You're making it hard on yourself....look here for a walk-thru if you like, especially for where you are now.

ETA:  Then go get more work from TK!

I was trying to power through the story-based missions on my second playthrough, and the only way I could keep track of what missions were the important ones was to avoid going to the bounty boards. I wanted to slap Claptrap every time I went to a new location or completed a mission. Unfortunately, you can't shoot Claptrap to shut him up.

Since it was your second playthrough, couldn't you have got the side quests and just ignored them since you know what the main story was at that point?

You basically have your main missions and many refer to the "Bounty Board" as secondary ones. The thing to remember is both are sometimes connected to as you say..."The Story"...but not always. In some cases you have to do some of them in order to unlock another.

A prime example is The Middle of Nowhere" Bounty Board. You may get the main missions to do in East Commons but when you go to the board to collect you cannot access it. There are a few missions before that you have to do that will trigger and open up one "Go to the Middle of Nowhere Bounty Board". Then you have to do a mission for fuses, another one "Bug Problem" before the Bounty Board actually works.

Could someboyd give me a comparison of this with Fallout 3? I rented that, but did not like it at all. However, they look similar to me yet I've heard a lot of good buzz (although I did for F3 as well). I was primarly concerned for the multiplayer piece, so I suppose single player would be a bonus.

IMO, the only thing better about Fallout 3 is the story.

Re: Borderlands

Apart from the "wasteland" type setting and the fact that you get quests, level up and get loot, the two games couldn't be more different.

FO3 is about roleplaying, open world exploration and letting you progress however you desire with multiple ways to solve some quests.

Borderlands is pure FPS action, with a focus on co-op play, with only one way to solve each and every quest--- with guns blazing.

all the walkthroughs i have seen, including the above, mention doing the side missions to level up. the only problem is none of them mention where or how to get these side missions.

I leveled up mostly in the Zombie DLC, then I was up to snuff for the regular game, and after a hand full of the bigger missions, the smaller missions just kept coming and coming along with new areas and bulletin boards.

You already admitted you had a side mission available but chose to ignore it for some reason.

As has been said, typically the "bounty boards" in each area have side quests that don't specifically lead to the story moving on. As you complete quests and turn them in, more become available to you. also, there is usually at least one person in each "area" that provides you with additional quests. For example Scooter in New Haven. Just listen to all the really annoying announcements that are made saying "X Bounty board has new missions available" or "hey, scooter wants to talk to you". that is where a lot of the side missions are.

if you have any specific questions, i've found the borderlands wikia helpful:

http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Borderlands

even breaks down the "main line" for you on the missions page.

You can or as I said not accept the missions. But to "where" they are, simply go to your "mission" screen, move the cursor on the left side to what mission, hit you "Right Bumper"...not trigger...to show the map and look for the 'White Square Waypoint". Don't like it then go backto the mission screen, highlight another mission and back to map.

As to how....the main missions will pop up automatically after you complete something. The Bounty Board is your choice to accept or not.

i said i had two missions available to me right now. both are Level 10 missions and i am only Level 8 right now. i tried "Bone Head" and quit. i said i was going to go back and try the other Level 10 mission "TK Has More Work".

but, people keep saying there are these side missions, but i can't seem to find them. there is nothing on the only "Bounty Board" available to me now. that is where i got the above 2 and there are no others available from that board or Zed.

i know where and how to choose a different mission, but there are only 2 i can choose from. i don't even know if these are side or main or what, but 2 only.

I answered your question yesterday as soon as you asked it.

That quest is
Spoiler:
just you walking up to TK and turning it in, then he'll offer you 2 more over in Skag Gully (where you can find a third as soon as you walk in by the vending machines, iirc).

You are really over-complicating the game.

i know. i guess i missed it. sorry. i am gonna try in a bit. but, don't get me wrong, i am having a lot of fun and not as frustrated as i make it out to be.

OldBoy 04-26-10 05:14 PM

Re: Borderlands

correct me if i am wrong, but i thought killing enemies, namely skags would increase your XP.

what are the numbers that fly off them when they are hit and then killed?

i keep checking my XP # and it doesn't go up when i kill a # of the beasts. i thought that would be a good way to level up...

and thank you starman...i did find a couple more missions in Skag Gully where the level difficulty is not higher than mine.

xmiyux 04-26-10 05:16 PM

Re: Borderlands

The numbers that fly off are the damage being dealt.

Yes, killing mobs nets you xp.

pinata242 04-26-10 05:32 PM

Re: Borderlands

There's a giant XP progress bar at the bottom of the HUD. Every time you kill an enemy you can see a number get added to that. The amount you get depends on the enemy type, its level, and your level. Killing the same enemy type over and over will gain you less and less XP as you level up.

Additionally there are bonus XP challenges (hit Y on your quest log) for things like killing 100, 250, 1000 skags/humans/etc. Kill X enemies with pistols/repeaters/shotguns/etc.

What are your opinions on Siren mods. I'm only at level 22 so am just starting to get mods. I was excited to get an SMG mod (my main weapon), but it doesn't seem to do much more than the Firefly mod I already had.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to what was sidequests and what wasn't on the first playthrough. The second time through, I could guess on most of the quests available, but couldn't on several others. If all of the sidequests would have come from the bounty boards, I could have just avoided the bounty boards. Unfortunately, sidequests come from everywhere and everyone, and story quests come from the same.

So, yes and no.

My first character is the Hunter and I've enjoyed him with the Bloodwing and Pistol Fire rate Mods. The Siren is my second and she has some good ones, mainly ones for increasing the SMG damage (like 24% to 61%) but it's the Elemental Mods that can do serious damage, Fire, Acid and Shock all can go around 60%. She has three team ones, Cooldown, Shield and Elemental Chance. I think the better Mods start at 24 and up.I use the SMG mods mostly because you get Elemental Chance also and that extra % damage does work combined with elemental especially the Hellfire SMG's. By the way I think I have two Level 32 Elemental Artifacts I don't need (cannot use) if you want them.

starman9000 04-27-10 10:20 AM

Re: Borderlands

Thanks, I think I'm good with those elementals. Found my first orange SMG last night, no elemental effect, but it's got ammo regen and some fun swirling bullets. The Regen seems to be very useful for group games when the number of enemies gets crazy.

Just wanted to mention if anyone still has to go thru "Zombieland" either first or second playthru and needs a partner let me know. I've got three characters that I still need to do there. Most of the time I'm on around 8-9 pm central.

All my characters are above 51 so should be able to help out a bit.

Depends what you're doing. i recently got a SMG regen mod (either a 650 or 660 - 660 is perfect) and its pretty nasty on my friends siren. i'm going to be building a siren just for the mod so we can do Crawermax together. Buzz is right though, setting up a siren for an element is pretty nasty too. you can make a nice corossive one with the right weapons.

As for hunter mods, my 660 pistol one is awesome (+90% fire rate, +28 ammo regen). only one machine pistol i have doesn't regen ammo faster than i shoot it. got a sniper 660 as well, which does +100% crit and sniper regen. need to try that out with a bessie sniper (+500% crit) to see what i can do.

Re: Borderlands

In case some are needing "Elemental Artifacts" I've got several for some different characters. When I get tonight I'll look and see what I have and post. I already promised a first dibs for the Siren to someone. I do know I have three or four for the Hunter and Brick but just cannot remember what level.

There may be a few I'm in search of also if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
