Re: Borderlands
Would anyone recommend this game if your going to play single player only ?
|
Re: Borderlands
Absolutely. The multiplayer is just icing on the cake. The core of the experience is the single-player game.

Re: Borderlands
Finished it last night, took me 38 hours and made it to level 36. Fantastic game, now to get the DLC.

If I am not connected to the internet, Will my enjoyment be good? I've read there are issues with bugs?

Re: Borderlands
The only glitch I had was in an arena fight when I'd killed everything available but it still wouldn't open the gate. Had nothing to do with any bugs playing online though. I suicided with a rocket launcher, re-entered the arena and polished off the couple of baddies that got hung up somewhere. No big deal. Most of the bugs had to do with trophies/achievements not unlocking for stuff done co-op, but those are reportedly fixed.
I just made Lvl 40 this morning in the Lumber Yard on Jakob's Cove. This expansion is really pretty sweet. I wouldn't have minded an entire game built around the undead monsters. There's so much creativity in this game that I have no doubt that they could have pulled it off. In fact, I'd argue there's the potential for greater variety in the expansion than the main game. |
Re: Borderlands
I had the same problem in one of the Arena Fights (on the PC) killed everyone and it wouldn't trigger the next wave I guess. Happened if I died and then went right back into the arena, got through it when I died earlier in the battle and had more baddies to kill and it finally went all the way through.

Re: Borderlands
I had that same arena glitch, but overall that's pretty much the only problem.
I just got the DLC last night. lots of fun and a real nice change of scenery too compared to the desert and trash everywhere. |
Re: Borderlands
I just picked the game up any tips before I start ? Like which is the best class to start with.

They play very differently as you gain levels and apply skill points. Do you like sniping, melee & explosions, well-roundedness & support, or elemental mayhem?

Re: Borderlands
The game has a pretty nice overview of each class type before you choose. You'll see the weapon types they prefer.

Re: Borderlands
cool thanks for the feedback pinata.

Re: Borderlands
For me it's the Hunter with sniping and the Bloodwing (Bird) with Siren and her Phase Walk right behind. I have played a bit with Berserker and that's pretty cool in rage mode. But it seems the Soldier is more popular.

Re: Borderlands
I picked Soldier and I think it's a lot of fun. I love my scorpio turret, it especially came in handy in the Zombie Island expansion for clearing out those big groups of zombies. I'd throw a MIRV grenade, drop my turret and then watch them all die firey re-deaths. I'm about to go do the last mission to finish the game on my 1st playthrough.
On that note, I really do love sniping and had I given it more thought I probably would have picked the hunter. I usually put a game down after I beat it, so I'm not sure I'll do a 2nd or 3rd playthrough like some folks do. But I will probably try out the other classes and see what they're like, and then I'll pull out my big soldier for when they add new DLC stuff. |

What is the best 2 player combo if me and my wife got into it together?

Re: Borderlands
Got my latest issue of Gameinformer and ha a neat one page q&A with someone behind Borderlands. I don't have the mag with me but just a few highlites....
Allot has been mentioned about a Locker Yea and we're looking into that One of the levels, Old Haven, had a good response but only a few missions. Any chance to expand Bottom line they're exploring adding or some sort of DLC for Old Haven. There was a lengthy question about maxing out level. They're exploring different ideas on expanding. He did say there is a "3rd Play thru" where everything is like Level 50. He called it Heroic Mode The Claptrap Good stuff here as it is one of their favories of the game. |
Re: Borderlands
I finished the game last night. I was level 40 for the last zone in the game, I did all quests plus finished zombie island first. It was such a breeze at this level. I had a shock sniper rifle from the zombie island that was killing guardians in 1 hit, even the badass ones went down real easy. When I got to the final boss, I dropped my turret with a level 4 shock artifact and opened up with my combat rifle. The fight lasted about a minute.
I think instead of doing new playthroughs they should have kept it as 1, so you opened the vault... then there's all new quests or they could even add new ones even on a weekly basis, just download the data and claptrap tells you where to go to find your new quests like he always does. |
Re: Borderlands
Has anyone noticed that some chests appear at locations randomly? I was doing the 2-chest run on Crimsom Fastness, when I saw that a red chest would be next to the boilers about a quarter of the time.
Also one question for you guys, is there any point to working on the eridian weapon skills? I've got the shotgun version, which is fun, but the recharge on any of the weapons suck. |

From the moment you descend into the Underdome and meet sadistic sexpot Moxxi, you're reminded that Borderlands boasts more style and flair than practically any game this year. As we learn in a cool cinematic, Moxxi's biding her time until meeting her fourth husband by making treasure hunters battle it out in her underground arenas. The structure is simple: A wave of enemies enters, you kill them all, madly try to collect the health and ammo refills that drop from the sky, and then start fresh. Each wave is themed, like the Gun Wave (everyone is armed) and the Horde Wave, which pitches an army of flaming bad guys on a collision course with you. At first, the only quest available in the hub that connects Moxxi's three tournaments tasks you with completing five rounds of five waves in each arena. You don't need a calculator to tell you that's a whole lot of murdering. Luckily, the constant narration and berating from Moxxi and the roar of the crowd help the fights feel like more of a spectacle than just a connected series of battles. The weird thing is that battling in the arenas doesn't award you experience -- nor weapons. Though the rewards might be delicious if you make your way to the end of an arena (I'm not sure, my poor Level 11 could never get that far), it robs Underdome fights of the feeling of constant character growth, which is really the driving force behind Borderlands. (Update: Gearbox tells us that new weapons drop underneath Moxxi after each round but "the XP thing is intentional after a lot of focus testing. It breaks the rest of the game if you let people crank up too much XP. This is a separate game mode.") It seems like, even with Moxxi lording over the proceedings and with occasional variables like reduced gravity, playing through all three arenas would start to feel a little grindy after a while. Of course, I'm sure that the whole thing is turned on its ear with the addition of a co-op buddy, and isn't that the way Borderlands was meant to be played in the first place? |
Re: Borderlands
The XP thing makes sense. Glad Gearbox was able to shed light on that.
