People bitch about the lack of power on and off with it but it has never affected me because 99% of the time I am having to walk up to the machine to put a BD in it anyway (the other 1% a game ) and you can power down within the menu without having to push the power button.

But seriously, If you have the money, go with both systems. They have great games on them and I never have to worry about whether one game is going on which system.

Twisted metal - I havn't heard about a new one, but some sweettooth action would rock. Likely though if it is released it will be ps3 only as I don't think they have ever released a twisted metal game multiplatform, but you never know. edit. NEvermind... twisted metal ps3 is coming http://ps3.ign.com/articles/850/850449p1.html

CaptainMarvel may be a casual gamer, but he has great taste...or at least similar to mine.
Little bits of misinformation on here: Castlevania SOTN is on both and at the same price point. We've really seen nothing other than speculation on a new Twisted Metal, but I thought TM: Head On was a good time on PS2, and TM2 is on PSN for $6. God of War isn't going anywhere.
I too would give the RPG edge to 360 (for now) in that it runs Fallout 3 a bit better and has Mass Effect. But, if you have any interest in more strategy based RPGs, Valkyria Chronicles is a must-play.

I find that if you play DVD's still, the 360 looks better on the 360 then the PS3.
But if Blu is your thing, the PS3 is a excellent player with the wireless built right in to take advantage of the BD Live.

One more question, I recently purchased my ps3 a month ago, but why are there not a lot of games for the ps3 running at 1080P resolution?

These consoles are not powerful enough to do what they want to do and run at 1080p. The developers would rather push the polygon count higher and have more sophisticated lighting at 720p than cut back on that stuff to get it at 1080p.

I'd love to see your HT setup if this is the case. PS3 is a terrific upconverter for DVDs.
Does the 360 even upconvert?

Re: Thinking of finally nabbing an Xbox 360 or PS3
I did a comparison. Playing Harry Potter OOP on both systems. Onkyo 607 and a samsung 72a650 tv. For whatever reason the 360 does not pixelate nearly as much. I do not want to come across as bashing, nor a fanboy and start a debate. Just that for whatever reason The image quality is just smoother on the 360 then the ps3.
Not sure if this makes a difference the 360 is connected via component directly to tv with sound optical to the receiver. My 360 is not a HDMI one and the tv does support 1080P via component (TV verifies this as well as 360 setting). And when the dvd comes on the tv adjusts to the typical resolution as it should for DVD.
The PS3 is connected via HDMI to the receiver. (For sound and video).

You might not be upscaling on the PS3. I'd imagine it's in the video settings, but it's been forever since I set mine up and I'm not at home to check.

...Additionally, the Xbox 360 is a progressive scan DVD player that will output a 480p signal. As of now, even when using HDMI out, the Xbox 360 cannot upscale movies to higher resolutions...
That's all I got.

I get the impression the PS3 is upscaling...It just makes the image looks unnatural. That is what I am suspecting. I tried playing with the upscaler on and off. and if i relall there was a 3rd option also. I just personally found, in my opinion, that the 360 looked the best.

Re: Thinking of finally nabbing an Xbox 360 or PS3
I think you are on to something Drexl. The PS3 gets passedthrough the receiver so i have a hunch there is a lot of manipulation going on as opposed to when my 360 is just plugged into the tv, it just looks cleaner and more natural. Regardless, I just made up my mind in my home setup that SD DVD = 360 and Blu = PS3! Everyone wins!

You do realize there's more ps3 support here because everyone with 360's are actually playing their systems right now...just something to think about...

See, I can make a pointless post that craps on one of the systems too
Unless someone can make a substantiated claim like above with oh, I don't know "proof" or at least some kind of reasoning that doesn't sound like drooling fanboy drivel.
The 360 and ps3 are both great systems for all the reasons that have been posted in this thread.

how about gaming experience? you know, that thing where you play games online against other people, download new content, like game levels and demos? if i'm trying to decide between playon/tversity and xbox live, one of these services does far more than the other two.

Re: Thinking of finally nabbing an Xbox 360 or PS3
Here is the thing though. If someone doesn't play online with their 360 like I didn't, then to use netflix on the 360 you are required to pay for xbox live which at it's cheapest is usually 40 for a year. So now someone has paid 40 bucks for xbox live when they don't play online games. Playon is 40 dollars and will play without any additional yearly charges. So after the first year you have just saved money from not having to buy a new year of live. If MS didn't make you be a live subscriber to use netflix then this argument would make perfect sense. And you can use playon on the 360, which means that you can buy it and do netflix the same as the 360 dash one does, and not spend the 40 dollars for the year of live. I mean, if you are already paying for live then great, don't do playon. If you are like me and don't already pay for it then playon is a much better option since you not only get netflix, but you get hulu too.
Look, I loved my 360, but with the red rings they cant' fix, the having to pay extra for online play, and pay extra for t he wireless the ps3 was a no brainer for me.
