Re: Borderlands
i read in on a site earlier today (giant bomb, or kotaku, or joystiq, or destructoid ... ) that a "bank" would be included for storage of items.

Re: Borderlands
This kind of Arena stuff I am down for. I was worried it would be player vs player stuff, but more co-op arena survival, storage and more skill points is awesome. I have my character up to 47 and will have to see if I can max it out before these hit. Well worth $10. This game has become my new Burnout Paradise. I put 150+ hours into that game and played it quite a bit for 2 years. I'm already 60+ hours into Borderlands and hopefully the DLC will keep coming and keep me playing.

In a statement, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford clarified the Riot Mode announcement. "This is an ENTIRELY NEW GAME MODE," he said, calling it "Smash TV in coop FPS, but in the Borderlands." This is an ENTIRELY NEW GAME MODE. Think [Halo] ODST's "Firefight" of Gears of War [2]'s "Horde Mode". Cash, prizes and competition! It's like Smash TV in co-op FPS, but in the Borderlands. Also: This DLC expands greatly on the possibilities of combat as well adding a ton of new rules such as vampire mode or low gravity mode etc. This is not just deathmatch arenas." |

Re: Borderlands
More info from MTV Multiplayer
http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/...thon-sessions/ "It's all about this crazy Moxxi character, and she's running these tournaments. You go in and fight waves and rounds of monsters, and then she starts changing it all up. She throws out what are called 'Moxxi Maxims,' these rules that dramatically change the way the game play. She'll be like, 'Vampire Rule!' which makes it so that the player's health is constantly draining, but every time you get a kill you get a whole bunch of health back. Now all the players are like, 'Holy crap, I have to play amazingly aggressive,' so you have to charge in before you basically bleed out. Another example, she'll go 'Shotgun Challenge,' where all shotguns do bonus damage and all other guns take a penalty." "There's a small tournament and a big tournament. The small tournament takes probably about an hour, and most people will be able to get through that. The big tournament...one of the things people have been asking for is for something that challenges them, and that's what the big tournament is. I think the last time I went through it, it took me six hours to get through a big tournament. You can't save your progress, you have to do it in one sitting, but you can stop, walk away from it and come back [Ed note: You just can't turn the system off]. It's really hardcore. To get through the big tournament, you'll have to get some friends who are very good and you'll all have to plan out what people are going to do and what weapons you're bringing." |

I don't know if it was you or Joystiq that failed us so completely before. But, let's have a look at Destructoid's version of the same quote, shall we?

Re: Borderlands
360 patch today. No idea if there's a PS3 version:
* Characters that have lost skill points will have them returned the next time they are loaded * Most instances involving character data loss when playing online should no longer occur * Item cards now display the intended five lines of text * Achievements should now unlock properly. Players should automatically receive achievements that did not unlock correctly * Fixed a progression issue in the Find Steele mission – characters affected by this issue should now be able to continue progressing * Some issues involving external data manipulation of the backpack and character level have been addressed * The auto-aim option should now fully disable auto-aim properly * Fixed a bug that kept challenges and achievements from unlocking for the rest of a session after visiting arenas * Fixed some formatting issues with the server list screen. * Fixed an issue causing servers to report the incorrect plot mission. * Proficiency progress to the next level should no longer be lost when leaving a multiplayer game as a client Lilith’s “Silent Resolve” skill now works as intended * Fixed a bug that allowed Mordecai to spawn multiple Bloodwings * Mordecai’s “Loaded” skill now increases mag capacity by 20% * Roland’s “Scattershot” skill has had its spread adjustment corrected, and damage now increases at +5 per level |
Re: Borderlands
Wait to get through a big tournament you have to have friends that can play for 6 straight hours online? That is not going to happen.
|
Re: Borderlands
It took that guy 6 hours, presumably by himself. While it's true more players mean stronger enemies, you also get team bonuses based on skills.
I'll let you know how long it takes my level 50 Siren with my buddy's level 50 Hunter ;) |
Re: Borderlands
It'll never happen, but I personally would like an option to adjust the opacity of the on-screen HUD (or an option to turn it on/off). It's pretty stark white as it is, and after my 6-hour marathon last weekend, I got some pretty severe image-retention on my plasma TV, which took 5 days to get back to normal. Being able to adjust this would help with that issue.
|
Re: Borderlands
Who in the world asked for a "6 hour marathon" tournament? Two or three is not bad with four being a max but 6 hours? That's like palying to 50 twice in horde with GOW2 back-to-back. I know some it's nothing but boy you better have some energy drinks besdide you.

