re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Is anyone using PS3 MEDIA SERVER to stream files to their 360? I have it set up on my PC and my hardwired PS3 works fine, and I have a hardwired 360 that works fine, but I also have a 360 in my bedroom and the streaming stutters often.
My setup is as follows: WRT54G router on main computer. I have it hardwired to a 2nd WRT54G that is set up as a wireless access point (it is closer to my upstairs 360). I have a Wireless N adapter on my 360 (I got it cheap), but I realize I'm only using G speeds. Anyways, my SIGNAL on the 360 upstairs is all 3 bars on the 360 Network config. Although, I still receive the stuttering...any suggestions? I was thinking of upgrading 1 of my routers to a D-LINK DIR-655 (or something comparable), and then shutting off the wireless on my other router and just use it as a switch. I'm curious if the Wireless N would really help.... Or, are there settings on the PS3 media server to tweak? |

What kind of content are you streaming? 720p should work ok but 1080p material will probably stutter over wireless.

When it's stuttering for me I just use the transcoded version, and that always works fine, wireless. Each folder should have a transcode folder, that contains the same files but they are transcoded. At least that's the case for my PMS running on linux.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I've been streaming some 720 content. The thing that really stutters are DVD movies that are located in a VIDEO_TS folder. I'll try the TRANSCODE folder to see if that works better.
If not, I may upgrade my network to Wireless N |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
AVI(most) and WMV(all) need no transcoding. MKVs can be easily streamed over Windows Media Center now. If you are a windows person, there is virtually no need for 3rd party software now. And a 1080p WMV-HD file will be around 6-12gigs depending on sound compression and movie length, and it will definitely stutter over wireless, and there is no transcoding needed.

Hmmm, I never bothered with WMC. I wonder if I should set it up for my XBOX. I played around with it in the past, but never bothered to set it up. I'm assuming you just have to assign folders that you want to share in it?

Sweet! I just won 400 points from Dr Pepper with the new Iron Man 2 promotion. I was hoping to win one of the 5 Million Premium themes they're giving away for 7th Prizes, but won one of 100 400 Point codes for 8th Prize. Strange. Anyway, nice promo and I predict I'll be grabbing a lot of free Diet Dr Pepper from the hospital these next two months. :)
After I win my first Premium theme (which I hope is an Iron Man 2 theme, not a Dr Pepper one), I'll give away any further winning theme codes in this thread. |

Very nice! I would just be happy knowing their source for MS points if the ARV of 400 is only $2.50!

I got a Dr Pepper Iron Man 2 theme, but it looks like it's just a Premium ad for the soda:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wjY90h11HS0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wjY90h11HS0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> I'll have more codes for these if anyone wants one. Speaking of Dr Pepper Premium themes, apparently this Dr Pepper theme is actually the regular Battlefield Bad Company 2 Premium theme that they're charging 240 points for. I can't check it out now, but someone else could. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/ga...-d802585708a0/ |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
So I had a red ring of death in my Elite last night.
I hadn't used my Elite in a couple of weeks or so, so it hasn't been updated with the latest firmware. It's connected to a projector, through a HDMI switch, it's not a complicated setup but it's not simple either. So I turn it on, and I get sound but no video. I try different workarounds and finally decide to try to turn it off and turn it on again to see if it works. No luck. And somehow I can't even turn it on with my controller anymore. So I unplugged from the back and plug it back again, finally! It works, that's when I see that I need to install the new firmware, so I do that. Everything goes perfect. I start playing The Saboteur. I mean, I load the Saboteur. It loads the game the fine, continues from my last save. So I'm in the game, and have to open a door, to open a new map, it shows a loading screen and bam! almost like an explosion, the Xbox 360 turns off and shows me the three red lights. I'm speechless, I can't believe it. I have never had a red ring of death. So, just to be 100% sure I check the three red lights that are on and go to wikipedia if that's really an RROD, and yeah, it is. So I start reading the description and reach this part: This error code is usually caused by failure of one or more hardware components, although it can indicate that the console is not receiving enough power from the power supply, which can either be due to a faulty power supply or if the power supply cable is not fully inserted into the console. So yeah, I'm dumb and was already thinking on what kind of console I was going to get to replace it. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
That's funny. I've never heard of that error message before. Of course now you've jixed yourself and a RRoD is probably just around the corner.

I've got two more now if anyone wants one. I'll keep churning them out apparenly since every time you enter a code and it says "Sorry, You didn't win", it still gives you another one. |

I love me some Dr. Pepper, but I can't picture myself having a theme dedicated to it everytime I boot up my system.
