The major thing of any import is that MS has given themselves a lot more room for ads, wheee!

Gears of War 3 Season Pass is 1200 points for the next 24 hours (they're having a Season Pass daily special until the 10th). Great deal for a lot of content for those who don't yet have any of it.

anyone recommend a good headset/mike? my buddy says he can never hear me on the newer black MS one. i think it's him, not me, but i'm willing to try another one. i see they have bluetooth ones but the reviews are all over the board. i don't want a full headset, though, since i listen through my home theater. something similar to the MS wired one with one ear speaker is perfect.

I had the exact same problem with the black MS wireless one. My friend has the COD3 one and it works fine, but he couldn't hear me at all. I ended up getting this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00 and I really like it so far. It seems better built than the MS wired one. I put the mic right up on my mouth though.

What is with Microsoft and all of their pointless updates? My XBOX usually collects dust; but on the rare occasion that I do plug it in, there's always some useless update that I need to install

I would buy this, but fucking kinect. Pass.

so i bought this today at Fry's for $15. so far, it's pretty nice. my buddy said he can hear me better. i don't think the MS one is bad, but i think the mike arm is too short, so the mike isn't near my mouth, causing the issues. thanks for the recommend.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Hey, it's something. I wonder if it's started now or in October?

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/28/xb...irthday-gifts/

Xbox Live Rewards is now gifting players by giving them rebates on Marketplace purchases, based on their Gamerscore. Gold members with more than 25000 Achievement Points get 2% back (in Microsoft Points) on Xbox Live purchases made each month. Gold members with more than 10000 APs get a 1% rebate, while all Gold members with 3000+ APs get a "special gift" in the months of their birthdays. We do note the fine print says the gift has an approximate retail value of 25 cents. But it's the thought that counts, right?

Microsoft teased a tie-in between Achievements and Xbox Live Rewards earlier this year, and now the company's made good on that tease. Still, we'd like to see those die-hard players with more than 50K or 100K worth of APs get some properly sizable rewards, something like 5 and 10% rebates respectively. At that rate we suppose Microsoft would have to reward the guy working up to one million APs with everything on the Marketplace. Which he must already own anyway.

Finally to note, Gold members must sign up to the Xbox Live Rewards scheme to get the bonuses. Otherwise you'll have to make do with measly real-life birthday presents.

I'm at about 7,000 after six years. I look forward to my 25 cent reward in March.

I almost forgot how many achievements I got. I'm at 65000. So I should be getting 1300 points?

You don't get a one-time 2% conversion on your gamerscore. You get a monthly 2% rebate on what you spend. Reading is fundamental

My first thought was "man, I could have waited to buy all the RB tracks that went on sale." Then I realized I would have gotten about a dollar rebate.

Also, my birthday was just last month. So I'll have to wait nearly an entire year to get my awesome special gift. Can't wait to be older!

So did anyone have to re-sign in to Live after the latest update?

I have to say that given the length of time it took to install that update I was more than a bit concerned when it rebooted and didn't sign back in right away.

Agreed. But I'm glad they're being pro-active about security.

From the FAQ:
What horror related Marketplace items qualify for this offer?
A. Horror related Zune movies, TV shows, Avatar items, Game Add-ons, Themes, Games on Demand, or Arcade Games. Eligible movie content can be found here. Eligible games are horror-themed, like Left 4 Dead 2, Resident Evil 5, or The Walking Dead, and any Avatar items, Game Add-ons or Themes that go with them. Movies and TV Shows must be purchased from Zune Video; purchases from other apps will not qualify. If you aren't sure if an item qualifies for this offer, please make a new post in our support forums.
2,000 points is a lot, but it also covers a large number of titles. Combined with potential Halloween-themed sales, it's a possibility.