Re: Borderlands
yay!!!...finally got my missing 45 ach points...
|
Re: Borderlands
I hope no achievements are tied to this marathon tournament. As someone who doesn't really do multiplayer, I've appreciated Borderlands being a great single-player experience as well, and I want to keep my 100% completion, thanks.

Re: Borderlands
I hope that stuff about the two extra skill points is true. My biggest gripe with the game is that it's impossible to max out your action skill and your character gets capped at a certain point. I have all four characters at level 50. There's really nothing left for me to do in the game except run around and look for things to shoot... without any significant reward.
I suppose every game comes to a point when there's nothing left to do... I just wish there were more since I enjoyed this one so much. |

Re: Borderlands
Well, I guess they pulled the trophies back off of the trophy list for now. The other day my percentage had went down to 85% percent and the upcoming trophies were added and now mine is showing 100% again and those trophies are gone. It seems like we had the first set of DLC trophies almost as soon as the game dropped because I remember looking around the map for that braaaaaaains mission with no luck in finding where it originated from. It wasn't until the first set of DLC was announced that the purpose of those particular trophies became clear.

Re: Borderlands
Maxed my character today and found the Christmas Story Easter Egg area on my second playthrough. Anyone that wants a Rider or just wants to check out the level can message me while I'm on. Grabbed a few extra guns if anyone wants one. More of a novelty than anything, but a cool Easter Egg. I stopped with that mission open so I can go back to it when I want to.
May start leveling another character, but for now I am starting to feel a bit of Borderlands burnout at 60+ hours on the clock. May take a break until the DLC hits. I still need to finish like 50 other games I own. |
Re: Borderlands
Well after playing countless hours yesterday I finished (maybe or maybe not) but I was left more confused than before. Bottom line I saaw the credits but I didn't have a clue or expect what happened. Being at Level37 I was just expecting another level and just get more later on. I didn't know this was the ending. I had my A## handed to me by the last Boss. I had to call for backup and a friend helped me finish the last battle.
He said i was a bit 'underpowered" for that mission but all I had left was it and a few in Zombieland. I really didn't know that was it. So I guess now I'm technically on my "2nd Play-thru" right? If so where are the other missions? Right now all I'm showing is three left in Zombieland and that's it. Also thanks again to aagstn for helping swap some weapons and giving me a few. I felt bad because I didn't have anything to give in return. I do have one favor, if anyone runs across a Sniper Volcano with damage at 280 or above let me know. I'm still using a Level 22 one at 222 Damage and x4 Fire but it's better than my Level 32 sniper 353 Damage x3 Fire. |

There are these giant sunflowers near middle of nowhere bounty board and a guy standing near them. You talk to him and he asks you to go into the compound where you killed those brothers nearby and turn off the water that is causing them to grow so big. Missed this completely on playthrough one as it never comes up unless you find the guy and it was tough to complete on playthrough 2 even at level 50. The compound has one really hard to get to turret and lots of soldiers. Also now that you have beat the game I recommend going back to visit the junkyard, but be prepared for a tough fight. I have an extra Yellow rarity Volcano gun you can have. Not sure how high level you need to be to use it though. It has 463 damage, X4 fire but it only has 3 bullets. Not as big of a deal if you use the magazine upgrade and double the ammo for the Hunter. |

I beat the game at level 38 on my first playthrough. Don't think you were really that underpowered. I died a couple of times fighting the final boss. Basically just aim for the eye and when those tentacles pop out try and hit them. However, you can only dodge so much so death will happen. Definitely easier with help.

I have another friend who just got the DLC Zombieland but is at Level 50. I told him I'd go thru with him. I'm actually looking forward to going some more but hopefully with a few others. If you can spare that Volcano I'd be more than gratefull. As the Hunter I've came across plenty of sniper rifles but usually several levels lower or non-elemental. The only thing saving me is using the Hunters Sniper Mod. I've found countless Assault Rifles though. I'll have to visit the "Junkyard" though and didn't know about the rust Commons mission either. If the soldiers are those armored types I ususally bombard them with the Fire Bloodwing followed by Acid Bouncing Betties with a dose of Shock or Fire guns. The Bloodwing helps by slowing and dazing them. |
