sideways as well if anyone doesn't have it. I paid $10 for it when it came out. It's a trippy little platformer.

Sweet, Glad I haven't sprung for InFamous 2 or LBP 2 yet. I do have an unopened copy of Just Cause 2 sitting in my pile, but I bought it on clearance, no big deal. I will probably just resell it now and download it.
Probably will download everything except SR2 (which I already have a free digital copy of, from buying SR3). And I still have a 1-year PS+ card that I bought for 14.39 when Target had that misprint in their ad last year which I haven't even redeemed yet. If this is just a taste of what to come, I'd say I'm going to get a hell of a lot of value for that 14.39 investment.

That's a good analogy except that I'd see the charge on my account at the end of the month wondering what the hell I watched. In the end that got dumped because I went a few months without using it at all. With an ever growing backlog of games already, I think PS+ would end up being like Netflix.Originally Posted by Decker

FWIW, the price seems reasonable for what you get.

Okay, well my other bit of advice, seeing as you have one free month of PS Plus, would be to wait until the final weekend of June. The weekend before the first Tuesday in July, the PS Blog will most likely announce the free games for July. If they sounded good, you could then activate your free month, grab all twelve of the June free games and then on the first Tuesday of July grab all the July free games. You'd have both months' games on your account for almost a whole month and have them available on your download list if you ever decided to re-activate your PS Plus account in the future.

Sounds like a plan.

I've also been Plus since the start mainly for the Qore 'issue' every month, and the occasional deal or freebie. I already own Infamous 2, LBP 2, Just Cause 2, Saint's Row 2, Sideways NY, and Lara Croft GoL from this batch, but this will give me a chance to try games I wouldn't have bought like Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, and Ratchet and Clank All 4 One.
Good thing I upgraded my 60GB to a 320GB drive a while back.

I'm down to about my last 20GBs of my 320 that I installed and I have deleted quite a bit of game data from games like Fallout 3 and older MLB The Show titles. I'm not sure what my next step will be. Backing up everything I have to swap the drives will probably take 24-48 hours to do.Originally Posted by Edison

I just deleted that space-hogging DC Universe Online. Thinking of deleting LBP and inFamous in favor of the sequels.

Yes to both. The games are tied to your Playstation Network account, not your console (this isn't Nintendo, after all). All games acquired from PS Plus appear in your download history as long as you are a PS Plus member (and re-appear if you lapse and later renew).
Anything you purchase with a PS Plus discount is yours to keep forever. Do keep in mind though that if you bought some DLC with a discount (like I did for Costume Quest and Stacking) for a game you got for free from Playstation Plus, that DLC is yours, but you won't be able to play it without buying the actual game or renewing your PS Plus
edit : For fun and confirmation, I just looked online at my Transaction History and found 1141 "Game items" (that includes demos, themes, games, DLC and unlock codes). That's what PS Plus can do to you if you take full advantage of it. I dread to think what it would be like to actually re-download even a bulk of that content. I wish they'd add a 360-like "Add To Download Queue" option. And background downloads while the system is powered off would be nice as well, but I doubt we'll ever get that.

awesome thanks for the info after reading this i went out and got a 3 month card.
so glad i didnt sign up for gamefly. and i dreaded going to ebgames just because anytime you buy something for ps3 they go on a rant how much better 360 is....oddly enough got to deal with to ps3 fans in my transaction which made things much easier
and you really need to watch evil dead 2

Now's a good time. Keep your eye on amazon warehouse deals, you can frequently find very good ps3's with 160 gb harddrives for 150 bucks or less.Originally Posted by starman9000

601 items here. Seriously how hard is it to let us filter the list and remove unwanted demos from the list?Originally Posted by Decker

And plus does have that option. Every day at 2pm (since I'm at work) my ps3 turns itself on, downloads my list, updates all my games and sync's my trophies. Then it turns itself off

The moment Sony announced they were offering LBP2, Saints Row 2 and the other games as free downloads for PSPlus members I booted up my PS3 and started to download them all. That was Tuesday afternoon I believe and after having my PS3 on since that time I still don't have 2 of the game fully downloaded. I will never understand how every other device on my internet connection runs to fast and my PS3 is running at 1/3 the speed of everything else.

the guy in the game department at best buy was like "I hear that psn is going to start charging for online play because they can't afford not to". Later he said he was "A die hard xbox fan".
Well that explains that. Probably makes him feel better paying for live if he somehow thinks psn is going to charge too.

Just for fun I did a search for psn charging for access and came across a funny as hell G4 thread where they specifically said that it WAS NOT taking away free access (when the ps+ picture got leaked) and we still had 3 pages of people whining and complaining that they would sell their ps3's if they had to pay for online. They are saying things like "You'll regret it if you do this sony". As if they are some terrorist that was going to bomb them if they charged for online play

Well I tried to play Choplifter HD. I need to download a 154MB patch before playing ( why they can't incorporate it into the game download is totally beyond me, BTW). I'm currently 12% done and told I have 28 minutes left, and can't download the patch in the background. I love many things about the PS3, but this is certainly not one of them.

i personally would skip the patch for now, you just can't be online while you play if you skip it. Then just set ps+ to download your updates later and it will turn on your system and update everything for you thenOriginally Posted by Decker

I agree though, no patches in the background is kind of shitty. Sideways NY has an 800 meg patch.

Just make sure if your ps3 breaks, you call in to support to de-authorize your old unit. You can only use downloads on 2 PS3s (down from 5), so you don't want to waste one on a broken unit. you can de-authorize manually, if your unit is still working.Originally Posted by terrycloth
