Second playthrough was easier for me. But I was level 50 or so :p

Yep...that matters and helps. I think I did play most of one character normally thru the second playthru...(didn't level up and then play) and it was a challenge even after "Off The Bus". I think "Dead Haven" second around is about Level 46...Crimson Fastness is no easy task either if you're not a few levels up.

Re: Borderlands

was the Rakk Hive supposed to be ridiculously easy on first play through?

**edit**
is there a way to edit my save file to delete the "Another Piece of the Puzzle" mission that killing the Rakk Hive belongs to? wondering cause i just read about the hidden basement and of course had no idea before completing mission. how is someone supposed to know???

I didn't have any problem with it, but I was a few levels above it when I fought it.

fyi the basement is useless

The first playthrough was a joke as I did all the quests and was therefore 3 or 4 levels higher than everything I was killing. The second playthrough has the same issue. Maybe once I get the General Knoxx dlc it will be different...

Picked this game up on a lark after reading about it here, and let me just say the co-op play is just AWESOME. What a great game--SO much more fun playing with someone against a bunch of Bruisers and Skags than getting sniped repeatedly in MW2 by some 13 year old.

so there is no way to edit a save file so i can just delete the last mission i completed correct, just to see what it is about? the Wiki mentioned this was possible, but no hows or anything.

Re: Borderlands

I'm guessing that wiki was referring to the PC version, though maybe there is some way (I know you can glitch your character so ALL of the missions go clear).

You could always try it out on your second playthrough. It's just a room with bandits and 2 chests.

yeah, i guess it isn't a big deal, but i like to do all i can and could've used a nice sniper. as it is i am kicking ass with an orange combustible hellfire smg.

Re: Borderlands

So, I just popped this in for the first time last night (got it as a Christmas gift) and have spent about 4-5 hours with it now. I have to say I don't get the appeal. I love the visual style, but so far it's just shooting things with weapons I don't have a chance to get familiar with because I'm always picking up new ones that are better. Is there more to this game than that?

I should note, I'm only playing single player, and that's how I plan to play it. So if I have to play multiplayer to get the "full experience" then I'll be selling this off immediately.

If you are that far in and don't like it I doubt playing further will change your mind. Getting new weapons and leveling up is the what made the game fun.

Re: Borderlands

Yep, if you don't like shooting stuff with various weapons, you won't like it more later. The strategy never really changes and the story sure as hell doesn't draw you in.

i agree. though the gameplay has been similar throughout, i was taken right from the start and this is only my second FPS ever played behind the Halos.

i have found it very addictive to find new weapons and ones that you like to use and get good results with. the thrill of slamming multiple enemies in short time with a great weapon is fun as hell.

the missions vary and it becomes increasingly difficult not to do one more and then another before shutting off. it is the thrill of the increased XP points and gaining a stronger, more rounded character using the skill points.

always staying ahead of the increasingly stronger enemies (both human and non), slowly piecing what little story there is of what this vault is and what's in it and shootin' and killin' is what it boils down to and makes it supremely satisfying as a FPS.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. I went back and played it a bit more after my post last night and I just feel like I'm grinding through an average FPS for the sole purpose of upgrading my character. If I had more free time to burn right now, that could have been enough to get me hooked. But as it stands, I think I'm done with it. Glad everyone else finds it enjoyable though!

I would compare Borderlands to a super lite version of WoW. All you're doing is grinding till you hit the level cap so you can farm for better loot.

i dunno, but i f-in love this game.

Re: Borderlands

I had to take a break (playing Red Dead Redemption) for the time being. But I'd like to go back for the heck of it or join someone who wants to level up so I can try several weapons that I got with all my characters. I leveled up all four to 60 but really didn't get a chance to play with all their new "Toys".

Re: Borderlands

For people that have all 3 DLCs, don't you think it's stupid not to have direct access to Moxxi's Underdome from Moxxi's bar on the Knoxx expansion?
It's a pain having to drive all the way back to TBone junction to fast travel.

By the way, is anybody up for killing Crawmerax? I have a Lvl 61 Berserker and I get my ass handed to me every single time if I try to kill him solo..

Re: Borderlands

You know, sometimes it's easier to just exit the game. If you want to fast travel to another DLC or location.

Re: Borderlands

so i just finished my 1st playthorugh and all i have to say is...

that's it???

as much fun as i had playing the nearly 60 hours -eek- it took to end at Level 36 and it was a lot of fun, i was really really let down by the end.

i mean you can't even open the vault??

i really thought through the latter stages that i would i find really cool weapons, a better shield, etc...

as it was, the best shield i ever picked up or had option to buy was like a 500 capacity and decent recharge, but no health regen.

the only one i could use was like a 413 and slow health regen.

my soldier did pick up like a +10 ammo regen class mod which helped a lot.

but i really thought i would find great weapons with loads of power and fire rate. i mean i had to kill "The Destroyer" with the only weapon that seemed to be effective...a Hellfire SMG with 61 damage! 61! i mean it was an awesome weapon, but to kill a god-like creature from yards away...no!

i did try everything in my arsenal...a few different rocket launchers, my trusty purple scoped assault rifle, a corrosive weapon, an electrical weapon, but Hellfire was only thing that slowly chipped away and i mean slowly. i couldn't even buy decent weapons in the shops towards the end. they were all still mostly green weapons. rare did i see a purple, let alone orange or godforbid pearlescent

i don't even know if i completed all the side missions. i mean i think i did as claptrap didn't alert me any longer and i did take and complete each and everyone that was offered, but how do i know?

i do know i didn't complete all the claptrap rescue missions as i ended up only opening 30 backpack slots, i believe. i guess the others are in the DLCs?

so it is sad to say, but i am really disappointed and not sure i want to play the zombie dlc i got, not to mention a 2nd playthrough.

so is what i have described, the lack of really good weapons, lack of decent shield, etc...seem normal with only a 1st playthrough? does 2nd find me better weapons? will the Knoxx DLC find me better weapons and stuff and possibly a renewed interest?

I enjoyed the zombie dlc more than the regular game.

Re: Borderlands

There is a dramatic difference between the equipment dropped in playthrough 1 and playthrough 2.

The big thing though is the number of players. Playthrough 2 with 4 people gets really good drops.

how come MP gets better weapons? just something developers built in to utilize MP function to fullest? but pt 2 will yield different/better weapons solo as well?

and was the end lame for everyone else as well?

i think i will keep going through zombie island and get Knoxx DLC to see what's what. as i said i did have a blast and want to see what else there is i guess. i mean i gave it 60+ hours, what's another 50.

Harder enemies = better loot.
Playthrough 2 = harder enemies
Multiple players = harder enemies

It's nothing more insidious than that. Standard formula really. Also, you have an XBL account, why not play multiplayer?
