I thought this "rumor" had already been floating around for a long time since Kotick spilled the beans at some press conference?

[sarcasm]Those Michael Anthony 8th notes will sure be fun to play[/sarcasm]

Otherwise, they are a great band to base a game around.

Not a bad choice, although the band was keyboard heavy in the mid-80s. The only problem with this choice is that we have to wait another year to see if they'll make a Guitar Hero:Led Zeppelin or Guitar Hero:U2 edition next.

Interesting. But how long before the rhythm music genre implodes on itself with all these releases.

Awww, shucks. Doesn't surprise me that people wouldn't look in the general thread for new rumors, though. I was torn when I posted it whether or not to create a new thread anyway.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"

Yeah I don't look into Guitar Hero threads.

This is a much, much better choice than Metallica or Aerosmith. I have to say, I am waiting for the brand that will finally add keyboards.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"

I have no problem with the continuation of these releases. I truly enjoy the GH franchise as a whole, and so I welcome them.

However, what I do not enjoy is that there is no way to export songs from the other disc-based games onto the World Tour platform. I, for one, do not want to buy GH: Metallica, but would like the option of getting two or three songs from it.

As much as I love GH, and do not enjoy RB, I wish Activision would take a cue, and allow content from each disc to be transferred. I would be willing to pay a small fee to do so, and I'm willing to be there are many other consumers who would feel the same way.

I believe Activision had said they want to move to a subscription based model.

Access to everything for a monthly fee.

Im annoyed with the frequent releases, no continuity, and the band specific discs. But Id rather pay 49.00 for 50 or so songs on disc than 2.00 (Wii price)a pop for them on DLC.

Van Halen is a nice grab but Im not a fanatic. I can think of a handful of songs that would be fun to play and not a chore. And like the Aerosmith title, its just going to get tedious playing thru all the VH songs unless you are a superfan. There just is not enough variety in the VH catalog of songs for me. What they add in as guest songs will make or break the disc. Older VH, and early Sammy stuff is where I like VH most.

Id much rather see a GH:Iron Maiden before VH. Perhaps include some of the British metal legends on the disc (Sabbath, Ozzy, JP, Saxon, Motorhead, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, early Def Leppard). Or perhaps a GH:British Masters of Metal.

I have to do it. I didn't want to, but I feel I have to now. How can Activision continue this path when there's this: http://www.pwnordie.com/blog/posts/14300

People keep buying 'em.

I guess the question is how long they will continue to buy them. You'd think that the market would be flooded at some point, but apparently we haven't gotten there yet.

I suppose this is good news for Van Halen fans, but I'm not one, so I don't have a whole lot to add to this discussion.

Because GH labeled artists continue to outsell RB regardless of all that. GH branding is universal now. RB not so much.

Now the Beatles title may throw GH a curve but with the continued releases of GH titles getting to market RB:Beatles is going to get lost in the mix eventually regardless of how good it is.

GH5, GHWT2, GH:GH, GH(insert band here), DJHero, Band Hero, Sing Hero ... on and on.

Activision is apparently hoping to flood the market and RB will get washed away.

If by market you mean shelf space, sure. I think, though, that Activision is showing they don't know WHO their market is.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"

I don't see how Rock Band having the majority of their songs come from DLC means Activision needs to follow the same path.

Guitar Hero seems to be doing pretty well having standalone disc based solutions just as Rock Band is having DLC based content. I don't see how it means Activision doesn't know who their audience is; in fact, their content may very well be as a result of their audience, thinking that more casual folks are used to buying content off a shelf rather then be connected online and downloading songs.

Maybe so, maybe no. But I don't see how fans of the GH franchise can complain about the disc swapping and continue to support the trend.

That is how you defeat your business competition. Squeeze them out.

Activision wants everyone to be their market apparently.

Isn't working on everyone. In fact, I wasn't alone here (in the general thread) last week when I said if their new segmentation was true I was out on the franchise entirely. Maybe we don't count for much what with being informed game purchasers, but it's something.

Also it doesn't matter how many titles you put around it, The Beatles will sell more and garner more attention from the general public. I imagine there will be a significant ad campaign to bring more attention to it.

Aerosmith + Metallica + Van Halen + DJ Hero + Sing Hero + GH5 + Band Hero + all the DS titles

I may not like it but what other choice is Activision giving us right now?

I would hope they are working on a subscription based thing, where all their titles link back to some service they control and you can download to your hearts content your favorite content.

That way they own the whole chain, instead of having to rely on MS, Sony, or Nintendo to package and distribute DLC.
