And the Biggest Bomb of 2009 is.....
Tony Hawk Ride!
The NPD numbers for November show some pretty pathetic sales for Tony Hawk Ride.
114K - across all 3 platforms , 13K on Xbox
No real big surprise. Everyone was expecting this thing to fail. It's a big ugly mess clogging up space on retailer's shelves.
While there certainly was other games in 2009 that performed worse (Damnation anyone?), Tony Hawk was a high profile gimmick that crashed and burned. The problem is that there is no real target audience for this. If real life skateboarders want a realistic experience, they will go grab a real skateboard. Casual gamers want to just goof off on the couch, not stand up.
It just amazes me that this project ever got approved and passed testing.

The King of the Unnecessary Thread strikes again!
If only there already were a thread about the November NPD numbers ...... oh wait, there is!
If only they were discussing RIDE in that thread ..... oh wait, they are!
If only there were already a thread dedicated to Tony Hawk RIDE ... oh wait, there was!
If only jeffbase would use an exisiting thread instead of starting his own ...........................Sorry, I can't help with that one.

Not surprised at all. The fad of skating games died out a long time ago.

I also played Skate It on the balance board and it sucked. Not because I didn't want to stand up and skate, but because the controls were horrific.
In fact, I'm sure Skate It would be better if I simply played with the Wiimote while sitting on my lazy ass, but I really don't have any interest in that.

While Tony Hawk Ride bombed, it was expected. To me, the biggest bomb of the year was Dead Space Extraction only moving 9,400 copies. Granted, there wasn't a huge amount of buzz for it, but it obviously received a lot of effort from EA, was part of a hot new franchise, was very well received critically and was the best of the 'Wii is for grown-ups too!' games I've played.

Re: And the Biggest Bomb of 2009 is.....
Tony Hawk Ride only sold 110k largely from its price tag and the fact it's a terrible game - the peripheral aspect had little to do with the fact that the core game was a piece of shit. Robomodo did an absolutely terrible job, but now that Neversoft is busy making Guitar Hero games - I guess it was that or nothing.
Now, the fact it sold 110k at $110 a piece is pretty impressive. Especially considering how little fanfare it had coming out and terrible reviews to boot.

Re: And the Biggest Bomb of 2009 is.....
So i am expected to know the ENTIRE posting history of this forum, do extensive research and make sure that my thread has ZERO relation to any previous post? I have never seen a gaming message board that was so anal about thread topics. Personally, I hate seeing old threads resurrection, click through dozens of pages just to see some new comments.
If my posts annoy you that much, I am done posting here. Many better gaming forums out there, anyways.

You'd think that after a while you'd learn how to search. It's basic forum etiquette anywhere. Good luck on your future endeavors!
You have 1,012 posts and you've created 194 threads. That means every 5th post by you is a new thread. Just so you know.

Not only that, he's wrong about the numbers:
By platform, the game sold around 67,000 units on the Wii, about 30,000 on the 360, and only 16,000 and change on the PS3.

What about DJ Hero? It sold a little bit more copies but the expectations were higher.
Some suggestions for new threads:
- The 1 and only GOTY 2009 edition
- Rookie of the Year 2009 - Videogame edition (New IP)
- Surprise of the year 2009 - Videogame edition
etc..
