Depends what you're doing. i recently got a SMG regen mod (either a 650 or 660 - 660 is perfect) and its pretty nasty on my friends siren. i'm going to be building a siren just for the mod so we can do Crawermax together. Buzz is right though, setting up a siren for an element is pretty nasty too. you can make a nice corossive one with the right weapons.
As for hunter mods, my 660 pistol one is awesome (+90% fire rate, +28 ammo regen). only one machine pistol i have doesn't regen ammo faster than i shoot it. got a sniper 660 as well, which does +100% crit and sniper regen. need to try that out with a bessie sniper (+500% crit) to see what i can do. Wow, those sound great. Do they actually say 660 on them? I read that the mods are ranked by the numbers, but I don't see those anywhere on mine. |

Look in the backpack listing... That's what he meant by "on the left".

but yes, in the INVENTORY screen, look on the left, next to the name, it will say "660 - spectre mod" or something like that. also, after reading a bit more, they are level dependent, so a 660 at level 43 might not be as good as say a 360 on level 61. apparently the first digit represents one thing, and the last 2 represent something else. more info here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Class_Mods if anyone is on live and wants to see these, just look me up. xbl is same as my screen name! (i'm creative) |

My biggest complaint about Borderlands was all the snipe hunting.
Have you got to those missions yet Scott? They are kind of early (but after Nine-Toes). |

Re: Borderlands
thanks xm.
is there a better, faster way of leveling up than i have been? i go through the missions i get, kill baddies along the way in various ways (melee, shooting with different guns, criticals to the head, running over), but only level 12 with 5+ hours of game time... also, if i found soldier class mods and a couple guns that are 10-13 levels above me (i obviously can't use any of them yet) do i need to hang on to them or can i sell them for the big money they are fetching right now? |
Re: Borderlands
In general, I won't hang onto the higher level guns unless they are Oranges. Mods, if they are very good you could, but that's hard to define without playing through the game.
As mentioned before, it can help to level up by looking at the various challenges (press Y when looking at your missions) you can get bonuses for things like running over a bunch of guys, selling/buying a lot of things, etc.... |

Re: Borderlands
No, in the menu there are mini objectives to shoot for. Things like:
- run over 1,000 enemies: gain 20k exp - light 500 enemies on fire: gain 10k exp - open 5.000 loot boxes: gain 15 exp Shit like that. There are about 100 or more of these You'll just have to root around the menus until you find it, or *gasp* open the manual. I didn't actually mess with actually shooting for any of these goals until I was close to finishing the game to see which weapons I ended up preferring. No sense wasting time going for 10k Repeater kills if I hate using them. |
Re: Borderlands
Yeah, I think I only actually looked at it to see if I was close to the achievement that required a bunch of different types of kills.
|
Re: Borderlands
which menu are you referring to? i didn't see anything like that in the game manual.

Re: Borderlands
Go into the character menu where you can see the quests, then hit Y either once or twice. [Xbox] That should take you to a list bunch of challenges which are tiered and are worth more and more. You don't have to select one, it automatically tracks your progress toward each one [character specific] - although I've had issues with them incrementing in my co-op game [which I do not start]
Kill 50 skags. 1000 xp Kill 250 skags. 2500 xp Kill 500 skags. 5000 xp for example [those are made up numbers] |
Re: Borderlands
Well I'm feeling a bit better today after leveling up both my Hunter and Siren to the majic number 61. Still have plenty of side missions and now to work on my Soldier (53) and Beserker (56). I still say getting four player with Beserkers using fists an rocket launchers would be a hoot.

 I love that I told you about the Y button stuff like two weeks ago!

Re: Borderlands
Do you have a car yet? If you do, it's easy to get the "shoot a gazillion bullets" challenge, since cars have infinite bullets. Tape down the trigger, drink a few beers. That will score you an easy 20,000+ experience.
