Left 4 dead 2 thread of zombie action
Posted at TeamXbox today....
Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced details and timing for the demo of its upcoming zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2. The Left 4 Dead 2 demo will feature gameplay taken from "The Parish" campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. Playable by 1 to 4 players over local or Internet connections on both the Xbox 360 and PC (with two-player split screen available on the Xbox 360), the demo features all the new boss infected zombies and all the new melee weapons included in the full product. Those who pre-order the game (at participating retailers or via Steam) will obtain early access to the demo on October 27. The demo will then be made available to Xbox LIVE Gold members and all PC gamers on November 3. Then all Xbox LIVE members will obtain access to the demo on November 10. Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles. Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more. With the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played. Adding new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge, all available at launch. Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
For the 360 version, it looks like only gamestop is giving out early demo access for preordering. They also appear to be the only ones with the bat weapon. I preordered from EA and they don't mention anything about an early demo or a bat.... It's also $5 cheaper at gamestop. At least I preordered it with those sims cards..

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I'll stop by Gamestop tonight and Pre-order.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
You know, I'm on a budget. I have stopped buying games, cancelled cable, cancelled XM, basically live off streaming. And yet, I have to buy this game. I don't care that I'll probably end up spending 55 bucks on it. I just want it.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
So what is the deal? Anyone who didn't buy their copy from Gamestop won't be able to pick up the bat when they see it in the game? Seems retarded to have stuff like that be exclusive.
I pre-ordered today from Gamestop and didn't get any kind of card for early demo access, not that I care because I rather just wait until release. I forgot to even ask about it, but now i'm wondering if they will even bother giving me the card for the bat when the game comes out. Seems like a very sloppy pre-order process they have going. |

Let's say I pre-ordered from Gamestop and got the bat. If we play together, you will be able to see and use the bat. If you play by yourself, the bat won't even exist to you. I think the 'demo' code will also unlock the bat. I pre-ordered from GS but will likely cancel after I get my demo/code. I buy from Amazon. |

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I thought the first one was a blast but when I was done with it I never felt the urge to revisit it so I had planned on waiting until the sequel dropped in price to pick it up. That was until I saw the words "French Quarter." Now I have to have it. I can't imagine a better setting for a zombie apocalypse.

Leaked trailer is Epic.
Wasn't sure before, but I think I'm gonna like the new Survivors. Pre-ordered last week. The demo comes out a day before my birthday! How cool is that? |

I see. I still don't like the idea of a game being incomplete if it isn't purchased through a specific retailer.

I'm not sure the demo was worth the trip to gamestop...

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
Demo is out for everybody today, a week earlier!!!!!

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
They picked 2 really bad levels for a demo. After 3-4 play through's I'm bored.

I felt that way too. I cancelled my pre-order. I'll pick this game up when the price drop later on. I don't think it worth $60 right now. |
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I didn't like the first game and the demo felt more like an expansion pack than a sequel. So I'm going to pass on this one.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I could care less about the single player aspect of the first game or this one. My friends and I are in on this purely for the co-op. We've had a blast for hours over the summer and fall playing the first one in the various incarnations.
|
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I played the PC demo when it came out for pre-bought on Steam folks and I was underwhelmed. But, I mean... I pre-bought it... so I'm kinda stuck with it.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I never played the first game, but this one is really fun. Especially when you get a group of folks playing with you that are cooperating.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I am a huge fan of L4D1. However, this demo was very underwhelming. I hate playing this game in a daytime setting -- hopefully the other campaigns are at night. This campaign "Parish" sucks. It doesn't have the charm that the levels had on the first L4D. The only character I liked was "Coach". The others were pretty lame. The melee weapons weren't very exciting to play with. I was very disappointed with this demo -- all of this could have been DLC for L4D1. I will get the game eventually, but not for a while.
Hopefully the rest of the game is good, maybe they just put the crappiest part in the demo. |
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
Playing during the day sucks. I too found the levels boring and plain.
|
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I played it and enjoyed it. It's different from the first games...which I'm guessing was the point...so it'll take some getting used too. I liked the different settings and who cares if some of it is during the daylight? I would guess in that situation getting to safety has no "prime time".
I didn't like that they switched the "Comment" and "Crouch" buttons. That was annoying while trying to defend while a horde was running at me. The Melee weapons, the machete in particular, were VERY satisfying... |
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
Daytime + Melee weapons just makes the game easier for the survivors. I fear playing Vs. now.
|
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
Is there still a community playing L4D1 on 360? If that seems to be the better game, I wouldn't mind checking that out, even if I get kicked for sucking so bad.

I'd say give the FULL L4D2 game a chance before blowing it off. |

Toss in the fact they can now revive dead people and it just makes it a cakewalk for Survivors. |

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I gave it a quick try playing solo (360) and the zombies were very choppy at times in their animation, especially their initial movements. They would kind of slide forward before actually animating. Strange.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
I am new to the game. bought it a month ago and never got very far at all. If anyone wants to run through the co-op campaigns please add me. Kunane954.
Even if I am playing a different game feel free to ask me. |
Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th
L4D is a really easy game.
