new dash sucks balls....

Having used it for a while now...being part of the beta...it just will not grow on me...is slow as shit....I have had many crashes...all the apps suck....they messed up the black/white level on it...http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/g...px?PageIndex=1

I hate it. I don't think they did anything right with this one...

I have little faith Xbox is going to figure this one out...

The success of the Kinect is going to kill the next gen xbox...They think they hit a home run...playing to a larger group instead of focusing on the core gamer. I guess I can't blame them because of how many systems they are still selling...but I think that

1:Because of the success... the next gen will include kinect as part of the system

2:Because of cost the next console will cut corners on RAM/something to keep price right (100 bucks for the video kinect hardware coming at the expense of core power)

3:Microsoft thinks that they will sell more systems because while weaker it plays to a bigger audience

The problem is the core gamer who picked xbox over the wii does NOT want a family system...and even IF they have a kinect it might be because they have kids...NOT because they love it.

The new dashboard is designed for the kinect....even if you have NO FUCKING plans to get one...it is there in your face. Before, the worst you had to deal with is the inability to demo or play kinect games...Now there is no way to avoid kinect...Microsoft has shoved it down your throat and up your ass and you are not even getting paid for it....

I'm pretty sure it's already confirmed that the next system will have kinect built into it.

the current kinect hardware is not that expensive to make. most of the cost is the fact that it's an accessory and it qualifies as a high margin item for a reseller like best buy.

most likely the next gen kinect will be integrated into the x-box hardware itself and have it's own CPU for a lot of functions

as far as hardware we had a huge jump in supported resolutions from the late 1990's to a few years ago when we went from OTA to digital, dvd quality and now 720p/1080i/1080p. and we went from CD to DVD to blu-ray at least in the PS3. but since the resolutions have been stable the last few years the hardware required won't have to be that much of a jump compared to previous new console generation releases

when the PS3 came out you needed fast CPU's to play back blu ray. now any cheap CPU will do it. the drives themselves are cheap now. Flash is a lot cheaper. a lot of the parts in this new generation will actually be cheaper than the last gen

I do not really care for the new dashboard either. And sorry, I don't care how much they show it down my throat for this generation, I refuse to get a kinect. I agree I probably will not have a choice next generation (if I even go there at this point) but I'll deal with that when I get to it.

I don't understand why Microsoft can't just let us choose instead of forcing us into a new dashboard. It can't be that hard to keep up a couple of designs. I'm certainly not asking for any "new features", I just want to be able to get to my games quickly one way or another. Ugh.

I really like the dash for the most part. Despite if feeling like there are more ads, it's just a cleaner layout.

I do hate the giant center ad, but that's a given, nobody wants that. My only gripe thus far is how slow the tab browsing is from left to right. The way the bumpers/triggers worked in the old layout made zipping through the dash a breeze. Tapping LB & RB to tab left and right just isn't smooth.

YouTube works great. iHeartRadio works great. DailyMotion works great...except that it seems MS locked out adult content from DailyMotion.

One complaint I don't understand is the hatred for Bing. I LOVE it. I'd say within 3 letter inputs I find what I want either on my system or on the Marketplace. The alphabet at the top zips along nicely, it simply needs the "space" be a controller button press instead of a virtual button. It seems way faster than simply waiting for my games library to populate. After the online Marketplace launch, I basically abandoned the dashboard Marketplace, it's just too clunky on the console. Bing has improved that immensely and I've found myself just using Bing to find demos/games now instead of queuing them up online. I'd go as far to say that Bing is easily the best new feature.

 I got both emails. I wonder if the free month works online yet? (update: it did! Expiry Date:5/26/2014) I'm way too lazy to type that into the console.

The thing is I think Microsoft will target 2 price points for the launch of the next xbox..

If they plan on including the next level of kinect in with even the entry level system, that is a cost... no matter how little..added to the system. Most systems launch at or below cost. When you get right down to it, if they have to decide between family features or an extra gig of ram...they are going to go with less ram...or a little slower/weaker cpu...

Same here. I got the free t shirt on my e mail address that is connected with paid Live acct and the free month of live to my other junk e mail acct (which I don't even know how since I don't remember using it for anything)

I got both emails too, but got the shirt first and received the 1 month a day later. I'm gold already and have been for 7-8 years.

-screwy- I don't get the complaints about the new dashboard. I think it's fine. I haven't had any problems with it crashing or freezing as some here have said. And yes, I have a Kinect and I like the Voice activated interface with it.

The only thing I don't like is the new interface for Netflix. I occasionally use it to catch some older titles and old TV shows like Mission Impossible or Hawaii Five-O. Once you click on the TV title icon that you want to see, it will automatically play episode 1 of the 1st season, you have to shift through every single season while episode 1 is playing to find the one you want to watch.

Got both emails as well. The one with the 1 month code just came about 15 min ago, so they're still going out.

Thought I might have finally gotten the Free Month of Live email, but when I checked the new email, it was something almost as cool:

Today's Bing holiday offer is one month of Xbox Live Gold membership for free. It's only for non-Gold members, though.

Speaking of Bing, anyone still doing the Rewards thing? I've been pretty diligent and recently accumulated enough credits to get another 400 point MS card. Turns out they don't offer that denomination anymore, just 100 MS point cards for 125 Bing credits. (Actually, when I first checked, they were going for 150 credits, but thankfully they lowered it to the equivalent of the 400 MS point card rate.) And I don't think there's a limit to how many you can get anymore.
