Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I've kept it horizontal on a hard table right next to the television. I played a DVD on it tonight just to be sure and nothing out of the ordinary happened but i'm pretty scared to load GTA4 back up again even though it's a new console. I did some research and it seems that GTA4 has had some issues before with the PS3 due to freezing and lockup but i never experienced either one of those just a bunch of scratches and some noises inside the system while the game loads up.

Well the game is useless if you don't put it in your PS3 so I say get over your fear and play. Possibly a bearing in the drive was bad and it was out of balance or something, who knows. Anyhow your problem is not widespread so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Wow, Hakuna Matata and Aquanaut's Holiday have already shipped out. I didn't expect to see them go out that quickly.

Same here, considering they were out of stock for a while (according to CAG).

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Is anyone using this Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard? Best Buy has it on sale next week for $60 and I was thinking about picking it up.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I don't have that one but I do have a Logitech BT keyboard I use w/ the PS3 (perhaps an older model of that one). Works fine when you need it. Frankly I don't do as much browsing as I thought I might so I don't use it that frequently. It was VERY useful though when loading a bunch of CDs/MP3s on the PS3 though (when the auto detect/name thing didn't work).

I have the USB version of that keyboard....just uses a USB dongle. Seems to work fine....I don't really use it much though. The touchpad is ok at best.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Is anyone else keeping up with the Xi thing in Playstation Home? I had a 3 hours session the other night and caught up on everything but the Stapler Challenge version of the mini games. I didn't like those much at all and have no interest in playing harder versions.

The Stapler stuff is pretty ridiculous anyway. The main quest is fun for the most part and can be played through on your own. The Stapler stuff is nearly impossible for me without just jumping straight to the walkthrough for an answer.

I like the mix of old school adventure type puzzles and the minigames. Some of the minigames like the aquarium, old school text adventure and circuit board puzzle were really fun, but the build a robot crane game sucked big time on the last two levels.

Anyway I'm still finding it fun overall and it is a lot of stuff to do for free. Maybe the only reason I have found to even bother with Home. So far the only freebie is an Xi tshirt, but hopefully we get a few more goodies before it is over.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but it looks like Logitech came up with a solution for Harmony users. $60 though...

Logitech Harmony Adapter for Playstation 3

Damn expensive, but will it allow you to power on the system?

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

It claims so.

Wish you could control all your movies, music, games and entertainment gear—including your PLAYSTATION 3—with one remote? Wish granted. Add one-touch PS3 control to any Harmony remote with the new Logitech Harmony Adapter for PLAYSTATION 3. Now your entire entertainment system and every PS3 command is at your fingertips. Want to watch a DVD or Blu-ray Disc movie? Play a game? Turn the console on or off? Easy. Just press one button on the remote to experience instant entertainment gratification.
Since it's bluetooth and not a USB dongle, it seems to have the same capabillities the controller has.

$60 is way too much and Sony should subsidize this

$60 is nothing compared to the overpriced Harmony remotes themselves.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Being that this is nothing more than an IR->BT converter, it's way too much. You need a Harmony to even use it.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

IIRC the only other IR -> BT converter was about $50.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

The converter may be too expensive (but I'll probably end up getting it anyway) but I paid full retail for each of my Harmony remotes, and they were well worth the price.

Are you kidding me? $40 for a literal all in one remote? Even my 880 was only $90, and for the ease of use and zero frustration, that seems like a drop in the bucket to me.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Harmony remotes are kinda like Tivo. It's a bit tough to swallow the initial price, but once you do it's hard to go back to a world without 'em.

Not sure which one you are talking about, but IR2BT had one for $50, then discontinued it and released an "improved/enhanced" version for $150.

The Logitech one should be IR2BT a run for their money.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

This is the "$50" one. PS3IRX1.

It was $35 + shipping($7), but if you follow the link it as dropped to $20. I have it and highly recommend it. It was a bit high at $42 shipped, but I think it's worth it for $20. It is very elegant. Of course, it doesn't do power on/off commands.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

So less than a year after owning a PS3, it seems that my controller can't hold a charge for more than 6 hours - this includes the time it's "on" as a remote while I'm watching blu-ray movies. That doesn't seem right.
