Maybe it will be like the original controller for the PS3, remember that? People complained/laughed so much, that they just went back to other model.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
The companies think that getting rid of the used market is going to make them more money, but I guarantee that won't be the case. Not only will the systems sell like shit, less systems = less game sales, but I can tell you that if i get a next gen system (IF), I won't pay more than 10 bucks for a retail game. If I can't sell it then I'm not paying full price. I'll wait for a sale 3 weeks later. And I can bet that half the people out there will do the same. The new game market will crash and they'll either have to lower the prices of new games, or just let them sit on shelves and clearance them out.

I can't wait to see the revolutionary new controller design for the PS4.

You know what? They should totally announce exactly that just to watch the world implode. The Internet is full of snarky assholes, but they never think the other side is capable of it.

But the PS3 uses a standard laptop HDD w/o a special enclosure. There is no way that the ps4 won't have large internal storage. Sony, more than microsoft, is definitely moving towards all titles being available digitally.

"won't be backwards" compatiable I was taken aback and wanted to see what the feelings of the PS3 crowd and possibly future buyers have to say. If anything game devs are probably shaking their head worried about sales till the next gen console hits the shelves. Sorry to hear this....
I think the used games issue is a bad idea. To not alow it completely is dumb. I think what could work would be to limit multiplayer games so that consumer's could at least try them out to see if they would like them. Without a code you have one hour of game time to get a taste. This would also make it so that developers would have to put out a quality multiplayer experience and noit some tacked on bullshit. For single player games - go with Day 1 DLC that is free with the paid retail version and costs money to unlock for renters or used purchasers. Yeah people will complain but hey you pay less you get less. But once again Sony/developers needs to step up and offer a demo before the games release date. None of this crap where a demo is available only after a games release. And lets get some variable pricing not every game is worth 60 bucks. I have no problem shelling out full price for CoD or Skyrim as long as Bubba's Country Shooter isn't the same frickin price. |

I like the specs -Sony hardware is solid. I could care less about backwards compatibility. Sony doesn't dump off their old hardware once the new stuff comes out. I think there are still some new games that come out for the PS2 so I am pretty sure they will support PS3 for a few years.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Well, the lack of backwards compatibility is disappointing, but the current rumor is that it will have an x86 processor instead of the Cell: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...=related_right.
That should make it much easier for developers, but it rules out BC with the PS3, unless they could include the PS3's hardware inside with the new hardware. That's probably not feasible either, especially as it looks like they want to keep the costs down this time. I would think that PS2 emulation would be possible on the new system, if they wanted it, but it wouldn't allow the HD collections to work because they've been coded specifically for the PS3. BTW, is it time for a next gen console news/rumors thread? I feel like we're hijacking the PS3 news. |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Color me surprised that the PS3 beat the Xbox to something like this. Good news though. I have Prime but I have yet to use their service since I usually use Netflix to stream stuff.
As far as the PS4 not being Backwards Compatible, I don't care. I thought I cared with this generation and then I found that I never used it on my old PS3 or my 360. My friends were all the same as well. They cared until they got the new system but then they only wanted to play new games and the old games were with sitting on a shelf forgotten or were traded/sold. |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
There's a buffer zone where back-compat is nice and that's the first year (or so) of the console's life. After that no one looks back, but during that year when game releases are sparse it's a great feature to have.
Just think at the 360 launch, there was no Halo game. Without back-compat that means keeping the original Xbox hooked up for two years while while waiting on Halo 3. Does a company want a chunk of their largest group of buyers (Halo fans in this example) sitting on the sideline while waiting on the next-gen version of that franchise? I find it funny that Sony basically pioneered backwards compatibility, and are single handedly killing it too. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
How does Amazon Prime compare to Netflix and Hulu? If I already use Netlifx, Hulu and HBO GO is there any reason at all why I would need Amazon Prime?

The fairly limited amount of free streaming content is a nice bonus, but not worth $80 a year imo. |

Anyway, I tested out the first episode of Fringe yesterday and I was amazed by the sound and picture quality. Hopefully, HBO Go comes to PS3 soon, I'm disappointed with the Xbox HBOGo app because it lacks 5.1 sound. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Eh. I have Prime and I tried it on my PS3, but I keep getting the "unable to calculate connection on your device" message, so I guess it's completely useless to me. Oh well - all the stuff on Prime that I like, I already own anyways.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Excluding DRM from the conversation, BC won't care if it's a disc-based game or a downloadable game. It's all about the new system being able to accurately emulate the old system. Hardware changes generation to generation. CPU commands, GPU commands, memory access, API calls, etc, etc, etc. If every one of those components is itself capable of BC directly, there's usually little problem. If something isn't, then it's up to the software emulator (the PS4, in this case) to not only translate that stuff but be fast enough to keep up in a satisfactory manner (you see, software is much slower than hardware and this is why sometimes emulators are more than a generation behind).
The PS3 actually launched with PS2 hardware inside it could access for such things, but this was removed for cost purposes to compete with the 360 and Wii early. |
