Left 4 dead 2 thread of zombie action
Posted at TeamXbox today....
Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced details and timing for the demo of its upcoming zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2.
The Left 4 Dead 2 demo will feature gameplay taken from "The Parish" campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. Playable by 1 to 4 players over local or Internet connections on both the Xbox 360 and PC (with two-player split screen available on the Xbox 360), the demo features all the new boss infected zombies and all the new melee weapons included in the full product.
Those who pre-order the game (at participating retailers or via Steam) will obtain early access to the demo on October 27. The demo will then be made available to Xbox LIVE Gold members and all PC gamers on November 3. Then all Xbox LIVE members will obtain access to the demo on November 10.
Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles. Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.
With the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.
Adding new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge, all available at launch.

For the 360 version, it looks like only gamestop is giving out early demo access for preordering. They also appear to be the only ones with the bat weapon. I preordered from EA and they don't mention anything about an early demo or a bat.... It's also $5 cheaper at gamestop. At least I preordered it with those sims cards..

You know, I'm on a budget. I have stopped buying games, cancelled cable, cancelled XM, basically live off streaming. And yet, I have to buy this game. I don't care that I'll probably end up spending 55 bucks on it. I just want it.

So what is the deal? Anyone who didn't buy their copy from Gamestop won't be able to pick up the bat when they see it in the game? Seems retarded to have stuff like that be exclusive.
I pre-ordered today from Gamestop and didn't get any kind of card for early demo access, not that I care because I rather just wait until release. I forgot to even ask about it, but now i'm wondering if they will even bother giving me the card for the bat when the game comes out. Seems like a very sloppy pre-order process they have going.

Let's say I pre-ordered from Gamestop and got the bat. If we play together, you will be able to see and use the bat. If you play by yourself, the bat won't even exist to you.
I think the 'demo' code will also unlock the bat. I pre-ordered from GS but will likely cancel after I get my demo/code. I buy from Amazon.

I thought the first one was a blast but when I was done with it I never felt the urge to revisit it so I had planned on waiting until the sequel dropped in price to pick it up. That was until I saw the words "French Quarter." Now I have to have it. I can't imagine a better setting for a zombie apocalypse.

I see. I still don't like the idea of a game being incomplete if it isn't purchased through a specific retailer.

Leaked trailer is Epic.
Wasn't sure before, but I think I'm gonna like the new Survivors.
Pre-ordered last week. The demo comes out a day before my birthday! How cool is that?

I could care less about the single player aspect of the first game or this one. My friends and I are in on this purely for the co-op. We've had a blast for hours over the summer and fall playing the first one in the various incarnations.

I played the PC demo when it came out for pre-bought on Steam folks and I was underwhelmed. But, I mean... I pre-bought it... so I'm kinda stuck with it.

I feel the exact same way. Have never played this game with less than 3 co-op players and had a blast with the original and dlc. Part 2 definately looks well worth the $. Gameplay feels a lot faster, way more zombies, and no breaks, just nonstop zombie attacks.
