Which Do You Collect More? DVDs/Blu-Rays or Video Games?

Re: Which Do You Collect More? DVDs/Blu-Rays or Video Games?
I was thinking the same thing. I looked around the other forums, but I didn't see this thread posted on any of them with the "Moved" icon. It is very surprising that the poll is so heavily skewed towards DVDs on a video game board.

Heh. I am the same way. I check Gametrailers, IGN, and Gamespot daily although I don't really play that many games anymore.
I used to be a very hardcore gamer in my youth. I would frequently put in 10+ hour gaming marathons. My record was when I played Final Fantasy VII for nearly 30 hours straight when I was in college. I was so obsessed with it, it nearly cost me my whole college career.
Starting about 5-6 years ago though, something happened but I don't really know what. I just started caring less and less about gaming. It isn't because I don't have free time anymore because I have lots of free time since I am unmarried, no kids, and have an easy job. It isn't because I am "growing up" because I am still obsessed with comic books. My video game "spark" just is not there any more. I have only played four new games this whole year long.
But I still like to visit gaming sites like Gametrailers, IGN, and Gamespot and of course this message board. I don't really know why though.
So to answer the poll: I am much more of a DVD person nowadays.

I don't collect video games, I play them. There are very few games I consider good enough to keep after I've finished them. So my "collection" of games isn't huge. A good movie I can watch over and over, so that is a collection. Also, I can get Blu-rays for $10-$15 a pop, whereas even with a good deal the cheapest I can get a game is about $40.

I wasn't even referring to the poll, but the multiple responses along the lines of "I don't play games" or haven't since the Atari. Very weird.

This was originally posted in the top "DVD Talk" forum when I first replied to it. It was moved sometime after that.

Definitely blu-rays. Since they are so much dhorter than games, there are much easier to re-watch than re-play.

I still buy more movies/tv shows than video games - in both number and the amount of money spent.
Mostly since videogames are a solitary activity I do by myself when I have nothing else to do, while I can watch and share dvds/blurays with other people.

I'm not really sure the ratio, but I kind've go on kicks from one to another. Most of my dvd purchases are TV on dvd. Sometimes I'll go on a binge and just need to finish a series, and usually that will get me ancy to play a game again and not even look at a dvd for awhile. Conversely, after finishing Fallout 3 I didn't want to touch a game for a month.

I think I originally posted this in the Other Talk so I can balance out the two but somehow it got moved. I do by more Movies a year but now I am going to try and balance everyone. Every two weeks, at least 1 video game, 1 TV Show Season and 1 blu-ray

I don't collect either anymore. I have a very modest DVD collection (less than about 50 dvds including boxsets) that is a holdover from when I thought it would be neat to built a library, and I only own 3 360 games. I rarely if ever buy dvds now. I bought the Farscape complete set that just came out, but that's the only dvd I bought in the last 2 years if not better. I use gamefly now, and when it wasn't that I would buy a game, play it, and sell it.
I think it's neat to look at other peoples collections (I love the HT setup thread), but I don't personally want a lot of stuff anymore. Owning a lot of things just doesn't really serve a purpose for me.

Re: Which Do You Collect More? DVDs/Blu-Rays or Video Games?
When I got my first job in the early 80's I bought a good stereo setup and started collecting LP's and storing them in plastic sleeves...then along came CD's.
I bought a DVD player in 1999 and started collecting DVD's. 1,500 discs later the DVDs that I paid $30 for could be found everywhere for as low as $2.99....then along came BluRay.
As I stated above, I'm only buying the one's "I love/must have" and kid's movies.
With a video game system, you know going in that the system has a limited life before something bigger & better comes along. I rarely sell games, so I resorted to renting them unless the multiplayer is great or the game can go on & on, like NHL/Tiger Woods/Rock Band, etc...

Re: Which Do You Collect More? DVDs/Blu-Rays or Video Games?
I spend most of my time/money buying on Blu-rays now, sometimes DVDs. It's been a while since I did very much gaming, but I still go through my spurts where I'm really addicted to a game or am really in the mood to play. I'm actually in the mood to play some video games, but I've had too big of a viewing backlog to catch up on.
