I wouldn't put it in a tight enclosed space, but the overheating issues are pretty much resolved now. As long as you have some amount of airflow, I think you'll be fine.

 Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Once we start Dance Central, it seems to work okay, but often times the start-up to games is painful -- especially the Kinect Adventures and the two Kinect Sports games which often seem very frustrating at start up. Mine seems really picky about the sign-in and many times the wrong person will be assigned. Often I have to go all the way to the dashboard to fix things. It's a shame because I sort of think some of the games could be cool, but overall the Kinect is an exercise in frustration for me. That said, I did pick up Once Upon A Monster and Disneyland Kinect for the kids this Christmas and hope that they'll work better. And I haven't tried my copy of Gunstringer yet, so that's another ray of hope for the system.

It's not an enclosed entertainment center, the bottom shelf is open on all sides (No backing on it, and nothing on the sides)

Here's a picture of it

I can't imagine that would be an issue; heck my old 20 GB 360 is still sitting on a TV stand like that one.

Mine is in a much tighter space than that and I (historically) have it on constantly.

ok, thanks guys. I know in the old days when it first came out the only way to be sure of no overheating was to put it on a table in the middle of the room with nothing around it lol. Glad they mostly got that worked out.

Who twisted your arm to buy one if you're so against them?

I'm not against them at all, I think they are great systems, just as good as the ps3. I was just burned a couple of times long ago by red rings. Now that they have that worked out I can finally own one again.

The only thing you've seen me even slightly talk down on in this forum is Live. Whenever anyone asks which one to get I am always the one saying that it just depends on the exclusives as they both have their pro's and con's with the actual games for the most part being identical on multi-platform.

For those who are looking for something to ask Santa for this year, I highly recommend the Wireless Bluetooth Headset. That is an impressive piece of technology. Tiny, comfortable. Crystal-clear sound -- MUCH better than the previous wireless headset they offered (I got one last Black Friday, but it broke in less than six months). This thing is so cool and what's best is that when the phone rings, I just flip the switch on the side of the headset to blue position and I've just answered my phone. After completing the call, I'll switch it back to the green setting and I'm gaming again. Brilliant!

I didn't see iit mentioned, but the new XBox Dashboard Update will be available on December 6th.

One article I read said that not all the new apps will be available right away. They will apparently be posted in small increments over the next few months.

I hope HBOGo will be in the 1st update though.

I would grab one if there was a way to mute it on the controller - this is one reason I am still using the original mic from my first 360, the mute/volume on the controller is so awesome. There used to be an adapter that fit on the controller and allowed you to plug in any headset, but it appears to be long gone now.

Video of the new XBox 360 dashboard. Will be released on Tuesday. This reviewer got it early.

<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/4VI5WTo88KM&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/4VI5WTo88KM&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></embed></object>

Forward to approx 2:00 to actually see the installation process and surfing.

It doesn't look like HBOGo will be ready yet. It's hard to tell in the video since he skimmed through it.

My friend has the new dashboard already and was playing with it today. It's the most significant update I've seen. Everything is totally different. It works real well with the Kinect too.

Those who actually paid for premium themes will be disappointed I think.

Ugh, my XBox started freezing yesterday, first while trying to play Madden and then it would freeze on startup on the logo. It's an old Pro version that came back to me after an RMA for red rings at least 3 years ago. I guess I should be fortunate it lasted that long.

Anything I can do if it's freezing, or just screw it and buy a slim version? Sucks that it happens a week after all the Black Friday deals.

Screwing it is probably a bad idea due to all the sharp corners, but you're probably better off just getting a slim.

Will the update Tuesday have HBO go, or do we have to wait awhile longer?

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

HBOGo is an app and therefore completely independent of MS's timeline.

Yeah, if that guy is a reviewer, he won't be covering any more MSFT published titles.

Wear a condom if you decide to screw it -- it is an "old Pro" :rimshot:

Quick dumb question...I am about to sell my old 360 Elite and I was going through my old boxes, cords, etc. I found this cord and cannot for the life of me remember what it was used for. Can someone refresh my memory please?

Break-away USB cable maybe? They were used on the old corded plastic guitars.
