I have page 14 of the track list on a 30-minute auto-refresh on my secondary monitor. As soon as I see it update, I'll be posting here with the news and updating my spreadsheet to find the additions.

Another megaton bomb for DLC this week! I love it when we get major hits from current RB artists AND from artists new to RB.

There's at least five buyers for me...

I will wait until Friday afternoon, then I'm going nuts on a spending spree. I have a party to take the setup to that night and there's way too much awesome in the last few weeks to not get.

Then I dread an update on 9/1 when they start giving away the Beatles set :(

Looks like we might be getting another Band exclusive game and Rock Band 3 next year: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175697

We're still waiting on The Beatles Rock Band, but it looks like Harmonix is already hard at work on their next title. According to MTV Games vice president Scott Guthrie, the development team is working on what is 'effectively the next game.'

Asked whether Harmonix will release another artist game or Rock Band 3 in 2010, Guthrie told the Market for Computer and Video Games, "We're exploring both - and possibly will do both. The Harmonix development team are working on what is effectively the next game, or 'Rock Band 3.'

"We aren't standing still - we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft. We're working with them to pull some things together."

"So it's a pretty exciting time for the future of our music game business."

The word 'effectively' seems important here, because it suggests that we're in for another spinoff. At this point though, all we can do is speculate.

In the meantime, The Beatles Rock Band release date is getting ever closer. Look for it on September 9.

I really think that U2 is just about all Harmonix could consider doing at this point as a follow-up to The Beatles that anyone would care about.

It's unclear from that quote whether they're talking about another Beatles style game, or more of a track pack like AC/DC. I know there's that Pearl Jam Live project due next year, and I assumed it would be more of a track pack. I wonder if they're referring to that or something else?

Isn't that whole Pearl Jam project still in the wings too?

Zeppelin for sure, but considering Page's stance on masters I doubt that'll ever happen.

Elvis would be huge, but I don't think the audience is there for it. Same for the Rolling Stones. Both would be awesome track packs but probably couldn't carry their own game.

Yeah, the Holy Grail of Zeppelin seems to be the only project that could compare to Beatles: RB in my opinion. Otherwise just go with a track pack so as not to dilute the brand.

Yep, making GH less and less relevant.

Would I rather buy a $60.00 disc to get these songs OR a 2.00 download? Hmmm?

I'm a big fan of RB delivering many of the big songs and artists from GH5 via DLC. Makes me feel better about skipping GH5.

Elvis would be better suited for a Singstar game at this point, to be honest. The Stones maybe, but so many of their songs are already in previous games.

Another awesome week! For you old farts like me, you might remember that there were two videos/singles for Billy Idol's "Mony Mony". I hope we get this version:

I think the less discs the better. Otherwise we are getting into the same problem GH has now.

The Beatles are top of the list deserving of their own game. They have set music history, and the depth of their music is such that it demands they be unique.

Any other band or artist I have doubts about. Led Zeppelin would certainly qualify. But their signature song would be boring as hell to play on RB. Especially for the drummer.

The Stones, not so sure. Their modern stuff is not worthy so it would be limited to their 'best' stuff (60s-early 80s).

I mean is it worth the $60 just to be able to play on a neat stage or venue since the songs should import into RB?

I think most people would overlook it for the last few minutes of the song...and just about every other song in their catalog. ;)

Unbelievable. I think I might have to buy every single one of those songs.

Fleetwood Mac has so many better songs than "World Turning" but I'll take it... glad to see Tom Petty too.

I'm okay with track packs from here on out. Make Rock Band 3 the Burnout Paradise of rhythm games, whereas it's always upgradeable, and then just release track packs on disc and updates via DLC.

And I know music fans would care about Zeppelin, but would it have enough crossover appeal to gamers and kids to make it worth it? Would it even outsell GH: Metallica?

devilshalo 08-21-09 12:49 PM

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

Actually.. maybe with the recent death of the King of Pop... it could be MJ:RB or The Jackson's: Rock Band? I think most of his/their work is playable as a band with only a few slow songs that are purely vocals like She's Outta My Life.
