I can see me buying into that. Maybe not for a year or two, but I like the direction.

Absolutely.

In a couple years my daughter will probably want her own account. Having controls over it would be nice. Then for the cost of our two accounts I could also get one for my wife and just let her gamertag sit on a second console so we have Netflix on more than one TV.

That is a good idea for families with two older kids. For my two, it would be worthless.

I wish there was a way to keep the kids from accidently buying stuff. When they turn on the Xbox, they're sidned into my account and I'm always worried my 4 yr old will accidently buy something expensive that I don't want (or non-accidently buy something like when he saw my avatar dressed up like Buzz Lightyear yesterday). No way to password-protect purchases like in the itunes store (and PSN store), is there?

You can turn off auto sign in. That may help.

I wonder if you can "grandfather" family members into using content purchased by the main account on any Xbox. Something like my kids being able to play my XBLA games on either of my Xboxes or even at their mother's house. That would seal the deal for me, especially with how many games requiring digital rights I have.

I'm gonna be the skeptic and say that won't happen. :(

The release says something about the master account being able to distribute MS points to the other accounts as well as manage all their purchases. I am assuming that means a child account can flag something to buy but the master account has to approve.

Something like that would be awesome because then I could use some points as a reward and let her choose how to spend them. Also would be nice to snag discounted points here and there and then distribute them as needed.

Overall - a good program.

Seriously.

My little one loves to play Sealife Safari and Rock Band. She also gets a kick out of playing dress-up with the avatar.

Yeah, but the problem is that neither the kids or the Mrs can actually figure out how to sign in themselves and their game files for Lego Star Wars and such are signed into my account. (Hence I'm unlocking achievements like "Shoot 1000 droids" without actually having to play the game). Seriously, in the scope of things, how hard would it be to optionally password protect purchases?

^ Does that not fall under the umbrella of Parental Controls with that PIN?

In other news: I just got my text from Splading (shot3 to 74139) with my 800 point token!

Come on now. Scott is capable of signing himself in to game - I have faith your wife and kids can also do the same.

 Completely unnecessary!

 Maybe Scott has auto sign-in enabled.

Besides, I don't know. My wife was at home with the kids last week and best as I can tell, when my daughter asked to watch Horton Hears A Who on Blu Ray, my wife placed that BR disc in two DVD players, the HD-DVD player and the 360 before trying the PS3. She's a smart lady and does a great job running my business, but she's not exactly a "gaget person".

As long as you can take existing Xbox Live accounts and move them into the family account, I'm all for it.

Well I'd say set up their own Silver accounts but it sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too.

The price you pay for those achievements is the occasional accidental purchase. ;)

Despite being given the "you've already won" text from Spalding for the past few days, my gf just won 800 points! Let's see if I can rope my brother into doing this.

how are you winning? I just tried to enter the Spalding "4g Sprint" contest again and it says I've already entered.

This was a different promotion. That "4g sprint" one was a one-time entry only.

Thanks TLwizard! :D

Congrats! Glad it's helped some people out

And actually my phone just won as well despite getting the "You've already won" response for weeks now. Go figure. 1600 points in total, hooray! (Although 800 of those will have to be devoted to gf friendly stuff. PJ Winterbottom?)

And for those who need reminding: Text "shot3" to 74139 for a chance to win 800 MS points!

Thanks, i was wondering where you guys kept winning points from

How often can you text and is "shot3" the only thing to text?

I usually don't do stuff like this but fuck it, I need more FREE Shit in my life.

You can send shot1, and shot2, but they always "miss." Just send a text once a day and they tell you if you won the previous week on Monday or Tuesday. That's 3 of us that have won 800 points now, 4 if you count Wizard 2x.

I got the text today too--and then right after I redeemed it realized I should have taken TLwizard up on his offer the other day for a Toy Soldiers code for an 800-point code. Oh well. Thanks.
