Man, I can't believe some people are such suckers that they'd actually spend good money on something as trivial as an avatar costume!

Spoiler:

To be fair, my son made me get this.

So I got an E79 code today. Is this the gateway to the 3 RROD? Microsoft won't honor a 3 year warranty unless it's the 3 RROD or E74. What a crock of shit... my console is 1 1/2 years old. Nice quality product Microsoft!

The StarWars avatar stuff costs money? I just assumed they were free since I saw no mention of prices - I was thinking of the Wookie head, but not now.

The costumes are 320 points each and surprisingly they are just sold as a costume set -- you can't take the helmet off, which is a bummer. The pet tauntaun is 240 points. And yup, the Lightsaber is 400 points still. That's where I drew the line.

It's Yoda's saber. Is it half-height like in the movie and equally tacked on for no practical purpose? Oh, wait... I know the answer to that last one already.

Found this with a google search here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726 :

E79: Dashboard Error - Couldn't start xam.xex: probably a file system corruption, it could also be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it.

Thanks. I've done some digging too and my hard drive works fine on a 2nd 360 system that I have. The Elite won't boot up at all w/out the hard drive -- so that tells me it's the console itself. I'm just not sure if I should pry the thing open now and try clean it out are try the penny trick.

Or don't. It's just a very ugly non-premium theme with the game's launch date. Disappointing.

Okay. I have not heard of anyone winning from the GM promotion I listed earlier. i will keep trying and report back if I do win (or someone wins.) However, here is a new promotion. This one is enter once daily. Winners announced weekly. (The same terms for that previous promotion that people won so many points from.)

This one is sponsored by Spalding. You can win 800 points each week!

Text shot1, shot2 or shot3 to 74139. If your first shot misses, you can take another shot. Once you make your shot, that counts as your chance for the day.

Yesterday and today I have "made my shot" with shot3.

Well just got the e74 error with a quarter red ring. I'm out of the warranty period so I'm going to go out and purchase another one in the next week or so.

Regarding data transfer from the hard drive, what needs to be done to bring everything over to the new hard drive. I've heard of the data transfer cable that you can use but just wondering if there is anything I should watch out for or to keep in mind.

How do you know you're out of warranty? Did you call them? Unless you just want to buy a new one no matter what, I'll bet even if you are truly OOW, they'll still fix it for free.

The last 360 that gave me an "Error" and red lights was OOW according to their site, but when I called they had no problem doing it for free.

I bought it in oct 06 from costco of all places but i will give it a shot and see what ms says. I got the old 20g so I figure if I have to get a new one it'll be one of the upgraded models with less issues that these older ones have.

It's worth a try. If they try to charge then just do what you were going to do.

I won't be popular for pointing this out, but Costco allows returns of game consoles at any time for any reason. If you still have the packaging and all the components of the bundle, you can return it there for a full refund of your purchase price. It may not seem "right" to some people to "take advantage" of Costco, but it's their rules you'd be following.

I don't see anything bad about that. That's why you are paying a membership. Unless I'm really sure, what I've done in the past is just ask, I don't bring anything, I just go to CS and show my receipt and ask if I can return it, if it's covered under their "warranty". I've only done that one or two times and they have said yes.

Imsoniac Games (Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance) is going to develop a game for the Xbox 360.

Wow. That's almost as much of a shock as Bungie's recent deal was. They're a great development studio and have never let me down.

Yea, I done it with smaller items but nothing like this before and feel a bit icky about it. My main concern is transferring my data over.

My 360 just Red Ringed too. I'm gonna go pick up an Arcade til i get my Elite back. I just had it fixed in December too. :(

After this one died on me i sent it in for repair and went out and bought another one. The new one just died this morning and i can't find the fricking receipt for it. I'm hoping Wally World will just let me switch the system out for another one and let me keep the hard drive so i don't lose all my saves/DLC.

Why not back up all of your saves to a USB drive just in case? All DLC can easily be re-downloaded, even if it might take a while.
