Cool. This gives me a little faith in the gaming public. ;)

I totally give a shit. I had this exact conversation with my wife when the promotion started. (BTW, I will guarantee you that she didn't give a shit.)

I'd love to know the specifics of the deal. How much was paid and to who to do the promotion. Ultimately you figure it's not costing any of them anything for the free tracks. Everything I picked up, I wasn't going to buy anyway.

I just went on a redeeming spree. Got the 3 Green Day, 6 from the Classic Rock Track Pack I hadn't got yet, and Pat Benatar's other song.

Feels good :D

Can I get the Mayhem stuff off of there? No.

There's the incentive.

Also, the fact that the caps here are still elusive as fuck.

I hope these release day additions keep up. The corner store down the street got the caps last week and are running 2/$2.22. And I know for something that I really want, I won't be able to wait.

I know you're just messing, but I want it and a ton of other metalheads out in the world. I was thrown aback on Thursday when they announced Hammer Smashed Face was coming! I'm not even a Cannibal Corpse fan, but metal songs are going to get me moving. I'm going to be busting out the stage kit, putting my leg up on the coffee table, jumping off the couch, etc.

Yeah, they were on the first list before the caps started showing up. No word on them yet, though. Hopefully soon.

And here I was pulling for the "Legend of Billie Jean" pack with "Rebel Yell" and "Invicible". Dammit!

There seems to be a very vocal minority that's into the genre. It's nice to see the game supporting genres that aren't necessarily mainstream. Even though this particular music isn't my bag, it means that other weird genres may see support in the future, which I think is a good thing.

I don't think it is quite the minority you think it is. Checking the %'s over at dlcquickplay for some of the more extreme Metal released previously, they are mostly all above 20-30% range. Not to mention there are plenty of people that just want extremely difficult songs, regardless of genre.

I'd be curious to see where they rank on dlcstats.com (apparently they use the leaderboards as a rough estimate of sales), but that site is blocked at my work. Maybe I'm completely wrong on this one.

I guess my point was that fans of growly metal (I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to metal subgenres) are some of the most vocal fans, but I can't imagine that Whitechapel (for example) has the same size fan base as most of the classic rock or pop bands that are in the Rock Band "best sellers" category on the Live Marketplace. If you're one of those fans, please take it as a compliment - you are passionate about your music. ;)

I think the Green Day ones are up so fast because they're part of the video half of the promotion

I'm sure the numbers pale in comparison to classic rock tracks, but they probably are a lot higher than you expect. Like I said, people don't need to be a "fan" of the music in order to want to play it. Regardless, I've always been for Harmonix opening up to as many different genres as possible, no matter how niche. I've bought so many songs that I'm not a fan (putting it lightly) of the genre or even the band, simply because they are fun.

Did you get the REO + Styx song? Because I found that one unlistenable.

Did I miss a post or something, but I JUST noticed the Pearl Jam 3 pack is available for download from the marketplace. State of Love & Trust, Alive and Brother...
