I'm gonna hate to update the new dash. I really like the current one and really wish MS would let us choose a Dashboard instead of being stuck with only one choice

the Undead Nightmare theme from RDR and Batman: Arkham Villians theme make things look much more pleasing on Dashboard.

I thought it was funny that they don't want me to open it because I might get banned (I wouldn't) as opposed to them getting a fine for breaking street date. I wonder if since I'm in the beta dashboard if it could load and not lock down the system as reported by other users.

Since you got this early, is the black and red tiger code and the plush code from the LE just a tag that you scan or is there actually a 360 code that you need to redeem?

I haven't opened the package yet because I don't want to get banned.

However, I do know that the plush code is a tag that you scan. I'm not sure about the black and red tiger pre-order bonus.

I dislike the new update a bit as well. A beta between the last one and this one would of been a nice compromise.

I swear to god, every single time I put in a game, I have to update. It doesn't matter if I switch back and forth from Gears of War 2 to Rock Band 3 - there's an update. Did they reduce the storage allocated to patches to be just 5mb or something?

i don't think there is, but is there anyway to get rid of some of the menus? i know i can get rid of the "Welcome" menu tabs, but can you customize for the rest to reduce them all?

I noticed that too. It was happening to me prior to the new dashboard update, so I don't know what changed. It never used to do this before.

No problem here currently, but I did have that happen a few months back.

Welcome to my world, I've had this problem for about a year now. Total pain in the ass. Especially as of the new dashboard update, patches seem to take way longer to download. Hopefully at least that improves.

This reminds me... Am I the only one who has a Gears of War 2 disc that gives disc read errors when trying to start the game? It takes me a dozen or so tries to get the game started. I have to eject the disc multiple times in hopes that the 360 will recognize the disc.

Microsoft's solution was to send them $20 to replace the defective disc. I suppose this is what I get for selling my original Gears of War 2 disc that actually worked and "upgrading" it with the GOTY edition that came with the map pack codes.

Would it really be so bad to give us an interface to these patches? Just a spot where we could manually throw away the ones we don't need anymore. Or, and this is just crazy talk, a way to mark a patch as "important" or "do not delete" because we know that's a game we're constantly going back to?

I'm just afraid that there's a 44mb ESPN and 44mb Last.fm "patch" in that area, mucking it all up.

I was trying to make out with my wife on Fable 3, and the new dashboard was getting very confused as to who was using which controller.

So I watched the video about what's new with the new dashboard... is the 99.99 Live sub for up to four family members limited to only one box, or can it be shared with actual family members on other consoles? If it's the former, who in the world pays for separate live accounts for everyone in the house, when DLC is limited to one account?

When my daughter is a little older I would buy into this. Might as well get my wife an account for essentially free. I would then probably link my wife's account to my Netflix and move her account between locations on a memory stick and leave my account just for gaming.

As for DLC, if you have a Gold/Silver account that did not buy the DLC and it is playing on the same machine in which the DLC was purchased then they can play it. Example: My daughter has a local account (not even silver). She can play all my XBLA games because the licenses were transferred to my current console.

Wait what? Patches that get downloaded are in a stack that gets popped off if you don't play that game often? Wtf.

That's how it's always been told to us. My stack is currently one-deep, however.

While we're talking about patches, why do 360 patches download in seconds while PS3 patches are all (apparently) hundreds of megs and take much longer to install?

Not a console-bash, just an observation. I've never had a huge update on the 360, and I've never had a small update on the PS3.

I beleive so and I beleive it is tied into the wonderful decision to make a hard drive optional when the system first came out.

It's also why a lot of random issues can be resolved by clearing your system cache, which I just had to do, blech.

Yeah, that's how I've always heard it was, however right now I'm only playing three games, and even just switching between them I'll have to redownload patches. Hell, I swear there have been times when even just playing the same game after power-cycling the system I have to now patch again.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Family Pack sounds like a great deal for friends too: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/JoinLive/FamilyPackFAQ

Q: What if you have someone that leaves the household – for example a child who leaves for college? Are they still a part of the Family Pack?
A: Yes, if a Family Pack member leaves home to go to college, he can simply recover his account on a different console and will still remain a part of the Family Pack, as long as he resides in the same country as the Primary account holder.

Q: I have multiple consoles in my family. Is my family limited to only one of those consoles?
A: To be added to a Family Pack, a person’s Xbox LIVE account must be on the same console as the Primary account holder. Once they are a part of the Family Pack, that person could recover their account on a different console and still remain a part of the Family Pack, as long as they reside in the same country as the Primary account holder.

Q: Could a group of friends or roommates share a Family Pack?
A: The Family Pack is really designed for families. Only the Primary account holder may make purchases against the Primary account holder’s billing account. The Primary account holder will also receive Activity reports, and have the ability to access online settings for other members in the Family Pack. As a result, Family Pack may not work well for groups of friends or roommates.
Awesome

So....

A: Yes, but we'll think you a total douche.
