Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Tried Amazon Prime Video on PS3 and I'm not as impressed as I've been hoping it would be.

- I like the distinction between SD and HD videos. It's clear and appreciated.
- There's no instant queue for users to add their free prime videos to a play list for later.
- Finding videos is difficult even with the search function which doesn't seem to find the titles I'm looking for or at least offers them as an option far down the list.
- The search function doesn't have a separation between free and pay videos. While I understand the business side of this, it's frustrating to me since at this time I'm looking for free videos.
- The fast-forward option isn't in real time and makes it difficult to navigate through a video.

My context is as a current Netflix and Hulu subscriber. Right now, the interface simply can't offer what these services do and it's a bummer.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Fuck Prime. How about a streaming pile of Porn on your PS3.

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2012/04/...vice-lands-ps3

Adult video streaming company SugarDVD is expanding its service with a new app for the PlayStation 3. The saucy adult video service is already available on ROKU, BOXEE, and Google TV. For around $8 a month adult users can watch unlimited streaming titles divided up amongst various categories (which we're not going to mention here). There are also DVD and streaming combo packages, with the most expensive plan - 8 DVDs out at a time and unlimited streaming - for about $40 a month. All the plans include 20 Free VOD (video on demand) minutes, the company's adult pay-per-view service.

IGN has a short video report on it here where they giggle like teenagers about the idea of being able to watch porn on a console. Depending on your definition of "safe for work" this video probably falls in that category.

While pornography remains a taboo subject on its own, having access to it on a home console through a service similar to how Netflix operates might be too much for politicians and moral advocacy groups to resist waging a full assault on it. On the other hand, adults that want to watch adult content and pay for it should have the right to do so.

As long as we don't see ads for it on the PlayStation Blog or the console itself...

I won't believe it until I see it.

I just watched the IGN video, well, duh! It's just a "portal" that you access through the PS3 web browser. And of course has been available for a long time.

So there's no app like Netflix, Vudu or something like that.

20 minutes of free vod?

That's at least 40 fapping sessions. Should be enough for most people.

No sarcasm at all. I played that game on my PS1 and loved it. Your taste is horrible.

Legend of Dragoon got excellent reviews, but I never got around to playing it, I might check it out on PSN.

LoD is one of my favorite PS1 RPG's. It was nothing ground-breaking but it had a damn good battle system and an engaging story. I'd pick it up on PSN if I didn't still have the original copy.

Does one have to be a PS+ member for that sale? 'Cause I'd go ahead and get those games at that price but I'm not a PS+ member.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

So we're moving into a new place and I'm wondering what to do about how to connect the PS3 to the Internet. In our old place, we had an ethernet cable going straight from the modem to the PS3 because they were in adjoining rooms. But now the computer and the modem will be downstairs in the basement and the PS3 will be on the first floor in the living room. My two options seem to be either find a way to thread an ethernet cable upstairs (daunting, plus we're renting so I don't really feel like drilling holes in the floor or anything) or use the PS3's wifi connection.

Does the PS3 do online multiplayer and Hulu/Netflix streaming just as well with a wifi connection as it does connected via an ethernet cable?

If it doesn't, does anyone have suggestions on how to get the ethernet cable from the basement to the first floor?

Thanks.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

I've had no issues streaming media over wifi with my PS3. As long as your router is current and you're within range, it shouldn't be a problem.

You could also try one of those extenders that use power cables/plugs to transmit the broadband signal. I've read that those work well too.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

I've only ever used mine with WiFi, and the only problems I had with it were when I was using an 802.11b router. I upgraded to an 802.11g router shortly thereafter and have had zero problems with it.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Can anyone recommend whether it's worth picking up a cooling fan for our PS3 160GB slim? If so, do you have a recommended brand?

I've had games freeze here and there, assuming it's because of some overheating, when it was on all day and considering how much work it was to convince my wife we "need" a PS3 as our blu-ray player, I don't want to end up giving it the YLOD because I play games so much.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting. Not sure if it's real or not, but based on that it's going to play PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 discs.

If that pic is true and it will be backwards compatible with all their other systems then I know where I'm going next gen.

If it is truly BC, then I'll probably sell my 60gb PS2-BC PS3 as soon as it is confirmed. It's just collecting dust and I'm too scared to actually turn it on for risk of it failing. Let that happen on someone else's watch.

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but do we know what "Iris" and "Omni" are in the controller input section?

Since it shows a sony tablet and an xperia play, maybe they're phones. Who'd want to play a game with a phone though is anyones guess.
