Re: Transformers - The War for Cybertron (Activision, NOT Movie based!)

Played for a few minutes and ranked up to Soldier level 2.

I only played Team Deathmatch but so far from what I can tell it has four classes like Bad Company 2. Each one can be customized with the load out of your desire. You have to rank up each class to unlock the perks, weapons, etc. for that class again like Battlefield.

You have two weapons, a main and a secondary that are switchable via the Y button. You also have two specialty type moves via the RB and LB buttons. The one I used to snag a few kills was one that has you spinning around tornado style with a giant hammer in your hands. The other I had provided a ammo spot for teammates.

You can switch live time as much as you want between your robot form and vehicle form by clicking the left stick down. It's fast and it came in hand charging in with the tank, firing off a couple rounds and then switching to robot to continue fighting.

You also carry a grenade, you can zoom in and out with guns, etc.

The weapons are cool so far. I've been using the EMP shotgun and a Minigun.

Either way it handles real well, it looks good and I really enjoyed the couple matches I played. It feels like a solid MP Team Deathmatch. I can't speak for the other modes.

From what I hear this game controls like Gears of War and the multiplayer is like COD. That sounds like a really good combo. Downloading demo now.

I was looking to buy this game and at $40, I think the price point is great.

I have never preordered a game to get specific characters before, but Best buy has Jazz...are there ways to get this character after the fact? or once the preorders are over, can you earn or buy these guys?

It doesn't appear that you can unlock any of these. I have beaten the Decepticon campaign, and played some of the Autobots. I'm sure they will be DLC later though.

I'd love to play a PS3 demo. The Xbox demo I saw at Best Buy looked like a lot of fun.

This game has me intrigued, but with so many other titles coming out I'll give this a rental.

Re: Transformers - The War for Cybertron (Activision, NOT Movie based!)

I beat it last night so I'll give you my short review. It's the best Transformers game, but remember the other ones are movie games so that's not hard to do

Seriously though, the game isn't "bad", it just doesn't do anything "great". Every level looks and feels exactly the same, which was exactly what I was afraid of before it came out. They needed to be on earth and have some diversity in design. I personally hated the multiplayer, some of the worst I have ever played. Overall, I would give it a 6/10 for a cool story and great voice acting.

I read on another forum that the embargo is until tonight (!). Is that a first? Not allowing reviews for a game to be posted on the morning/afternoon of release?

Edit! ...or maybe that was wrong: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1100843p1.html

Pretty much what I paid ($35). Best Buy, Future Shop, and Walmart are selling it for $40 right now in Canada. But BB had an extra $5 off for pre-orders.

This totally seems like a title destined for a $20-off coupon from the RZ after a couple of months. When that happens, I'll be there.

Picked it up for $40 today.Liking it so far.Single player seems good. The multiplayer reminds me a lot of Halo, with equally horrible results for me

Re: Transformers - The War for Cybertron (Activision, NOT Movie based!)

Not a fan of multiplayer at all. I find everymap looks the same. Maybe I need to get used to the controls or the weapons more, I am not sure. I can see myself trading this in soon though.

I have gone through the first few levels of the Decepticon campaign and am equally unimpressed. It seems there are only a handful of differnet types of enemies which is strange.

Played co-op with a friend last night and had a blast! Strange to see others not really liking it.

Is co-op local or does it have to be through PSN?

Yea, finished the decepticon part last night. You dont run into any of the actual gen 1 autobots at all during gameplay with one large exception. The one large exception is an awesome stage.

If they make another game I hope they set it on Earth, with just Gen 1 characters. This would help with better maps. The character models in this game are really well done, much better than the terrible ones used in the recent movies.
