You are right! It's the Default setting! You know what I did? I started playing L4D2 and I forgot to customize the controller to match what I use in L4D1. I picked the setting I use on L4D1 when it came out and forgot about it and the fact that one could even do it.
There are 4 Configs in both games... Default, 2, 3, and 4(where Crouch is click LS and vocal is LB), and I've always played the original on 4 and had gotten use to it.
At least I'm man enough to apologize for my misguided bitching.

Well I'll say this....normal in this version is not "normal" in the first version. But to me that's a good thing. Why spend $60.00 for a cakewalk and then end up complaining it was to easy and has no replay value. No doubt some frustration has set in tha wasn't with the first game. With four players survial and getting thru does depend on just that....coop a.k.a team play.
EDIT to add: Tried running w/ a group on the shopping mall level earlier today too... Almost out of the door of the safe house (2nd or 3rd act don't recall which) there was a hoard attack, 2 smokers, a boomer and a hunter. That's not "normal" IMHO.

I only JUST started playing, but i'm embarrassed to say I have to play on easy. I tried normal my first game and we got our asses handed to us. On easy we made it to the end of the swamp level, but only one guy made it to the boat. Hell, I didn't even realize the boat was there and that it was time to get out of dodge. Game is still fun as shit, though.

Finally got the Gnome achievement. One small tip I have for it, on the 4th chapter... When you get to the area where the arena is visible but you have to cut to the left through the barns, over some roofs, and back around on the other side of the fence to get to the final run to the safe room... before you do all that, you can throw the gnome over the fence in front of the doors to the arena (right before the safe room). Then you can navigate a big section of that map and can freely fight for awhile, and then just pick up the gnome again at the end of the chapter right before getting to the safe room.

I still haven't made it out of the mall in Single Player. This game is kickin' Mah Ass!
One of the things I loved about L4D1 was how good the AI team performed. Apparently they dumbed down this version's AI. There were times when I moved ahead and the AI would still be standing and waiting. I'd have to go back to get them to follow. Then there were other times when I tried to give one a Med Pac or Pills and they would just hand it back even though I didn't need them.
Anyway, it's still a very fun game and new settings, weapons, and crazy ass mini missions like the Coke Six Pack are a cool addition to the series.

There's nothing wrong about confessing using "Easy" with this version....I'm playing it and based on several reads from other forums others have had to follow suit. So-called "Normal' is like hard in the first version. We tried "Normal' the first night and at the end the word "fun" didn't exactlly come to mind.

Yeah I figured you were using another config.

Scavenge mode seems to be the new Versus. You're limited to a smaller area, and its actually a lot more fun. Those huge maps are just too grueling.
Abd yes, I've started playing on Easy as well.
Best strategy I've found is to use a melee weapon and slash your way through. With one of the auto rifles for long distance sniping.

Yeah, I also had to step down to Easy to finally finish the 1st Scenario and even then one still died. There was one part in the Mall on Easy where 2 Hunters were in a room. I could be wrong but other than the Survival DLC, I don't think I've ever seen that happen on Easy or Normal in the L4D1.

It didn't. You would usually get one of each of the specials at a time, usually not at the same time as the hoard attacks... usually IIRC. Now it seems you get 3-4 random specials (even duplicates) almost at the same time as the hoard attacks (which are much more constant than in the first one too). One other thing though, IMHO the tanks seem a little easier to kill... not sure that is much consolation w/ everything else going on but it just seems that way to me.

Yeah that's what I thought. I also agree that the Tank seems a bit easier to kill. It also seems smaller.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 thread of zombie action
After being away from the game all weekend I was able to get through the remaining two scenarios tonight. Awesome stuff all around. Looking forward to trying out some VS....but I think it's gonna be a bitch when playing as the survivors.

Picked up the game yesterday, but I wasn't able to play for that long. My mic was cutting out and the lag was unbearable.
Which server setting do you guys use? Local?

Yea the lag can be a pain at time but nothing like it was the first couple of nights. Got thru all the levels and must say it's fun and the levels are a blast. The downpour and swap are just cool. The melee weapons are the hit of the game. Honestly think they are somewhat better than guns in many situations.

What is the better server option in this game now though? I noticed 2. Local and official I think?

I think the Local Server is the better option right now (especially if you're the host
). My friend hosted some games last night and the three of us had great connections (live in the same city), everyone else had a slightly worse connection, but it must have been fine since no one left.
The dedicated servers I've been on, almost all of them, seem to have horrendous lag that makes the game pretty much unplayable. Hopefully they get that fixed soon.

Between the lag and the frustrating difficulty level (even on "Normal"), this may be my biggest gaming disappointment of the year. The first game was nearly perfect, so it's sad to see them go backwards with the sequel.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 thread of zombie action
I've only had a few nights of co-op thus far, but I've had absolutely no lag issues. I'm seeing it all over the place though. Hope they get on that shit ASAP. (Although they really should've already at this point I'd think.)
The difficulty thing I don't really see as a step back though. Can't you just play on Easy? Easy can still be tough in some areas, but I haven't found it to be absolutely impossible.
