In case anyone cares... I had sent in a letter to ECA asking them to cancel my membership on 11/22, and I got a reply from them today. So it took almost a month. It's a form letter which says they have cancelled my membership and removed all of my credit card information.

The best part is the last sentence of the letter: "To re-join the ECA, please visit http://www.theeca.com" :lol:

I just got the "Membership Cancellation" email as well.

I also laughed at that last line in the email. :lol:

So wait.. They require you to physically send in a letter to cancel? But they reply via email that it is done? :hscratch: Again, why not just let it all occur via email or through the website?

I just got my cancellation confirmation as well. I sent in a free Google card and also was listed in the mass CAG cancellation letter that had 700-some members.

you can now turn off auto renew and you can also cancel now online...

How do you cancel online? I didn't see an option for that.

I did this a few days ago...and now I can't log in to see..but if I remember correctly when I turned off auto renew, it went to a page asking if I just wanted to cancel right then...which I did...

Yup. I just did that exact thing. and they closed my account immediately.

No, the cancellation e-mail was just to me. I was just saying I sent a free Google postcard and then also put my name in for the mass cancellation letter that the guys at CAG put together and sent in.

Well, this is what I wanted in the first place. I wonder if there's any problem with turning off auto-renewal while remaining a member for now. We'll see, I guess....

It appears to be two separate steps. I just cancelled the auto-renew at first, but then I decided to not mess with it and went back and finished it off totally. I didn't want to have to worry about it in the future.

Wait, did they state that you can now cancel online? I mean, they pretty much had this functionality before and claimed it didn't work/wasn't supposed to be there, so I'm still a little wary.

It's definitely different than it was before. I'm inclined to say the negative publicity they received was more than enough motivation for them to get their shit together. I went through and cancelled my membership, so if a charge appears on my credit card I'll be disputing it.

I did the Google card thing, but I also started a complaint with the BBB and went back and forth with that for a while. I have no clue which actually worked, more than likely the card though I imagine.

Just to confirm everything I just went to the site to sign in and check things out. When I try to sign in I get this:


The username ******* has not been activated or is blocked.

I did the Google card cancellation but am still showing as active.
