Yeah, it's going to be super-hard, but at least it feels do-able on the lower difficulties. On the PC with their lack of analog controls, I struggled to get through the freaking tutorial! -eek-

Ooh, I didn't realize that one was only a week away. It seemed so far away last time I saw news on it.

I'm excited to see Shadow Complex since it's the last of the Summer Arcade promo. I'm ready to see if Serious Sam or Bubble Bobble are going to follow it up.

I'm so geeked for Shadow Complex that I read the Orson Scott Card novel that it's kind of based around to get some more background on it.

EDIT: Speaking of which: Orson Scott Card talks 'Shadow Complex' and the future of 'Empire'

Spoiler:
Beyond being an award-winning author, Orson Scott Card has some gaming cred on his resume. An avid old school gamer himself, Card has worked on a few notable game projects, including The Secret of Monkey Island, for which he penned the swordfighting insults. On August 19, Card returns to gaming by creating the world that surrounds Shadow Complex, which runs parallel to the events in Card's best-selling novel, Empire.

However, unlike his experience working on the poorly-received game Advent Rising -- which Card was brought into late to develop the game's story -- the author and Chair Entertainment collaborated from the beginning to bring the Empire book trilogy and Shadow Complex to life. "They do their thing and I do mine. Two very different arts end up working together to tell the same story," Card told Variety. Card says, he enjoys Shadow Complex's main character so much, he suspects readers will see Jason Flemming (voiced by Nolan North) appear in a future novel within the universe. Shadow Complex's story was written by Star Trek novelist Peter David.

Card also notes that he is confident he has "come up with something" to allow future games in the series to be different. "Nothing would be worse than if they play the second game is the same as the first," Card said. Apparently in Card's world, gamers love change.

(And I still say it's gonna need it's own thread.)

Yeah, it's hard, but do-able, and when I make a mistake it's always my fault and not the game's which minimizes frustration. Having spent an hour or two with it, Trials is definitely my next Geometry Wars/Pacman: CE. I can see the challenges providing hours of "fun" when I get tired of the tracks themselves. Rings of Flames is so addictive.

I don't like that you can only get tracks from people on your friends list though. I know there are going to be some masters out there with tracks, and I hope they're made available to all eventually. Or maybe I'm not seeing something that allows me to download other's tracks.

That might be underplaying things a bit. Splosion Man really makes you feel that mistakes are your fault alone -- this game you're still a hostage to their floaty physics which is sometimes hard to predict. Sometimes you do a perfect backflip and other times you'll knock your rider's head off on the ramp. Still, getting a clean run down the track is truly a thrilling experience.

Yeah, I can see this game becoming seriously addicting since it's so easy to just fire up and play a couple of levels and then to replay and replay them until you get the gold medal. It should have a lot of longevity. It's not the sort of game that can be beaten in the time it takes to order a pizza (cough, cough).

FYI from Twisted Pixel (via Twitter) about the 'Splosion Man avatar rewards....

To all who've been asking, just got word: thru no fault of our own, Splosion Man Avatar update has been delayed. Thanks for your patience!

I see your point, but I think the floatiness of the game is consistent, so when I tumble I feel like it's because I leaned over the handlebars for a second too long, or hit the gas too heavy. The bounciness of the more advanced bikes is really tough to get a grip on though. They remind me a lot of the F1 cars in Burnout that I could never get a handle on.

Trials is awesome. I just spent most of the late afternoon and evening playing it. Lots more bells and whistles than the PC version, and a much better difficulty ramp-up. The PC version was super tricky almost right off the bat. The XBLA version eases you in a little better. A couple of the achievements are pretty clever, too. I figured out one which had a fairly cryptic description, and it was really satisfying. There's another vague one that I didn't get yet but I think I know how to get it.

I spent like 20-30 minutes trying to get the one on the Groundhog level where you complete the course flawlessly without ever changing position. It took a while, but I finally did it. No Achievement popped though. I went back and saw I was on Groundhog Begins, not Groundhog Returns!

Oh, and apparently there's a new episode included in DooM II:

A whole new episode will be included, along with all of Doom 2's original content. Four-player split-screen multiplayer will be available in addition to online play.
