Yeah, 'cause God of War sucks...?

It's not like GoW was all that original itself.

Well, the last game where the demo played like a GOW clone, people bought the game and would up with a RTS game instead. So who knows what this will be.

No, but this sure does. Not a single original idea. They just completely copy God of War and throw on a fresh coat of paint, bastardizing Dante's Inferno in the process with as much gratuity as possible.

It's enough to make you want to stage a protest.

I wish that would have been a GoW clone.

I also have a Nyko frontman, and it's a nice guitar. My only problems with it are that it takes 3 batteries and it's a bit off balance. Newegg has it for $14.99.
Thanks for the advice.

Today's Target ad includes band bundles of both GHWT and RB2 for $88, but apparently only the 360 version is included for the former. I don't know if I want a RB guitar. My wife doesn't want me to get drums at all, but I might bite on World Tour if I could get the PS3 version for $88. No Amazon price match.

Amazon is having a Gold Box PS3 day on Tuesday, so maybe something will show up at a good price.

That's good news. I only downloaded free videos anyway.

Let's be fair. Not everything was curbed from God of War. The punish/absolve mechanic comes from Bioshock!

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Rock Band guitars are a love it/hate it proposition. There really is no middle ground, you either like the "click" or you don't. I like the feedback of the click myself and prefer GH guitars.

Drums are really fun, and I'd stick with RB for those.

I like the click, but I don't like the raised/smaller frets more. So I prefer RB.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Eh. Maybe I'll replace both GH3 and RB2 -- the former with guitar and latter as bundle. I'm in no hurry, but would hate to miss a ridiculous deal.

After playing this and the demo for GoW3 recently, I have to say that I enjoyed both equally. Actually, DI's power upgrade system seems more interesting than GoW's.

Also, I recently gave the Bayonetta demo a spin. Reminds me a great deal of a glitzier Devil May Cry 3 with the blend of rapid-fire gun work and combat. It could be fun, if it doesn't lose its novelty.

Liked the demo, but nothing new here and apparently there will be some boobs in this game. When needed to advance the story I'm sure.

You know, when I read this, I was expecting a GoW clone like Conan or Wolverine, but this game is a carbon copy. EVERYTHING is stolen from GOW, even little trivial things like the combo counter with advancing adjectives as the number goes higher. Really, I'm a little surprised that a huge company like EA would be on board something this so obviously derivative. Sure, lots of games borrow liberally from previous titles, but this would probably meet the definition of theft of intellectual property. It is really shameless.

Though to be fair, that big cut scene was stolen from Gladiator, so congrats on stretching a bit.

RB2 band bundle for $88 you say? Hm........ still haven't upgraded from RB1 yet.

Will this get even cheaper? I'm in no hurry to play it...

It's in the Target ad, but instore only. I'm not sure if there are inventory issues and if rainchecks are allowed, etc. Sale also includes DJ Hero and that Tony Hawk game with the skateboard.

I settled on GH5 with guitar on sale at Amazon right now for $60. Will get some RB software later.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

New ps3 owner here...

Yesterday, my mother told me that her neighbor (a ps3 owner) said that playing DVD's on the ps3 will mess it up, or lead it to a shorter lifespan. Is this true? I know it is a blu-ray player, and plays blu-ray games. I also know that blu-ray players are backwards compatible...but will playing regular dvd's ruin the blu-ray technology? I'm not sure what to think...

Also, is the playstation network free? I've had a Wii for a few years, meaning most online stuff has been limited, so I'm not sure how to approach it all.

Besides the obvious stuff, what can ya'll tell me about the ps3 that I need to know to get the most out of it.

Short answer: yes PSN is free. Sign up today. Feel free to add me as a friend.

Playing DVD's won't specifically hurt your player, but as with all optical drives issues can arise. Although failure rate is much less than the 360.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Ugh. I was going to update to the new firmware v3.15, but after reading some of the comments on the official PS blog (from users saying their BD drive doesn't work after the update, or Uncharted freezes for them after the update) I'm going to hold off on updating again.

Why is Sony taking so long to put out a new firmware revision that works for everyone?

Look at it like a pair of shoes: the more wear and tear you put in, the sooner you may have to find a replacement. Does playing DVDs ruin the Blu-ray tech? Absolutely not, but there's always the possibility of killing the laser with general overuse. That's just mechanics and technology for you, and a good enough reason to invest in a standalone DVD player. However, laser malfunctions have been very slim so far in the PS3's lifespan.

Just to confirm...

You are still logged off of the internet/PSN when playing blu-ray movies, correct?

I put Dante's Inferno to download last Saturday and then started watching the Public Enemies blu-ray, and 2 hours later it was still 1%...

Correct. Nothing will download while you are watching a movie.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Just got a PS3 last week myself. If i got it hooked up to a Non-HDTV it's pointless to try watching a Bluray movie on it since it will still come out in standard definition correct?
