Have you tried different kinds of discs? BD movies, PS3 games, DVD movies, audio CDs?

Sounds like a somewhat common problem, but Google doesn't help me much in finding a solution (other than calling Sony to have it repaired).

It's a couple years old, 40gb, out of warranty of course.

Help?

Thanks. :)

What version of the firmware are you running? Some people had that problem with version 4.0 (which was a forced update), and it was supposed to be resolved with version 4.1 (which wasn't forced)... So have you tried updating the firmware?

Yep, it doesn't read any of them.

3.01 is what's on it now, when I go to system update is says the latest software is already running, no need to update...how do I manually update it to .1?

You're up to date. Don't know what I was thinking when I typed 4.1. 3.01 is the lastest

I don't have a calculator handy, but looks like about 300% faster.

You need a calculator. 3x = 200% faster ;)

Sorry about the snarkiness. It is fairly big, though your original point still stands about how slow a 1.2 Mbps down/.2 up is. I was just expecting you to pull out better numbers than that if you wanted to compare... :)

does the little disc-loading icon keep showing in the upper right corner when you put a disc in? I had this almost a year ago, and it was dead. Couldn't read any discs. Luckily, I had bought at Costco so I was covered. You can look around other more ps3-specific sites, I seem to remember reading you might be able to fix it yourself or get it fixed for less than the $150 Sony will quote you. Depending on how adventurous you are.

Just turned on PS3 to play Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time. Game boots up incredibly slow after being fine for the last week. Hope the almost 2 year old PS3 isn't about to die.

I've been having some problems since upgrading to 3.01 for the Netflix disc. Lego Rock Band crashed on me the other day and then when I tried to boot it up today to play, it took a really long time to find my game save. Maybe it's time to backup all my stuff, just in case.

anyone feel like helping figure out this damn DNS error I keep getting? 80710102?

my PS3 is recognizing my router and signal strength is 100%. It obtains the IP address just fine, but fails at the Internet Connection, with the DNS error.

My PS3 started acting up after 3.01 but would still play SD and would play BD for about 10 minutes. Now it's not playing anything. :(

I'm really looking hard at the slim now instead of the spendy repair.

I'm terrified to update to 3.01.

I have a 40GB PS3... anyone have any Blu-ray playback problems with 3.01 that has the same model as I?

Note: Mine is one of the first-gen 60GB that seem to have a high rate of this problem.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Just an update to my issue yesterday. R+C: Crack in Time disc loaded after almost five minutes of black screen from after selecting the game from the PS3 menu. Once it loaded everything played fine, but with slightly longer than normal load times.

I'm hoping the next time I turn it on everything is quick again. Not a huge inconvenience but it's a little frustrating taking so long to get into the game.

As a test yesterday I threw in Resistance 2 and that booted up with just a slightly longer than normal wait.

I was forced to do the 3.01 update to play Lego Rock Band and now I am getting disconnection errors constantly. Awesome update Sony.

3.01 has given me no issues at all on my 40GB PS3 FWIW.

My original 60GB has been purring like a kitten. It's actually the noisy fan. But I prefer kittens.

It seems odd how wildly different the machines react to this update. What in the world did Sony do with the innards on these things to make them so unpredictable. I guess we should just be grateful that failure on the launch units was relatively infrequent.

I'm still going strong on my launch unit (knocks on junk)
